Sales Associate/Cashier Interview

Application Details

I applied online – interviewed at Burlington Coat Factory in November 2012.

Interview Details

I filled out the application and received a phone call for an interview a few days later. I went to the interview - typical interview questions with one that threw me off. Sadly, I can't remember what it was. Anyways: The manager was very nice and said I would receive a phone call after a week - I never did, but I'm not surprised because Home Depot did the same thing to me.

I applied online. The process took 5 daysinterviewed at Burlington Coat Factory in June 2013.

    Interview Details

I received the call to come in for an interview about two days after filling out the application online. The actual interview lasted ten minutes - at most. The first couple of minutes were about my availability; he told me he was looking for somebody that was available indefinitely on book weekdays and weekends. Then, he read off a list of about 6-8 questions of the "Tell me about a time when..." format. He listened pretty carefully to my answers and responded to me before taking a minute to write them down. Sometimes, he would read the question and say something like "well, you kind of covered that situation in your other answer...", so he would just skip it. At the end of the list of questions, he told me that he would like to offer me a position, but I had to authorize a background check and it had to come back clear first. He sent me the email that afternoon, and hired me the very next day.

    Interview Questions
    • They were pretty straight forward questions. "Tell me about a time you made a mistake with a customer, and how you handled it." type of question.   Answer Question

The interview was great. The manager and assistant manager were down to earth, kind, open, and asked questions that related to the job and your overall performance. Tell me about yourself. How do you deal with an irate customer? Name a time when you received great customer service. What motivates you? Very simple an easy conversation. Be yourself, remain calm.
