Initially picked up via a 3rd party recruitment firm. Submitted CV and covering letter for specific BCG team (IVI Taskforce). Attended first round interview at which I met two BCG employees, one specifically from IVI team and one more senior general strategist. Both interviews had all the standard cultural fit and CV exploration. Both had a case study element, one relating to to a Swiss bank looking to reduce costs.

    Interview Questions
    • Maths elements of both case studies were quite complex and you were invited to ask questions or clarify. However interviewer sat right next to you which was slightly off-putting.   Answer Question

Referred internally, called in for two first round interviews a week or so later. The interviewers were extremely personable during the introductions and behavioral questions. When we got into the cases, I stumbled a bit, but they tactfully urged me in the right direction. I knew I wasn't going to get called back for second rounds after bungling one of the cases, but they spared me a lot of embarrassment and then gave me constructive feedback afterwards.

    Interview Questions
    • When one interviewer saw that I was writing out the math, he asked me to do specific calculations in my head, without pen and paper. Being put on the spot made it very difficult.   View Answer

Interviewed at the BCG office in Philadelphia. Interviewers were very professional, nice, and encouraging. I enjoyed the experience. I kind of bungled the first interview a bit which is why I think I didn't make it to the second round.

    Interview Questions
    • Tough case on airplane company. Lots of synthesis required in terms of charts and data; the math was fine, just being able to keep the information together was a bit difficult.   Answer Question

    Summer Associate Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Boston Consulting Group in January 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied through my college, so the process was relatively straightforward. After about a week, I received an invitation to first-round interviews. The interview process is exactly what you should expect from consulting. BCG favors more interviewee-led interviews, so definitely be prepared to drive your case from beginning to end.

    Interview Questions
    • One of the cases opened with a description that profits were down, but revenue was slightly up and costs were stable. It was an overly misleading description by the interviewer. He meant that cost/item was stable, and that overall costs increased, but it was terribly unclear even after clarifying questions.   View Answer

    Summer Intern Interview

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Boston Consulting Group in January 2014.

    Interview Details

I first applied online and was contacted about a week later letting me know that I had been approved for the first round. I had a great experience in that first round interview. The front desk was warm and helpful, they had brought many full time staff to the event to answer questions, make everyone feel comfortable, and in general keep conversation going. The first day had two interviews which went very well. Both of those first day interviews were basic 45 minute interviews with the second half reserved for a case study. A few days later I was contacted by both associated with whom I spoke and they talked me through everything I could improve on. This was a great experience and I really felt like they cared about helping me. I made it to the second round and enjoyed a wonderful dinner with all the other potential interns the day before. The next day, the 2 interviews were of the same format but with much more senior employees. Unfortunately, I did not perform to my normal standards and was informed the next day that I was not selected. No hard feelings, I know I didn't deserve it based on my interview, and I will be back next year.

    Interview Questions
    • I am not allowed to disclose the business case, but the case that caught me off guard was completely verbal and given as if the partner was making it up off the top of his head. That threw me for a loop, but it did seem to be a normal case.   Answer Question

I applied for the summer associate in greater China area and got an interview in their Chicago office. There is only one round with three separate case interviews. One is in Chinese, the other two are in English. The first case is about online game companies, the second one is a market sizing problem, and the third one is about a plant growing some stuff for pharmaceutical companies.
