    Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at AmeriCorps in July 2015.

    Interview

Initial "interview" was with AmeriCorps VISTA supervisor to go over details of the program itself in most cases. Interviews were conducted by the different non-profits themselves that I would be working for. Questions varied from organization to organization as well as knowledge about how VISTA itself works. For a few organizations there was only one group interview before a final offer was tendered. One interview there was an initial phone call interview followed by a skype interview. Another organization began with a group interview then had a final 1:1 interview with the CEO to do any final vetting.

    Interview Questions

    • Every single interview asked "Why AmeriCorps? Why VISTA?" "How would your current or most recent supervisor describe you? How would you describe yourself?"   Answer Question

    AmeriCorps VISTA Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Chicago, IL

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at AmeriCorps (Chicago, IL) in July 2014.

    Interview

When I came in for the interview at the organization that I was to be placed at, I was glad that it was not through an AmeriCorps member, but through our staff that I would be working with. I did not understand the divide between AmeriCorps and that my organization, but now I understand that AmeriCorps is more of a placement agency that helps organizations they fund to find potential VISTAs. You learn everything from your site at the actual place you're going to work in.

    Interview Questions

    • They asked me if I would be willing to work for the pay that the living allowance allows. They also asked me what my experience fundraising was, since it was a Resource Development Associate position, and they needed to gauge that. I also was asked how I handle stress, time management, multiple projects, and also how to act in the office environment.   Answer Question

    AmeriCorps VISTA Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Cincinnati, OH
    Accepted Offer
    Neutral Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at AmeriCorps (Cincinnati, OH) in May 2014.

    Interview

I sent in my application, and within a few days, several sites contacted me for a phone screen. Then you move on to a phone interview or in-person interview. I interviewed with several positions, and the interviews were fairly straightforward. There were no surprises. Ex: "When have you ever shown initiative outside of school?" was the hardest question for me to answer. It's true that a lot of places just need warm bodies to fill an under-funded position, so I'm shocked that they even require a degree.
