I applied through college or university – interviewed at BP.

    Interview Details

Applied via online site and had a campus interview. Interview was 90 minutes - 45 minutes behavioral/fit, 45 minutes of a non-technical case study. The questions were very repetitive and asked repeatedly with minimal changes in the wording. Case wasn't technical which made it hard to determine whether or not the answer was correct.

    Interview Questions
    • You are given two projects to evaluate. One has a higher upfront cost but potential for greater earnings over time, while the other one is cheaper but is not expected to generate as much revenue. Which one do you undertake?   Answer Question

I applied through college or university. The process took 5 weeksinterviewed at BP.

    Interview Details

I applied through my campus career management center. I was chosen for an interview and then invited for dinner to talk to recruiters the day before the interview. There were two 45 minute parts to the interview. The first part of the interview just asked about my experiences (it was a lot of "tell me about a time" questions). The second part was the technical portion of the interview which was way easier than I expected. The process took 5 weeks.

    Interview Details

I applied on campus, the interview was an hour and 15 minutes long, fairly simple. Mostly simple behavioral questions. Case questions at the end to see how you think. Again, fairly simple. Nothing too hard. They asked mostly team-based questions.
EX. Tell me about a time where you had a teammate do X and you had to fix it

    Interview Questions
    • Business Case- they try to get to see how you think about real world business problems.. At the pre-interview reception they said there was really no way to be prepared for it. Fairly simple.
EX. Project X is not profitable, should we keep it?

I applied online through my university's job board, and in 2 weeks I was able to schedule an on campus interview. The interview consisted of situational questions and technical questions, focused on transformers. The technical questions were more focused on the thought process and not just the answer itself. After everything, he gave me a card for 5 free song downloads, as a token of appreciation in being interested in BP.

On-campus interview for graduate students - info session and dinner were the night before the interview and the recruiters were friendly and personable, as well as very knowledgeable about the company. Interview was 75 minutes long and included both behavioral questions as well as a "case" that was really a series of related situational questions.

It was a good conversation. Basic star type questions. Tell me a time.... Like that. The technical part was really hard. But the interviewer explains everything softly and clearly. Overall a good experience

I applied through an employee referral – interviewed at BP in September 2014.

    Interview Details

Interview consists of two cases. Each case is with two interviews. The cases seemed easier than the extremely detailed behavioral portion in which you are expected to give step-by-step examples of skills you have previously performed. The bottom line is that they are seeking individuals with a background in analytics.

I applied online. The process took 12+ monthsinterviewed at BP in August 2014.

    Interview Details

i applied online through the website at least a year ago for the position. thats correct, at least a year ago! i was so used to receiving adverse emails from them that i nearly deleted the email that said "congratulations... you have been selected...: blah blah blah. i never understood how congrats could be in order, when i wasnt offered a job (yet.) :) my philosphy is that when you receive notifications like that the company's HR system must be the infamous black hole people discuss. anyway, i was quite excited to receive the call with the hiring manager for two reasons. 1. it was with BP. 2. location, location, location. it was located in an area in WA quite close to the canadian border. a beautiful area. anyway, the nice things end there.
the HR manager obviously was young, sneaky and what a call a "desk jockey" engineer. it was further proven in the interview when i asked about her background. she sounded like the typical engineer given her positon simply because of her looks. and im not trying to be spiteful, just telling the truth. it was further compounded by her unprofessionalism through the interview. i could go on and on and on. by her demeanor, i simply do not know how she became a manager of other engineers. i knew she was someone i wouldnt want to work for when she made the typical comment "...you will hear something in two weeks, about the process, depending on HR they are so slow... "
    right...
my conclusion? BP is one of those companies that takes the top 10% of recent chemical engineering grads and brainwashes them.
all theory, not much plant experience. which may explain the reasons why they had those "issues" in the past. engineers without actual plant experience is a real problem. theres a reason they call it "hands on" for a reason. to design without knowing, is to design a real problem.
