Manager In Training (MIT) at Abercrombie & Fitch

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Los Angeles, CA Apr 2012 – Reviewed May 26, 2012

Interview Details – I got the interview through my school's On-Campus Recruiting system. The recruiter was friendly and very casual/informal to start off. Eventually, the interview got a bit more serious and she asked about 10-15 situational questions. That was the toughest part of the interview. Besides those questions, it was pretty basic and straight forward. The next week I got an email saying that I could interview with a hiring manager. The hiring manager's "interview" is very laid-back. It's more of a meet-and-greet (they called it that themselves.) This one took no more than 10 minutes while the first interview was closer to an hour.

Interview Question – Talk about a time that you had to make a decision that was unpopular and how you handled it.   Answer Question

Manager In Training (MIT) at Abercrombie & Fitch

Declined Offer – Interviewed in New Albany, OH Feb 2012 – Reviewed May 9, 2012

Interview Details – 10-15 rather easy questions that you can find on this site. After the interview with the DM of the campus stores I was told it would take a couple weeks to decide on which candidates he would consider. I was also told that there would be a letter sent to your house whether you got the job or not. I worked in a campus store for approximately 4 years and had a great experience. My managers were all nice along with my general managers. The atmosphere is just what you would expect at Abercrombie & Fitch's home office. Easy on the eyes and not so much on the ears with the same hour playlist playing over and over and over until it changes which happens 4 times a year but you learn to tone out the music after a few months.

Interview Question – Describe a time when you had to meet multiple deadlines. How did you handle it? What was the result?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – a better opportunity came up

No Offer – Interviewed in Atlanta, GA Feb 2012 – Reviewed Mar 21, 2012

Interview Details – I met people at a career fair who recommended me to work in the Atlanta office. It started as a casual brunch in the mall. He asked 8 simple questions that needed details to describe. I answered them effortlessly. I'm not the ideal blonde hair blue eyed girl but I believe I fit "casual luxury." Anyway, I didn't get a phone call back and I wonder why. Personally, I may be overqualified, but a phone call to say so would be nice.

Interview Question – Name a time you had to make a tough decision.   Answer Question

Manager In Training (MIT) at Abercrombie & Fitch

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Burlington, MA Feb 2012 – Reviewed Feb 7, 2012

Interview Details – Went into a HCO store to return some jeans and was asked whether a) had a four year degree and b) interested in becoming a MIT. I figured I had nothing to lose so the Assistant Manager set up an interview with me and and district manager (DM) the following day. Since the store is fairly loud (blaring music, overly perfumed and generally dark) the DM took me to the Nordstrom Cafe area for the interview. The interview itself was fairly basic. She explained to me the agenda of the interview and then told me I could ask whatever questions I liked at the very end. She first explained to me her own career path to the present, then read the pamphlet of what is expected in the MIT program and a AF Brand employee. After giving me the overview of the company she began a series of behavioral questions that asked me to use examples from my previous work, school, background - All my answers were scribbled into her pamphlet for recording purposes. The whole process took 1.5 hours.

Manager In Training (MIT) at Abercrombie & Fitch

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Portland, OR May 2011 – Reviewed Feb 3, 2012

Interview Details – I interviewed with our district manager. I had already worked for the company before, so I knew that they were hiring pretty much 100% based on looks. The M.I.T. hiring process is the same as the "brand model" hiring process except you need to have a bachelors degree. The questions were pretty simple situational questions about prior experiences or how I handled certain situations.

Interview Question – Name a big challenge you had to overcome in your life?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation. You do not get to choose your salary or which store location you would like to do your MIT program in.

Inventory Management - Corporate Training Program at Abercrombie & Fitch

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in New Albany, OH Dec 2011 – Reviewed Dec 30, 2011

Interview Details – I applied online through my university's career services website. I was contacted by an HR recruiter to set up a time to do a Skype interview. I dressed in A&F casual for the skype interview (Recommended if not Required). The skype interview consisted of standard interview questions, background, why do you want to work for A&F, etc. The next round was a face to face interview at my university's career services building. This interview consisted of two rounds and a Wonderlick IQ Test. The IQ test was conducted by an HR recruiter with a the whole group of interviewees. It consisted of 50 SAT style questions and you have 12 minutes to complete. Then there wasa face to face with an HR recruiter and a face to face with an Inventory Manager (Allocator). These interview questions included: Describe a time when you were unable to meet a deadline, what is your definition of success, why did you want to apply for a position with A&F, what word would your friends most use to describe you, discussion of your resume etc. The next round was an invite to attend a 2 day Home Office interview. Day 1 you arrived at the hotel, was greeted by HR and presented an A&F gift bag with a generous amount of A&F merchandise. Dress was A&F casual, everyone was wearing Flip Flops and it was December. You first go on a tour of Columbus. The main goal of the two day process was to not only make sure you were a fit for A&F but to make sure A&F and Columbus were a fit for you. Home Office day 1 activities include a state of the business presentation by a Senior VP, a Q&A session with that senior VP, a Q&A session with a team of varying levels of Allocators, and various tours of the campus. The next part was a meet and greet/dinner with Interviewers from the next days events. It was very social with drinks before and after dinner. Much of the interview process focused on your personality and how social you are. Day 1 ended with the return to the hotel to prepare for the next day. Day 2 consisted of a tour of the campus stores. During the tour and throughout the entire home office visit, your encouraged to ask as many questions as possible. If you run out of questions you should continue to ask the same questions to other employees to get different perspectives. The next phase a an allocation related team excercise with your group (there were approximately 20 candidates for this round and your are split into groups of 5 or six). Though this exercise was Allocation related, the goal of this activity was more to see how you interact with your group and what role you play in a team environment. The final stage was 3 rounds of interviews and a case study. The case study was 45 minutes long and consisted of real life allocation scenarios. The interviews consisted of 2 interviews with HR and one interview with a Senior Allocator. You are told you will hear back no later than 3 weeks after the home office visit. It was certainly one of the most intense interview processes I went through but also the most beneficial and engaging. You really have a great feel for the position and the culture at the end.

Manager In Training (MIT) at Abercrombie & Fitch

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Troy, MI Mar 2011 – Reviewed Dec 7, 2011

Interview Details – My experience: Was approached by a recruiter and within a few days we agreed on an interview. Questions were behavioral based. "Name a time when you had to deal with a conflict within the workplace and how you resolved any problems." They look for qualities (especially sports related) such as leadership, group involvement, and passion that can translate to being able to manage and motivate 40-150 people at a time. This is a definitely not a position that is a 'stepping stone.' As most interview candidates are internal, external candidates should be prepared to answer how within 5 years they see themselves as having upward mobility within the A&F brand. All interviews are with the District Manager unless approached by a recruiter. If so, after interviewing, there is still a meet-and-greet with your chosen DM.
