Financial Planner Intern Interview (Neutral Experience)

Interview Details – I applied through my college career website and got a call the next day after submitting my resume. The interviewer mostly asked general questions about skills, future career goals, and my class schedule. He didn't seem to be too prepared with questions.

Business Systems Analyst II Interview (Negative Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied online and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Ameriprise in October 2013.
Interview Details – Recieved a call for a phone interview about 4 or 5 days after applying online. Phone interview scheduled, and the HR recruiter was 30 minutes late (which is frustrating as I am currently employed and needed to reserve a conference room). Phone interview went really well, despite the HR recruiter's lateness.
Contacted via phone about a week later, asking for an in-person interview. Met with the hiring manager and one of her associates. Interview went well, mostly STAR questions, but they were quite difficut -- lots of questions about ethics, which I did not expect for this interview.
Was told the recruiter would let me know within a week. Never heard back. Very unprofessional!

Finance Intern Interview (Neutral Experience)
Interviewed at Ameriprise
Interview Details – They held a reception the night before to get to know the interviewers. The interview was an hour long with two 30 minute sections with two different interviewers.

Client Service Coordinator Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied in-person and the process took a day - interviewed at Ameriprise.
Interview Details – Entered Client Information Into Database; Contacted Client's When Their Income Tax Checks Arrived; Provided Customer Service.

Very Easy Interview
Senior Claims Adjuster Interview (Negative Experience; Very Easy Interview)
I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Ameriprise.
Interview Details – Completed online application and was called for phone interview with HR. Has follow up phone interview with hiring manager. I was then invited to come onsite for interview, but they expected me to pay for the flight and all expenses. I balked and said that was not common and what I had previously experienced. I was told I was their number one candidate and they wanted me, but they also did not think they could meet my salary expectations. The last I heard was that they were going to consider a Skype interview or some alternate type of interview arrangement. That was more than 3 weeks ago. I have not heard anything since then. Not cool, especially when you are allegedly their number one candidate. Meh.
Interview Question – None. All the interview questions were standard behavioral type questions. Answer Question
Business Analyst Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Ameriprise in January 2013.
Interview Details – Submitted resume online and received email a few days later asking for me to call in and set up phone interview. I did so, but to only have the HR person do the phone screening then and there. It was fine for me as I called when I didn't have anything pressing, but would like be different if you're at your current work etc.
Questions were basic HR stuff "Tell me more about your work experience", "Do you know how to use Excel/Access".
Phone call was going fine until HR asked me my salary requirements and I gave her a "higher than this" number. Then there was an awkward pause and she revealed "This position only pays between 45K-50K, are you still set on your original salary requirement?"
Personally, the amount they were willing to pay is less than what I made coming out of college so I told her the salary was non-negotiable and we ended our call there, but if the amount is something you can work with then by all means use my review as your negotiation tool ;).
Interview Question – None. Just basic HR stuff. No technical questions. Answer Question
Interest Rate Quantitative Analyst Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied online and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Ameriprise in July 2012.
Interview Details – About three days after submitting my application, I got a call from a recruiter to set up a phone interview with a manager.
The interview with the manager went well I think. However I told the manager I had not yet completed my dissertation and his recommendation was that I complete it before I start working. The manager was nice and friendly.
Most if not all of the questions were based on what I told the manager.

Manager Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
The process took a day - interviewed at Ameriprise in August 2011.
Interview Details – The interview process consisted of the usual behavioral questions. These questions ask questions about "what you would do" vs. what did you do. The interview was easy, but the competition was intense.

Intern Interview (Neutral Experience; Easy Interview)
The process took a day - interviewed at Ameriprise in October 2011.
Interview Details – Interview was all behavioral. I showed up on site to the company and she took me into an office and sat down with me one on one. They generally look for an interns to stay for at least a year but they only stay for about a semester. The lady just asked me to walk her through my resume. They are particularly interested if you have experience in insurance.
