Geek Squad, Agent (CIA) Interview

Application Details

I applied online. The process took a weekinterviewed at Best Buy in October 2012.

Interview Details

I applied online for a seasonal sales associate position. I've had only two months in clothing retail and 9 months as a receptionist. There's a long questionnaire afterwards to get a feel of your personality. If you agree or disagree with something, ALWAYS use the STRONGLY AGREE/DISAGREE option. It means you're sure of yourself. I got a call two days later from a hiring manager asking for my availability and what areas I would be interested in working in (Video Games, Cameras, Computers). I waited a few days and never got a call back. I called them and asked to set up an interview (bold of me, I know). They set me up with one the next day.

I was interviewed by the Home Sales Manager. They ask you the usual questions: (Why Best Buy? Describe a time you had to deal with a difficult customer, a time when you had to work with someone you didn't like, a time where you head to be a leader, what would you do if you caught en employee or customer stealing, etc.) They ask these questions off of a packet and take notes, so there will be awkward silences. The manager was very attentive to me and kept good eye contact. He was very relaxed and liked my personality a lot. He said I will be set up with the GM the next day.

The GM asked me the same questions and also wrote notes. He said I seemed "passionate about technology" and that I should be on Geek Squad instead. I wasn't really sure what I would be doing, so I said I'd rather be a sales associate. Luckily a current employee came in and told me to go for the Geek Squad position since they get paid more and don't have to worry about sales. I'm pretty sure the GM was fighting for me to take the position since I'm a girl. Customers at the Solution Center tend to be seniors and women, so he said I would be more approachable. I ended up taking the Geek Squad position. They offered me $10.80/hr and it seemed non-negotiable. I was ecstatic since I was making $7.50 at my previous job.

They will need your size because you get a special uniform, including shoes. I was given paperwork. I had to do a drug test within 24 hours. Once they have your drug test results and background check, they will call you for orientation/training. I was told training for Geek Squad is more extensive than sales associate training and a lot of it is like online classes.

ADVICE: Play up your technological skills and teamwork capabilities. Emphasize your ability to learn new products. Be upbeat to cover up the nervousness.

    Interview Details

I received a call a few days after posting my application online and was asked to have a phone interview. The lady that called me asked me about my availability, whether I applied to any other stores, and so on. After it was done, I was scheduled for an interview that was held two days later. On the day of my one-on-one interview, I was greeted by a Geek Squad manager and was lead to the music room to begin my interview. He gave me paperwork with a list of agreements about the interview and the potential job I was applying for. After glancing through a couple of pages of my online application, he asked me a couple of basic questions. At the end, he described to me that the position I was applying for was full at the moment but the management is seeking potential workers to fill the spot when the current workers are promoted. He also noted that I will receive a call within 30 days if I was selected for the second interview. I was very nervous and tensed up as it was my first job interview but he tried to create a friendly and casual environment to ease me a bit.

    Interview Details

Called me in for an interview at 8AM. I arrived 5 minutes early. Had to stand around for 20-25 minutes because they couldn't find one of the other interviewers in the store. The interview was conducted in a conference room with another interview (completely separate) done just 15 feet away across the table. The interview itself consisted of the interviewer reading basic questions out of a packet. The interviewer left three times in the middle of the interview to go do something in the store.

Interview itself was very easy but the entire process was unprofessional.

This is quite the drawn out process first they will call for a phone interview then they will have you in for an interview with who would be your imadate manager. Then they will call you in for a second time to interview with the store manager. Once you've done all three interviews you should be called within a couple of days saying to come in and fill out some paper work. Once you fill out your paper work you have a background check and a drug test. If you pass both of those your an employee at best buy!

Hiring process is fairly simple. First will be with an HR rep. Second will be with a manager from your prospective department. Communication after application will really depend on how decent a manager your store has.

They negotiated with me because I had a four year college education and I started at what most agents of 2-3 years were making. If you are fresh with no exp you will be starting at whatever base is.

    Interview Details

I applied online and waited for about a week to receive a phone call. I was scheduled for an interview with one of the assistant managers. This interview consisted of a lot of general questions (experience, other jobs, education, certifications, etc.) since they were not part of the Geek Squad. They asked a couple of computer related questions, but I don't think they knew what the answers were anyway. After that interview they said they would decide and call later for a second interview. I was called and scheduled for a second interview with the general manger. They asked more questions that were along the same line as the first, but also included questions about theft and working with others. After that they said they would call if I was selected.

I applied online. The process took a dayinterviewed at Best Buy in July 2011.

    Interview Details

I applied for this job online at certain location and when I got a call from the HR about an interview they sent me to a store that I didn't apply for. This still didn't seem like a problem though because I really wanted a job working around computers. Walking into the store for the interview the employees seemed nice and the work environment seemed like a good one. The managers were a little behind on interview so I had a chance to review my good answers to any question asked. When I met the manager I shook his hand firmly like an person wanting a job should do. I came in and he seemed relaxed at the time. He handed me a paper to sign off on an interview, which I never have seen before but I initialed like I am supposed to do. Then it was down to business with the questions, so upon questioning I remained eye contact with him. During questioning he seemed more nervous than me. He was jumpy and didn't remain eye contact with me and asked me the same question in different wording several times. He asked me questions and to elaborate and I did, but he never marked down my full response. I showed him a CCNA Course completion document and my resume along with my graduation date from school and he looked like he really didn't want someone with this much skills in computers. Bottom line if you are a good computer trouble shooter don't waiste your time this job is more for a sales rep.
