Assistant Buyer/Assistant Planner at Bon-Ton Stores

No Offer – Interviewed in Milwaukee, WI Nov 2009 – Reviewed Mar 24, 2010

Interview Details – I had a campus interview, and then was selected for a 2nd round interview, which took place 2-3 weeks later. The 2nd interview consisted of presentations about the company/positions and then each person had hour long interviews with 3 different people in the company. Overall, the interviews weren't too difficult.

Interview Question – something along these lines... Give me an example of a specific occasion in which you conformed to a policy with which you did not agree?   Answer Question

Planner/Buyer at Bon-Ton Stores

Declined Offer – Interviewed in Nov 2011 – Reviewed Dec 3, 2011

Interview Details – I submitted my resume through my university's career website. There was a 1:1 on campus interview that was fairly straight forward. I was asked to explain how I decided what to major in and why I wanted to be a fashion buy or planner. Most of the questions were situation based, but fairly simple. Be sure to appear incredibly enthusiastic about the job. Prior week experience in retail or customer service is helpful.

The on site section consisted of 4 one on one interviews. There was a detailed presentation before the interview about the different positions.

Interview Questions

  • Why are you interested in working with the fashion industry? Why do you want to be a buyer or planner?   Answer Question
  • Describe a negative customer service experience?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – The salary was not very high for this position. Bon Ton is also a relatively small company and there aren't many opportunities to work outside of Milwaukee.
