Summer, Internal Audit (I Failed IT) Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at Barclays in June 2014.
Interview Details – - psychometric test: standard numerical and verbal reasoning
- competency based interview.
- chronological interview (your motivations)
Pretty fair interview process. Few thing to watch out for:
1. People at this company can really be in love with Barclays, which says a lot about the company. Make sure that everything you do or say CANNOT be interpreted as you are trying to undermine the company in any way.
2. Part of the feed-back I got was that I was "too calm" in the interview, this coupled with my not so well structured answers gave the feeling that Barclays was not nervous in the interview therefore did not want the job badly enough.
They give pretty good feedback even if you do not get the job, definitely worth applying.

Trading Intern Interview (Neutral Experience; Difficult Interview)
I interviewed at Barclays in November 2013.
Interview Details – phone interview competency based, scripted and very standard, try to be engaging though. assessment centre was competencies but the traders asking them wanted to get onto more technical side/brainteasers. I am a maths student so one of them asked me about the heat equation and proving compactness of the interval [a,b].
Interview Question – tell me a time you had to make a decision based on ethical issues Answer Question

Interview Question – The group exercise was pretty hard as critical thinking based, you have to react quicly Answer Question
Future Leaders Development Programmer Interview (Negative Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Barclays in December 2013.
Interview Details – I had applied to Barclays FLDP in the UK for a role in their technology grad scheme in retail banking. After completing three tests, I received an email from them confirming that I had been cleared for the next round which would be a telephone interview and should book a suitable interview slot. After approximately a day of receiving the said email (which was most likely system generated/ generic), I received a personalised email informing me that the previous email was an error and that I had in fact not managed to succeed in the online tests.
I fail to see how this could have been an error-- the references given in the emails were all correct and relevant to my candidate profile. I may be acting overly sceptical but I am forced to think that they decided to cancel my application after they realised that they'd have to provide visa sponsorship for me. I was clearly extremely well qualified for the grad role and had surely done modestly well in all tests. Its worth noting that they only send you a test after you clear the previous one and if I am to believe that they ruled me out based on my performance in the final test (verbal reasoning), there is no way I could have done better on the more difficult earlier test (numerical reasonign and SJT).
Interview Question – Was unduly prevented from appearing for the phone interview Answer Question
Intern Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and interviewed at Barclays.
Interview Details – Numerical Tests - Standard Numerical Tests

You you pass these test and they like the answers to the competency questions you then get invited for a telephone interview which was pretty relaxed compared to other banks. Lastly after passing the phone interview you go on to the assessment centre.
Interview Question – What would you do if you were rejected?

Summer Analyst Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Barclays in September 2012.
Interview Details – Same application process as most banks.
1. Online application with competency questions such as What differentiates barclays, what recent development has affected barclays, and why are you interested in the division you applied to?
2. Online testing, basic SHL Numerical and Verbal
3. Phone interview again basic phone interview mainly competency questions asking for competencies such as leadership, teamwork, and of course motivations on joining Barclays. No technical questions were asked during this stage.
4. Assessment Centre, this consisted of a group exercise and two additional 1 on 1 interviews with some of barclays senior bankers.
Group exercise was simple debt or equity financing where you worked alongside 3 other candidates and you had to present afterwards. While the 1 on 1 interviews mainly asked for competency questions, motivations to join barclays, some basic technical questions, and a few brainteasers, however nothing at all detailed. E.g they will not ask you to do a DCF or explain an LBO analysis.
Overall very structured and efficient interview process.
