Inside Sales Representative at ADP

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Allentown, PA May 2009 – Reviewed Jun 14, 2013 New

Interview Details – I applied online after a friend referred me. There was an IQ test. The first interview was a with a recruiter. I interviewed in person with 3 separate departments and came back for 2 additional interviews with 2 of the departments. My final interview was over the phone and about a week later I was offered the position.

Interview Question – The questions seemed pretty normal, but the process of interviewing with so many departments and having them decide where they thought I would fit best was new to me and I never experienced that type of process anywhere else.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There wasn't much opportunity to negotiate.

Client Service Representative at ADP

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Jun 2013 – Reviewed Jun 11, 2013 New

Interview Details – I started by applying for this job on a internet job board.

Got a call from a recruiter for a pre-screen phone interview. It was about 20 minutes long where he asked a few questions about my resume and then details about the position. I then had to set up an interview for the face-to-face interview.

Went in for face-to-face interview with 2 managers. Very friendly people. They asked questions about my resume, behavioral questions, basic structural questions like where do I see myself in 5 years, and then finished up with telling me about the work environment and if I had any problems with it. Interview was about 30-40 minutes.

Then got an email to set up an interview with the VP just asking me questions about my resume again. He focused more on the conversations I had from the previous interview. Asked me if the managers walked me through aspects of the job. Interview was quick, 15 minutes tops.

Interview Question – Walk me through what you know about the job.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Didn't negotiate.

SBS District Manager ( Sales Position - Small Business to Business Sales) at ADP

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Buena Park, CA May 2013 – Reviewed Jun 5, 2013 New

Interview Details – Will number the step application process:

1. APPLY ONLINE:
Applied online for their sales position. Give yourself about 40-60 minutes to complete in a quiet room.
2. QUICK PHONE CALL:
Got a phone call back about 2 days later to schedule a phone interview. In this moment the recruiter herself asked some quick questions to get a "feel for you" nothing intense just: how are you, is sales something you see yourself doing, how did you hear about us, etc. More of a conversational 5 minute phone call. She will say "oh I liked your resume blah blah, so you worked here and there and lala". If you left out things on your resume she will ask you.

3. PHONE INTERVIEW:
A 40 minute phone interview. The recruiter had very basic questions I'm assuming if would have taken less time, but since I talk so much I kept her on with me for long. Such as:
- what motivates you?
-why ADP?
-what about your skills qualify you to work here?
-if you had an uncapped commission how much would you want to make?
- where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Also they will ask you about where you worked before and what you did, so make sure you emphasize things that will correlate to this job (i.e. "oh I was in commission only sales, we had had aggressive quotas, I've always been in the upper 10% ranks of sales, cold calling, etc.)

4. IN-PERSON INTERVIEW W/ VP SALES MANAGER:
The interview here obviously is where you really get grilled. The person will ask you again:
- why ADP?
- *tell me about you.
- what motivates you?
- where do you see yourself in 5 years?
- is ADP sales something you would want to do?

*Tell me about you?--If you get asked this question, it's your time to shine. Talk about your best skills, achievements, if you've been in sales highlight your rank, management, talk about yourself as much as possible. You're technically doing a sales pitch about yourself. You are applying to a sales position and hence I'm sure the manager is gauging you to see HOW YOU sell yourself.

5. RIDE ALONG: If you nail the in-person interview your recruiter will email you within a day letting you know that you have been chosen to do a "ride along" with another sales associate. Pay attention, turn off your phone, and ask questions. In this step you're pretty much watching what you'll be doing if you get hired. So if you like what you see this is it.
You do a mock sales pitch upon returning from your ride along. By the way the ride along will take about 4-6 hours so be prepared to be on the road for a while. Wear comfortable shoes.
Upon returning you will be given paperwork to overview the products sold, then you will be granted 15 minutes to quickly review the material. You will then be led into an office with 1-2 managers to do a mock sales pitch to them based on a scenario handout.
This is done to see how quickly you learned on the ride along, how well you read the services material. Nothing to panic about though you will not be perfect because you're obviously new. If you've been in sales you know that you must analyze the customer and properly recommend a product, then close him out. DONE.

6. JOB OFFER: If you pass the mock sales pitch you will be offered the job on the spot. If you get a hand shake and no offer; well you know you're out.

Job description:
- get own area zip code to manage/prospect
- door knocking is an option, but not necessary. If you're hungry for sales then you know better to door knock every now and then
- offer HR, payroll services to small business customers (under 50 employees)
- get a Chase bank assigned to you to visit with your personal banker to touch bases on potential clients
- on the road 80% of the time in your assigned territory. You won't be driving 50 miles one way and 60 another on a given day- no no.
- if you sell to a company in your territory who is out of your scope of work (medium business 50> employees) then you can refer it to the major accounts representative and you will get commission of that sale
- tracked weekly/monthly/fiscal
- goal is to get to President's club. President's club is the sales staff all over the country that hit a certain sales goal and get rewarded by going to nice travel spots. They mentioned Italy was last year, this year is Maui and Atlantis.

During the interview in person and ride along they make it a big deal; TURN OFF YOUR PHONE.
Good luck.

Sales Associate at ADP

Accepted Offer – Reviewed May 20, 2013

Interview Details – Was initially contacted by an ADP affiliated recruiter after applying on the company's website. We set up a phone interview which was really just her going over surface level things about the opportunity. An interview was then set face to face with the recruiter. Very laid back interview with the recruiter, "tell me about your workday", "what motivates you". Just say you want to make money and you have strong work ethic and your golden. If everything goes well with the face to face with the recruiter they will move you on to a one on one with a sales manager.

This interview is pretty quick again you will get the same type of questions as the recruiter asked you. Couple of additional questions I was asked "what do your parents do?" "how come you aren't in the same field?" What they are looking for there is that you are truly passionate about sales and controlling your salary.

Next up was a field ride with a rep. Only advice here is to not chicken out when its your turn to prospect. Fake it til you make it.

Last was a panel interview composed of Regional VP and sales managers.Unlike some other companies a successful field ride does not mean that you have the job wrapped up. This is the make or break stage. Expect to be there for at least 2 hours and have every question thrown at you. Though none are difficult you have to be confident and concise. "Why you?, "Why sales?, "What do you know about this company?, "How would your friends describe you?, "adversity", etc.

Once you pass the round robin of questions you will be asked to do a role play. You will be given 15 minutes to prepare an ADP sales pitch to a prospect. You are given information about ADP different platforms and it is your job to align the prospect with the correct one. Obviously they do not expect you to know everything verbatim, but they are looking for certain things; 6 steps of a sales call, confidence, ask lot's of questions, 2nd and 3rd attempts to close after they tell you no (you will not close them). If you pass and you are a fit they will give you an offer there.

Interview Question – Role Play ADP's services   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No Negotiation, take or leave
