I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

    Interview

I got a call a day after I submitted an app online from the manager who was wanting to set up an interview. I met with her about 3 days later and that went really well! She was so sweet, easy to talk to, and answered any questions I had during the process. At the end of our interview she asked me to come back for the make under interview, where you bring a model and they watch: your technique, how you interact with the client, your appearance, and how you know the products(so be sure to study a little). For my make under I met with another manager who was also sweet, made me feel comfortable and answered questions and guided me through the make under protocol. It went well, I am not a professional makeup artist by any means and she said I did great! After that was done she told me the main manager would get back to me that night or the next day. Although I did not get a call either of those days, I was called today with a job offer that I gladly accepted!

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Bare Escentuals (Pittsburgh, PA) in May 2015.

    Interview

So I saw online from the mall website that Bare Minerals was hiring. I have absolutely no background in cosmetics or makeup other than personal experience. I figured I might as well just try, I was desperate for a job for the summer, and I've always loved Bare Minerals. So I got a call the very next day asking for me to come into the interview. I did a few days later, had a nice conversation with one of the assistant managers (maybe keyholders?) and she asked some pretty basic questions. Took only about 30 minutes. On the spot, she scheduled my second interview with the store manager. I have a lot of sales experience, especially one-on-one sales. She loved that. So she scheduled the interview for a few days later. I came in, talked with the manager, pretty similar. Nothing too crazy. I got a call the next day to schedule the "make-under" audition. Not gonna lie, I was incredibly nervous for this. Like I said, I don't have cosmetic experience, and they were aware of that. So I did a little bit of research on their products online, nothing too crazy, but just a little bit. I brought in my friend, and they gave me a list of scenarios to choose from (bridal, stay-at-home mom going out on the town, smokey eye, etc.) so I chose a girl going in for an interview who wants a more professional look. I did a pretty simple look, and the girl who was watching said I did a good job at the end. Don't be afraid to ask questions! You don't work there yet so if you don't know where something is or how to take eyeshadow out of the pod (I accidentally dumped a bunch of it into a lid), just ask! They are super helpful and know you're not going to be perfect. Like I said, I was super nervous, so I probably didn't talk as much as I was supposed to during the audition but I think they understand the nerves. So the very next day, I got a call and they offered me a job! So it took a little bit more than a week for the whole process. It was fairly easy, just the audition made me pretty nervous.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Bare Escentuals (Houston, TX) in May 2015.

    Interview

I applied online and about 3 weeks later received a call from a nearby mall. I went in for my first interview and it was about an hour long. The manager gave me a whole bunch of situation questions with trick answers that were a little difficult. However, she liked my answers and scheduled me for the second interview which was actually applying makeup on a model you bring. They aren't totally looking for application techniques but more how you can sell to a customer and interact with them while applying the makeup. It was really hard to pretend with my best friend and felt silly but I have experience doing makeup so I only bombed the whole selling aspect. After I was finished she asked my model what she thought of her makeup, and then told me she would call me this week to discuss what I did and whether or not I will be offered a position. If I am offered the position I will 100% accept it.

    Interview

I applied online and had a phone interview later that same day. The call went well and was told she would review my application with the hiring manager to schedule an interview. I called a week later to follow up and was told they would schedule if my resume and availability matched what they're looking for..which did.. and if there is an opening at that store.

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bare Escentuals in March 2015.

    Interview

Applied in person and got called 2 days later for an interview. Went really well! We talked for about 40 min and it was like talking to a friend. After the interview she scheduled me for a makeup demo the next day before the store opened! Super surprised about that! I kinda bombed the demo. It was a little hard to "play the part" with someone I knew and my model kept wanting to talk to the manager who was sitting there. So I was even more surprised when 2 days later the manager scheduled my phone interview with another manager of a sister store. 3 days after that I got called and offered the job! I can't remember all the interview questions but they're pretty standard. Just be as honest as possible and try not to dress up an answer to impress them or try to fit in with what you think they want. Just tell it like it is. That's the first time I answered really honestly in an interview and they loved my natural personality. Which is new to me because I can sometimes turn people off with my take charge nature and weird things I say. Hahaha!

    Interview

I applied in person with a resume and was asked to fill out a paper application then and there. I interviewed with both manager and assistant manager. I was advised that I could begin working when the girl I was replacing when on leave. it took weeks of checking back before I was officially hired and began working. interview was typical of any other I've been on. it helps to know a little bit about bare minerals before hand.

    Negotiation

I didn't negotiate my pay. if I could go back and do it again, I would. I accepted their first offer. I found out later that they typically will give you what you ask for, depending on experience and within reason.

    Interview

I had two interviews one was just getting to know me, and what knowledge I had with the products, and makeup in general. The next one was a make-under where I brought in a friend, and did a look based on a certain situation, mine was a bridal look, I made sure to really try and "sell" the product, and make sure my client was happy with how the look was coming along after each step.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

    Interview

I'd never worked a cosmetics job before but I did have previous retail experience. I filled out an application online and got a call back a few days later saying that they had some questions for me. I was out of town so it took me a day or two to get back to them. She just wanted to clarify what position i was applying for and they schedule me for my first interview. The first interview consisted of the usual retail questions (why do you want to work here, what does good customer service mean to you, tell me about your past retail experience). At the end, she asked if I had any questions for her. To show them you're interested, ask them what the typical day is like, can you move up in the company, etc. Before I left, I was schedule to come back on another day for my makeunder interview. The makeunder was very easy going. You have to bring your own model. They do look for your makeup skills but it's more based on how you interact with your model. Choose someone who you can have a conversation with and isn't shy. I was told what look to do, how to sanitize/use the products, and was given clean brushes. The manager didn't hover and watch me but she would pass by and see how I was interacting with my model. I got a call a couple days later saying I was hired and had to come in to do paperwork, etc. The whole process took less than 2 weeks.

    Negotiation

I got the pay that I asked for. Looking back, I wish I'd put down a higher pay just to see how high they were willing to go since I got exactly what I asked for.

I applied in-person. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at Bare Escentuals (Walnut Creek, CA) in December 2013.

    Interview

Apply online or in store (I applied in store). You will receive a call once management has reviewed your application if they are interested. The first interview will consist of personality questions, situational questions, etc. They want to get a feel for the type of person you are and how you might handle customer/client relations. A second interview is more of an audition where you will bring in a model and apply makeup on the person based on a situation management gives you (i.e. Make a day look that can be turned into a night look).

    • How would you deal with a difficult coworker or handle a problem with a coworker?   1 Answer

    Negotiation

No negotiating as it is an entry level position. Non-commissioned with a higher than minimum wage hourly rate.
