    Front End Engineer Interview

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Bazaarvoice in May 2014.

    Interview Details

I was referred by a friend and applied. The interview process itself was not bad(phone, test, in person) and one person was friendly enough but their ego seemed to get in the way. The in person interview at the company was the most revealing. If you still want to waste your time going through the process with them, the in person interview should have you running far far away and as fast as you can.

    Reasons for Declining

I talked to an employee and friend about the company and the company has problems. No individual growth potential for about 80% of it's employees. The company is not sure where it is headed and a very high turn over rate.

Went through a phone screening, a timed technical test, phone interview, then finally an onsite interview with 3 managers. Everyone I spoke with was awesome and made me feel welcome and although the interview process was lengthy it went smoothly and quickly.

I applied online. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Bazaarvoice in November 2013.

First interaction was a phone interview with a recruiter, very straight forward no difficult or unexpected questions.
Next, was a phone interview with a hiring manager. I was asked mostly behavioral questions about situations I had been in and how I handled them.
I was then given a technical assessment. I worked with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and JQuery. It was straightforward and not too difficult, but it was timed.
Lastly, I was brought in for an on-site. I had multiple back to back interviews and the last interview administered a second technical assessment.

I had a phone interview with HR, nothing techinical quesitons asked. Then HR scheduled a technical phone interview. In 30 minutes, I received a phone from HR, saying that I did well in the phone interview, and they wanted to schedule a onsite interview. They have 6 rounds, with 45 minutes each round. They asked various questions, including coding, sql, behavior questions, etc. The interviewers are nice.

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at Bazaarvoice in October 2012.

Absolutely the best interview process I have been through for a software engineering position. I interviewed as an undergraduate student looking for a full-time position, and I really enjoyed their recruiting process. I flew out for an on-site, where I had several interviews, and all but one were technical in nature. I had lunch with some engineers, and dinner with some managers and a recruiter. Conversation was casual and non-technical in nature, which I appreciated. The employees are all very well-rounded, which is rare in the software industry. After dinner, all the people I had dinners with, managers included, followed up with personal emails. Later in the week, the CTO called me up and made himself available for questions. Overall, I got the impression that they are a great company with a recruiting process that shows how much they value their employees.

    Interview Questions
    • My non-technical interview asked me to explain what Mock Trial (a debate program I'm involved in) is and how it works. I wasn't expecting this from a software engineering interview.   View Answer

Hiring process was pretty good. Interviewing was pretty demanding but it shifts for what position you are interviewing for I'm sure. The HR process has been kind of crazy, but I hear they are working hard at the moment.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a weekinterviewed at Bazaarvoice in June 2012.

    Interview Details

The hiring process for technical positions at Bazaarvoice is fairly straight forward. There is a technical test and if you pass you get an interview. They are extremely protective of the culture at Bazaarvoice, so the face to face seemed much like a personality test. They also grilled me on a few questions from the skills test, but that was more like seeing if I was the one who took the test.

As others have said, it's a process that really tests how much you want the job. If you're excited at the prospect of joining the team at Bazaarvoice, then the process is invigorating and exciting. If not, then I'm sure multiple interviews followed by a presentation is a little daunting. I found the process to be very fair and it gave me the chance to put my best foot forward, vs. most interviews. My .002...look at the presentation part as a new prospect you're trying to land and put in the time needed to distance yourself from the pack.
