I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in August 2012.

Sat down with General Manager at a nearby bench in the mall, she started off by asking me to "walk her through my resume," followed by pretty typical questions such as "what's your greatest weakness?" and "why should I hire you?" The interview lasted about 30 minutes. I went on a slow day so the staff seemed pretty laid back.

    Interview Questions
    • I didn't find any of the questions all that surprising but perhaps the one that could be challenging if you don't have retail experience is "how would you handle a difficult customer?"   Answer Question

Managers there seemed overworked and underpaid. I know the job routinely requires you to work over time and OFF THE CLOCK (yes, illegally), because every week you're given an arbitrary, fixed amount of hours to get everything done and you can NEVER go over them or get in trouble. Despite the ever-changing amount of hours corporate is willing to pay you and your staff if the store doesn't look perfect every morning then all heck rains down on you and only you.

Every manager I've known that has put themselves through this goes in thinking something better will come out of it, but nine out of ten cases they end up leaving for another store or to work at a bar. In the latter case I'll see them on my Facebook newsfeed telling me about half-priced nachos and $5 margaritas, forcing me to block them.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Abercrombie & Fitch in April 2012.

    Interview Details

I got the interview through my school's On-Campus Recruiting system. The recruiter was friendly and very casual/informal to start off. Eventually, the interview got a bit more serious and she asked about 10-15 situational questions. That was the toughest part of the interview. Besides those questions, it was pretty basic and straight forward. The next week I got an email saying that I could interview with a hiring manager. The hiring manager's "interview" is very laid-back. It's more of a meet-and-greet (they called it that themselves.) This one took no more than 10 minutes while the first interview was closer to an hour.

10-15 rather easy questions that you can find on this site. After the interview with the DM of the campus stores I was told it would take a couple weeks to decide on which candidates he would consider. I was also told that there would be a letter sent to your house whether you got the job or not. I worked in a campus store for approximately 4 years and had a great experience. My managers were all nice along with my general managers. The atmosphere is just what you would expect at Abercrombie & Fitch's home office. Easy on the eyes and not so much on the ears with the same hour playlist playing over and over and over until it changes which happens 4 times a year but you learn to tone out the music after a few months.

Went into a HCO store to return some jeans and was asked whether a) had a four year degree and b) interested in becoming a MIT. I figured I had nothing to lose so the Assistant Manager set up an interview with me and and district manager (DM) the following day. Since the store is fairly loud (blaring music, overly perfumed and generally dark) the DM took me to the Nordstrom Cafe area for the interview. The interview itself was fairly basic. She explained to me the agenda of the interview and then told me I could ask whatever questions I liked at the very end. She first explained to me her own career path to the present, then read the pamphlet of what is expected in the MIT program and a AF Brand employee. After giving me the overview of the company she began a series of behavioral questions that asked me to use examples from my previous work, school, background - All my answers were scribbled into her pamphlet for recording purposes. The whole process took 1.5 hours.

The interview was very relaxed and in a casual manner. I sat down with the district manager in a food court area of a mall. I was first asked about why I wanted to work for the company and why I am a good candidate, and then I was presented with a series of situation based questions.

I met people at a career fair who recommended me to work in the Atlanta office. It started as a casual brunch in the mall. He asked 8 simple questions that needed details to describe. I answered them effortlessly. I'm not the ideal blonde hair blue eyed girl but I believe I fit "casual luxury." Anyway, I didn't get a phone call back and I wonder why. Personally, I may be overqualified, but a phone call to say so would be nice.

A 4 year degree is required to apply for the MIT program; with some exceptions made for those still in college, but have less than 16 credit hours to complete. Manager's in the stores are pushed to recruit attractive, young, extroverted people into the management program, and will jump on you if you fit the criteria. A brief application can be completed in store or online (password required), and a call from the District Manager can be expected within a few days to schedule an interview. The 1:1 interview with the DM takes less than a half hour, and casual A&F clothing should be worn to the interview. Unnatural hair styling, facial hair, nose/lip piercings, and visible tattoos are an automatic disqualifier. A desirable candidate will portray a confident, youthful, pleasant attitude. If selected for the position expect a call within 5 days of the interview. Desirable candidates are often offered the position the next day.
