Product Manager - Electronic Payments Interview

Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6+ weeksinterviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)).

    Interview

Multiple rounds as expected. Barclays provided an interview guide suggesing preparation based on STAR type responses. First interview was HR, followed by 2 in business and final by hiring manager.

After 3 rounds and meeting multiple people I was told that even though they liked me but won't make an offer as I did not have any banking background. If that was the key qualification then why would they not eliminate me after 1st or 2nd interview ? My CV did not say I was from banking so pretty strange ending....

    Interview Questions

    • What transferable skills do you possess
      Why Barclays
      Why payments specifically

    Vice President Interview

Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)

    Negative Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ monthsinterviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)) in April 2015.

    Interview

Four stages to the process. At stage one I had to facilitate a session with the prospective team I would be working with, I was then told my the director that this was a positive change to improving the interview process and making it shorter. Unfortunately, this did not hold true as I went to Barclays another three times to do the standard interview process.

On the final interview, I was told to expect a values interview, however when I arrived, the director I met, said he didn't know what role I was interviewing for and had just been told to interview me. When we did eventually find a room to go to, he didn't asked me values questions, rather my opinions in banking and where I though Barclays fitted in banking.

Two weeks later I received a call; to say that they had ceased recruitment of this role and that they may look for someone in 6 months. but that they would prefer to recruit someone internally! Clearly I was unimpressed and felt that my time had been wasted.

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3+ monthsinterviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)) in February 2015.

    Interview

phone interview. Strength based 12 questions. Nothing too hard, to be honest.
assessment day. 2 interviews and trading game. Be prepared for the trading, find a previous analyst or something who has done it, and find out what the optimal strategy is, and stick to it, do not be confused, and it should be easy from then on.
Interviews were standard, but also with the people you will be working with, try and give off your hard working personality and things like that.

    Barclays Treasury Summer Interview

Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1 dayinterviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)) in January 2015.

    Interview

The first round consisted of a 30 minute phone interview with a member of HR who just asked a set of pre set questions and typed out my answers. The questions primarily consisted of why I want to work for barclays/why this particular role. There were then a set of questions about how I feel about being in certain situations such as how I feel about working with data.

There was then a final round AC which took place in a Canary Wharf hotel and consisted of 3 1 hour interviews and a group exercise. There was also meant to be random re-testing for the online maths test but they didn't do that for us. The interviewers were all nice and easy to talk to, however they often repeated each others questions in a slightly different manor possibly trying to catch you out.The questions were similar to the phone interview questions and focused on 'how you feel about' questions, where you are encouraged to give an example but not explicitly asked to. For the group exercise we were each given an ipad and had to monitor incoming emails, IM's and voicemails then prioritise them, we then had to discuss our findings as a group and come to a consensus with a minute presentation on our reasoning.

    Sales Summer Interview

Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeksinterviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)).

    Interview

Online application. Online test. Phone interview. Accessment Center.

It took them about 2,3 weeks from online app to phone interview. And I just had my phone interview and the HR told me they don't have a fixed time to get back to me after that because they still have some candidates to interview etc.

    Interview Questions

    • Do you follow the market news and lots of competency based questions.

But they will change up their way of asking and its up to you to interprets. The HR will only repeat the questions exactly as it is, and won't paraphrase. To be honest, it's possibly my worst phone interview.

      They also asked about ethics.

    Human Resources Business Partner Interview

Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)) in November 2014.

    Interview

    Face-to-face interview at Barclays
Was advised by the recruitment agency it would be a competency-based interview.
It was a mix of competency-based and unprofessional questions in a particular unrespectful attitude. The most unprofessional and personally unpleasant interview ever. I would have left, I only stayed because referred by a big recruitment agency, so it would have been taking the risk to be blacklisted from it.
I will never re apply for this Bank. I was contacted another recruitment agency 2 months later for a role in another business unit, I said NO.
If it is like that just on interview, I don't dare to imagine how nasty it is inside.

    Interview Questions

    • So you were unemployed for that period ? (You didn't find job) How does it feel (with big smile) ? Asked several times with a big smile for the different periods unemployed.   Answer Question

Summer, Internal Audit (I Failed IT) Interview

Anonymous Employee in London, England (UK)
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Average Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 dayinterviewed at Barclays (London, England (UK)) in June 2014.

    Interview

    - psychometric test: standard numerical and verbal reasoning
    - competency based interview.
    - chronological interview (your motivations)

Pretty fair interview process. Few thing to watch out for:
    1. People at this company can really be in love with Barclays, which says a lot about the company. Make sure that everything you do or say CANNOT be interpreted as you are trying to undermine the company in any way.
    2. Part of the feed-back I got was that I was "too calm" in the interview, this coupled with my not so well structured answers gave the feeling that Barclays was not nervous in the interview therefore did not want the job badly enough.

They give pretty good feedback even if you do not get the job, definitely worth applying.
