Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch (Canton, OH) in March 2013.

Interview

I called into a store inquiring about the position and was told to come in and apply in store. The manager had me apply on an in-store computer then set up and interview with the District Manager for the next week. Interview was 1.5 hours long. started off very relaxed and conversational and then eventually got into basic situational question. None were difficult and he did not seem to interested in my answers. Wrote down brief summaries of my answers in his binder.

After the interview he told me I would hear from him in a week. Didn't hear from him so I called one week later. He told me he was making calls for second interviews that day and asked me to come in for a second. Second "interview" was just explaining the position more and making me an offer. This time he was selling me the position.

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch.

    Interview

Very easy and comfortable. Everyone that is in the company is on the younger side. They ask very standard questions based on retail experience, dealing with people on a difficult project, how you deal with angry people, etc. The district manager will take down notes based on your answer.

    Interview Questions

    • Pretty standard. How did you solve a conflict among a group?   1 Answer

    Negotiation

No negotiations. The DM will call you within 2 weeks and tell you what they're offering for the location and what store you will be placed at.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took a weekinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in November 2012.

    Interview

Stopped by A&F to buy a sweater. Then, got asked if I lived around the area because they wanted to recruit me. I said no, but ended up getting a recruitment card anyway. I checked the positions I could apply for online. Since I have a BA, I applied for the MIT position. Got a call the next day and asked to stop by their store. I met the store manager who was suppose to interview me. But, all she did was ask me if I had a BA and when will I be available to meet with their DM. No interview at all. On my way home, I got a call from the SM. She asked me if I am available to meet with the DM in two days. After two days, I met with the DM at the same store and was asked really simple questions about my resume/experience and some situational questions. After a couple of days, I received a call from another DM who offered me the job. During the interview, I asked to be placed near a certain city - which they did. Really easy process. Sad to say but all you need to do is look good for this job.

    Negotiation

No negotiation. Everyone starts the same depending on the city you're in.

    Interview

Sat down with the District Manger just outside the store. I was asked about my experience and if I could provide scenarios where I improved an organization, overcame a difficult task, name a time you had to meet multiple deadlines in a short period of time, what my most embarrassing moment was.

    Interview

Easy going and laid back. Questions focused more on you as a person and how you could personally manage situations on the job and not as focused on previous experience. Great interview for inexperienced college grads.

    Interview

Very laid back and relaxed in the store or in the malls food court. I actually conducted a few interviews and I would say its 50% your A&F look and 50% personality. Always looking for fresh faced high energy fun to be around people.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch (Schaumburg, IL) in August 2012.

    Interview

Sat down with General Manager at a nearby bench in the mall, she started off by asking me to "walk her through my resume," followed by pretty typical questions such as "what's your greatest weakness?" and "why should I hire you?" The interview lasted about 30 minutes. I went on a slow day so the staff seemed pretty laid back.

    Interview Questions

    • I didn't find any of the questions all that surprising but perhaps the one that could be challenging if you don't have retail experience is "how would you handle a difficult customer?"   Answer Question

    Reasons for Declining

Managers there seemed overworked and underpaid. I know the job routinely requires you to work over time and OFF THE CLOCK (yes, illegally), because every week you're given an arbitrary, fixed amount of hours to get everything done and you can NEVER go over them or get in trouble. Despite the ever-changing amount of hours corporate is willing to pay you and your staff if the store doesn't look perfect every morning then all heck rains down on you and only you.

Every manager I've known that has put themselves through this goes in thinking something better will come out of it, but nine out of ten cases they end up leaving for another store or to work at a bar. In the latter case I'll see them on my Facebook newsfeed telling me about half-priced nachos and $5 margaritas, forcing me to block them.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch (Saint Louis, MO) in May 2012.

    Interview

The interview is very laid back. The interview takes place in the mall food court or any nearby seating area. Interviewer asked general questions about me including interests/hobbies & why I want to join the company. I have a feeling the main goal of this interview is to accomplish two things. First, face-to-face to see if I meet the company's Look Policy. Second, to ensure that I am competent. Lastly, I believe they frown upon any introverts. It is recommended to appear outgoing & extroverted.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch (Los Angeles, CA) in April 2012.

    Interview

I got the interview through my school's On-Campus Recruiting system. The recruiter was friendly and very casual/informal to start off. Eventually, the interview got a bit more serious and she asked about 10-15 situational questions. That was the toughest part of the interview. Besides those questions, it was pretty basic and straight forward. The next week I got an email saying that I could interview with a hiring manager. The hiring manager's "interview" is very laid-back. It's more of a meet-and-greet (they called it that themselves.) This one took no more than 10 minutes while the first interview was closer to an hour.
