Cashier Interview

Cashier
London, England (UK)

I applied online - interviewed at Barclays in June 2014.

Interview Details – Submit my c.v online and lucky enough was invited to interview the about 2 weeks after. Interview is competency based you get the four or five questions area before hand so think of possible questions based on them and you be. Have a lot of examples helps show you know what you talking about have done it before. Only decide to write this because I found reviews and tips on here helpful so why not help future applicants.

Interview Question – Questions not really difficult . Just prepare practice practice practice and you have a high chance to succeed. Biggest tip is , go to nearest branch and ask 4 help how prepare etc I decided do the same and I think it gave me a better chance of standing out. So go the xtra mile if u want it that bad I guess   Answer Question

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Barclays in October 2010.

Not especially friendly, but not overly aggressive.

Interview Question – All quite standard   Answer Question

Client Services Interview

Client Services
London, England (UK)

I applied online and the process took 6+ weeks - interviewed at Barclays in January 2013.

Interview Details – Applied online through their portal, told application received.
2 weeks later email from HR inviting me to their head office for testing.
Testing lasted 45 minutes at 8am, very easy if you are british, not easy if foreign. (Numerical test is how do you write figures into numbers e.g. one thousand six hundred and twenty four dollars and ninety cents - $1,624.99. Reasoning test is reading a paragraph and saying what is true, false or unanswerable. English test is spelling e.g. what is the same as 'wave of water' currant or current. 4th test is speed/accuracy - you are given two sheets of paper with the same 40 lines, in some lines there are mistakes on sheet B which are not on sheet A, you need to circle these). Like I said, very easy testing.
When you pass this, you are invited to a 5 minute call with someone from the language you speak i.e. French, a French lady from France will call you for a quick chat just to test your French.
When you pass this, you are invited to a competency based interview with the future manager.
This is very easy, just remind yourself of their competencies, values and use the STAR formation to answer.

Interview Question – Tell me a time you made a decision you regret.
Tell me a time you made an ambitious goal.
  Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Pay was too low and hours were too early.

I applied through other source and the process took 7+ weeks - interviewed at Barclays in February 2010.

Interview Details – very thorough multi-part competency interviews (over 10 hours worth) give the bank a good chance to assess you and for you to judge your future colleagues. Competencies include control environment, communication skills, technical and business skills. These are followed by a detailed biographical interview (similar to CIDS). Interviewers will be peers and seniors from across the bank (not just the division you are joining)

Interview Question – explain how you will make your mark in such a large bank undergoing tough changes   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – push back on the first offer and see if you can get more. each grade has a pay band which they won't exceed as there is a large element of variable reward
