401k plan has a 50% matching up to 6% and is vested after a year or two.

The 401k is like any other company. Nothing exceptionally good or bad about it.

If you leave HP prior to three years of tenure, all of HP's matching contributions to your 401(k) plan are forfeit, and HP will confiscate those matching contributions from your 401(k) account without notice. At all other Silicon Valley companies where I have worked, the company contributions to my 401(k) plan have vested immediately. Compared to these other companies, HP appears to be parsimonious.

Pretty standard plan. Match up to 5%. Many companies do better. Some don't match at all so there's that....
