The benefits are great. The health care plans are some of the best you'll ever find. The company matches 4% for your 401k each month and 10% each quarter which makes for great retirement plan growth. I had 30 days of PTO time after 6 years (started at 18 days). The benefits start the day you start, no waiting period.

The Health Ins options were great. The education allowance is helpful, but does tie you unto the company for a few years, understandably. The sick day policy was counter-productive in that you got a free lunch if you went a year without a sick day. Personally, I'd rather have the personal time then a free lunch!

First year you get 18 paid days off ( it's for vacation, personal, and sick days). It's done by # of hours so you can take a half day. They also do flextime. If you have a doctor appt, you can put in extra time on another, or more than one, day in that week and not even have to use you PTO.

Vanguard's retirement plan is amazing, medical/dental/vision are very good and inexpensive for employees and the company very focused on health and wellness. The PA campus has several nice gyms with personal trainers and all types of classes- from spinning to yoga to bootcamp and more. They also have fun wellness challenges and offer perks such as discounted movie tickets, the ability to have your car serviced during the day (they have a vendor that picks your car up and brings it back for you), and dry cleaning.

Great 401k match, love the amount of PTO and the health plan is very affordable.

The best thing is the pension plan (though it takes 7 years before you're fully vested). The worst thing is you don't get any of the nice fringe benefits you can get from other companies. There will be no KISS concerts (yeah… I've got that before), no fancy dinners with pricey bottles of wine, no christmas bonus, not even a happy hour where the boss puts it on the company tab… You will get ice cream though. Of course, you have to get a ticket from your manager to make sure you only get one serving. They also give out free movie tickets (Matinee Only) occasionally.

Decent 401k with match and profit sharing. Health care used to be outstanding, but now it's just good. Time off is competitive, with option to buy additional time. Pay is low.

Affordable insurance (health, life, dental, eye), GREAT coverage. A 401k package inclusive of company match. Lots of paid time off!

This is where Vanguard tries to make up for the lower base pay. The benefits are exceptional, from the 401(k) match to the work-life balance (relative to the industry, this is top notch within most departments). This dynamic of lower base pay and higher benefits is great for a worker in the right stage of his or her career- generally above 30 with a family- but can be a source of frustration for younger, more ambitious workers who don't really use the health benefits or have a family to attend to, etc. Salary increases tend to be predicated more on tenure than contribution, and this is why working here is very much like investing here- a very long-term deal.

The cost is low for a family.
