Beauty Ambassador Interview

I applied in-person and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Bare Escentuals in May 2013.

Interview Details – I had friends that worked at this particular location so i decided to apply. I originally applied online but my application never received store level. I chose to fill out an application in person and personally deliver it to the manager, this helped. Everyone was very friendly at the store, including the manager. I could tell working there that I would be part of a great team. The interview was both casual and professional. I was asked about some basic beauty and cosmetic knowledge and also mostly about my person to person skill-set. Very pleasant experience overall.

Interview Question – As a male, how do you feel you can represent the company in a conservative state?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I was offered a position at a different job that was full time.

I applied in-person and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

Interview Details – I had two interviews one was just getting to know me, and what knowledge I had with the products, and makeup in general. The next one was a make-under where I brought in a friend, and did a look based on a certain situation, mine was a bridal look, I made sure to really try and "sell" the product, and make sure my client was happy with how the look was coming along after each step.

Interview Question – Why should we hire you, what sets you apart from anyone else?   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

Interview Details – I'd never worked a cosmetics job before but I did have previous retail experience. I filled out an application online and got a call back a few days later saying that they had some questions for me. I was out of town so it took me a day or two to get back to them. She just wanted to clarify what position i was applying for and they schedule me for my first interview. The first interview consisted of the usual retail questions (why do you want to work here, what does good customer service mean to you, tell me about your past retail experience). At the end, she asked if I had any questions for her. To show them you're interested, ask them what the typical day is like, can you move up in the company, etc. Before I left, I was schedule to come back on another day for my makeunder interview. The makeunder was very easy going. You have to bring your own model. They do look for your makeup skills but it's more based on how you interact with your model. Choose someone who you can have a conversation with and isn't shy. I was told what look to do, how to sanitize/use the products, and was given clean brushes. The manager didn't hover and watch me but she would pass by and see how I was interacting with my model. I got a call a couple days later saying I was hired and had to come in to do paperwork, etc. The whole process took less than 2 weeks.

Negotiation Details – I got the pay that I asked for. Looking back, I wish I'd put down a higher pay just to see how high they were willing to go since I got exactly what I asked for.

I applied in-person and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Bare Escentuals in December 2013.

Interview Details – Apply online or in store (I applied in store). You will receive a call once management has reviewed your application if they are interested. The first interview will consist of personality questions, situational questions, etc. They want to get a feel for the type of person you are and how you might handle customer/client relations. A second interview is more of an audition where you will bring in a model and apply makeup on the person based on a situation management gives you (i.e. Make a day look that can be turned into a night look).

Interview Question – How would you deal with a difficult coworker or handle a problem with a coworker?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No negotiating as it is an entry level position. Non-commissioned with a higher than minimum wage hourly rate.

I applied in-person and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

Interview Details – I saw their hot pink "Now hiring" sign and decided I would apply online, they don't do online applications. After picking up my application in person I went back to drop off the application and my resume. I dropped it off with the assistant manager. By the time I got home my husband told me they had called to schedule an interview. I had my interview with the assistant manager followed by my second interview/make-up demo. I stopped by a few days later to touch base in person and the manager was waiting to hear from her district supervisor. A few hours later I received a phone call with a job offer!

Interview Question – The most difficult question for me was when the assistant manager asked me if I could travel unlimited for a year where would I go and what would I do.   View Answer

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

Interview Details – The initial interview was great. I showed up on time and after filling out an application (to go with my resume), I was meeting with a manager 30 minutes later. Team was incredibly nice and enthusiastic. The second interview, the make under, went incredibly well. It got very busy and I was very comfortable talking to guests while applying make up to my model. The manager over seeing the process was also busy but very informative and helpful.

Interview Question – During the make under, the manager had to step away, so when she came back she asked me what techniques I had used to sell everything I had used on my model.   View Answer

I applied in-person and interviewed at Bare Escentuals.

Interview Details – The first step of the hiring and interview process for a part-time position is filling out an application. This can be done online or in a boutique. The management reviews all applications and picks the most qualified on paper to interview. If management is interested in you based on your application then they will call to schedule an interview. The initial interview is very basic. You will be asked questions about yourself, your professional experience, what you know about makeup, and what you know about the brand specifically. The purpose of this initial interview is for the management to get a feel of your personality and find out more about your experience and qualifications. If you pass the initial interview then the manager will set up an audition. The audition requires that you perform a "make under" on one of the other employees. The purpose of the audition is for the manager to see how you interact with clients and to test your artistry skills. If you make it through an audition then you will be hired.

Interview Question – The most difficult part of the interview process was the audition. It was very nerve wracking to put makeup on a manager and have them critique you.   Answer Question

I applied in-person and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Bare Escentuals in February 2012.

Interview Details – I applied as a walk in, and the manager at the time interviewed me on the spot. I was asked questions such as problem solving, customer interactions, basic retail questions. I was not prepared but she was very nice to me, and called me back later that day for a second interview where I would have to bring in a model and go through a make under (what Bare Escentuals calls makeovers). The extremely intimidating District Manager was there, and made both myself and my model uncomfortable. However, I got the job anyway.

Negotiation Details – I took the pay they offered right away, it was $11/hour which is pretty good for part time retail.

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Bare Escentuals in November 2012.

Interview Details – Very unprofessional; was hired on the spot. The hiring manager complained the whole time how hard it was to print out the papers and fax to HR.

Interview Question – Very casual conversation, not an actual interview   Answer Question
