Land Department Interview (Neutral Experience)
Interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum
Interview Details – Interveiwers were very knowledgeable and nice. Asked very good questions about my experence and how much i knew about the job I was appying for. They were very courteous and it didn't feel like I was being interrogated but rather interested in what kind of experience I had.
EHS Summer Intern Interview (Positive Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum.
Interview Details – I applied for a summer internship with Anadarko through my university. I first met with a hiring manager who conducted the initial interview. I was very nervous at first and the hiring manager seemed very tough but warmed up quickly when I asked her questions about the position. It went well though and about a week later I received a call from my would-be supervisor who said he wanted to discuss the position more. When I called back it turned into a conference call interview, so I didn't feel as prepared. He also asked less generic interview questions and more difficult, position-specific questions. A week went by after this second interview before the supervisor called me again to offer me the intern position. I was elated!
Interview Question – What do you believe is the most effective way to develop and enact a new company policy? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – The original job listing gave an hourly salary range. I got the maximum amount, so there was was no negotiating.
Accountant II Interview (Neutral Experience)
I applied online and interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum.
Interview Details – I had been applying for years at any available position possible. And finally after two years I finally got a call from HR. They scheduled my interview and I ended up having an interview with my whole entire group! (apparently there were problems of not mixing well before me). After answering questions from everyone in the group, I thought it would be another long wait, but it was not! Moments from leaving the interview, I was getting calls from my references that they were already calling!! The next day they extended me an offer upon passing a drug test, background and credit check. The drug test is a hair sample. Some people said they cut a big chunk out, but the nurse was nice enough to cut two different places so there wasn't a huge gap.
Interview Question – All the questions were those about my job experience. Answer Question
Senior Land Specialist Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum in May 2012.
Interview Details – Initial communication was at least a month following application. The interview was a mix of casual and structured. Follow-up didn't occur until several weeks after.
Interview Question – The most difficult question asked for my experience with title work. It was very broad. Answer Question
ITS Analyst Interview (Positive Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took 2 months - interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum in October 2010.
Interview Details – Anadarko typically only hires new college grads out of the intern program, so if you're wanting a job with us, start by interning. I applied for an internship, accepted, interned, and was hired. I interviewed in September on campus and heard back in late October. The ITS intern program takes 10-12 interns from all schools. At one school alone, they received 130 applications, interviewed 13, and took 2.
It's very competitive. Anadarko is essentially the Goldman Sachs of the oil and gas industry.
The average employee at Anadarko equates to $3 million of revenue per year, so only the best is accepted. Out of 10-12 interns, typically only 1-2 are chosen for full time. This is based purely on performance, and how well you match up with our company values.
Negotiation Details – I was blown away by the offer, so I accepted on the spot. I felt it was more than fair, and had no desire to negotiate.
Compensation for the internship is lower than companies such as Chevron, PwC, and COP. However, compensation for full-time employement is unbeatable.
Engineer Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum in September 2011.

Senior Financial Analyst Interview (Positive Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum in April 2010.
Interview Details – Recruiter contacted me and described the opportunity. The phone interview was very comfortable - no tough questions. The one on one interview was again very pleasant. The interviewer was basically selling the company and the position.

Reason for Declining – A new management at my company indicated that there would be limited downsizing and that the remaining staff would get additional responsibilities and compensation.
Intern Interview (Negative Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Anadarko Petroleum in May 2007.
Interview Details – I interviewed on campus for an intern position. I signed up through the career center and was given an on-campus interview. The day before the interview there is an information session. It is not required, but you are highly encouraged to attend. They take role and know who shows up. The interview consisted of a recruiter and a younger engineer asking questions. They asked about my resume, and asked some behavioral questions. It was not entirely behavioral though, and the questions were not as difficult as some of the others I have had. If you accept an offer with them be prepared for a hair follicle drug test, and a complete physical if it is for a field position.
