I applied online – interviewed at Airgas in October 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied online through Monster.Com and was contacted a week or so later. The interview was fairly simple. It was a small office and everybody (3 employees) sat in on the interview. I wasn't asked any questions. I was just old about the job specifically; salary, benefits, duties, etc.

I applied online. The process took 3+ weeksinterviewed at Airgas in June 2014.

    Interview Details

Submitted application through a difficult web interface. Waited weeks to hear back from them. Finally traded phone calls for a few weeks and then never heard another thing. Might be my background did not match but was never told so and felt as thought they just never responded.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Airgas in May 2014.

    Interview Details

Applied online, asked to complete an assessment test and then in-person interview with two managers. Both were unprepared and vague. Questions were typical and interview took less than an hour. Had several applicants scheduled at the same time and date.

I applied through other source. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Airgas in March 2014.

    Interview Details

Had to take an extremely long and irrelevant assessment. I came in for 2 separate interviews. The first interview was more like taking an in-person quiz and for the second interview, they wanted me to provide a strategy for their business challenges. Was not a positive experience.

    Inside Sales Account Manager Interview

    Application Details

I applied online – interviewed at Airgas.

    Interview Details

Initial process included a brief phone interview (an outsourced HireVelocity employee), then sending me a assessment that included personality, math, and vocabulary sort of questions. The assessment took about 45 minutes to an hour.

After the assessment, I was notified by someone at Airgas to schedule an on-site interview at the City of Industry location in California. My interview was about 2 hours long with the VP of Sales and a Senior Account Manager. The VP of Sales was mostly taking notes during my responses and didn't seem very engaging as my first interview with the Senior Acct. Manager.

After a week, someone from HireVelocity emailed me thanking for my time and letting me know that I would not be moving on with the process.

    Credit Analyst Interview

I applied through a recruiter. The process took a dayinterviewed at Airgas.

    Interview Details

Called last minute to schedule interview. I drove 2 hours to make the interview and no one was at the front desk when I arrived so I wondered around asking people to help me find the person I was interviewing with. After a few failed attempts I finally found the right person. All she did was look at my resume and asked me to talk about my work experience. No situational type questions. She interrupted me every time I tried to go into detail about something. The interviewer also told me I wasn't a credit analyst because I also had prior collections experience and there was no way I could become a credit anlayst, even though my resume clearly states I have 3+ years experience as a credit analyst. She even tried to stop the interview and send me to another department but the person did not answer her call. Overall horrible experience. I would rather live in a homeless shelter and eat dirt than work at this place.

I applied online. The process took a dayinterviewed at Airgas in August 2012.

    Interview Details

This company needs to learn how to interview candidates more efficiently. I spent almost 2 hours in the conference room. They could have saved a lot of time by making this a panel interview. I had to wait about 10 minutes for the first lady to come in to speak with. She was very nice and we talked for about 30 minutes. After that she wanted to bring the sales manager in to speak with me, however I had to wait about another 15 more minutes before she came in. Once she came in, we spoke for about another 30 minutes and she asked the same questions the first lady asked. Then she tells me she wants to bring her boss in. Well I had to wait another 10 more minutes and then she comes back in and tells me that she'll be coming in about any moment. I was getting really irritated at this point with all the waiting I had to do. I asked her if this was the last person I would be speaking with and she told me yes. After waiting for ANOTHER 15 more minutes, a different lady comes in and tells me that I need to come back in another day to do another interview. However, the following week, I get a phone call from Jason, the recruiter telling me they had found another candidate that was better qualified. Unbelievable!

    Collections Interview

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Airgas in July 2012.

    Interview Details

I was interviewed by in two older women in Independence OH. I had more then enough experience for the job (11 years) and also have a college degree, the questions were very basic. The interview started off very well with lots of smiles and laughs.
Then it got wierd! If you want to get this job do NOT bring up personal information!!! I let them know that part of the reason I wanted this job was for my growing family. With this statement the interview quickly turned badly and I was later turned down for the job. I dont know what these women have against being a family man but they clearly appeared scorn. I know it seems strange but its the only explanation I can think of. Good luck and I hope this helps any potential employees.

    Tech and Coordinator Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Appleton, WI
Anonymous Interview Candidate in Appleton, WI
    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 7+ weeksinterviewed at Airgas in July 2012.

    Interview Details

Airgas in Appleton, WI led me on a a glorious near two-month long journey, touting all along the way that I was a great and exceptional fit for the first position they offered me, and then dangled another position in front of me saying I could apply for that if this one did not work out. Went through 4 interviews, a 4 hour long test online and a week between each interview.

During the last interview, I was told that it was between me and two other candidates. I was pleased to hear that. I thought I had a good chance, especially with my experience and past work history. Nope, sorry, a week later I get a call from the HR coordinator saying sorry you are no good, we promoted from within.

During my last interview, they offered me a chance at another position, slightly less in pay, if this one did not work out for me. I said well of course, it seems like another good fit for me.

So I ended up going in for an interview the following week for this position.

A week and a half later, I receive a rejection for the second position via email. The good old cookie cutter response that every single company dishes you these days; "We are sorry, we have decided to pursue other candidates". I'm sorry, but my experience was in line with both positions, and all interview managers claimed I was a great and precise fit. Apparently, I wasn't good enough after all.

I have been unemployed for over 8 months, and this is the closest I have gotten to a position within something I am proficient in. I have been applying constantly and this is 1 of 4 places out of about 350 that I actually got called for an interview at. I am sick and tired of companies teasing positions in front of you, claiming you are such a great fit, and then pass over you, waste hours and hours of my time, and only in the end to give me some canned joke response that I am all of a sudden not a good fit and we aren't interested.

The hiring practices of today's companies makes it so difficult for individuals possessing the necessary skills to gain entry to positions that they are qualified for. Somewhere along the line, it became necessary to load the hiring process with bureaucracy, 5 different people involved in the interview and communication process, 3 different departments, etc. etc. You could be the best qualified individual for the job and answer one of their trick questions wrong and you cut your own throat. The job hunt, and job search is disgusting.

And Airgas is no exception. Just another bureaucratic company that uses trick questions and tests to see if the candidates know how to answer correctly.

Because 7 years direct experience in a very similar field, and 6 years combined periphery experience in customer service and sales must mean something.Oh, and a college education. And I am 25. I am young and ready to work.

So I know that I was passed over for ridiculous reasons such as not smiling enough or wearing the wrong colored tie.

At this point, I am pulling out of the job hunt. This frustrated me to a point that I just don't care anymore. If you feel like being toyed with, apply at this company. If not, move on and hopefully your future looks better then mine.
