Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Eatontown, NJ May 2008 – Reviewed Oct 1, 2012
Interview Details –
Initial phone interview that became two in-office interviews. The questions were fairly simple. They then, wanted me to practice cold-calling in a separate room to see how I would act under pressure.
Then before we actually had the job, there was a 2-week training course in which we all had to pass.
Negotiation Details – It was my first job, so I took their offer.

Interview Details – The first step in their process is a phone interview. A recruiter will call you and talk to you for 45 – 60 minutes. I spoke with a girl who was very nice and she stayed in contacted via email throughout the whole process. If you pass the first stage they will set up a face to face interview with you. I went to my face to face interview it lasted about half an hour. They really put you on the spot. It’s called “behavioral interviewing”, I think they called it. They are not asking questions about your education, skills, or experience. Instead they want you to give very specific example of times you have done this or that. I have been asked to do this before but normally on a personality test or something like that before an interview. Never had I had to answer those types of questions in such specific detail on the spot in a job interview.

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Chicago, IL Jan 2012 – Reviewed May 3, 2012
Interview Details – The interview process began and ended within a two month process from application submission to acceptance of the job offer. I was informed that CDW was hiring and was instructed on how to apply online. I recieved a call from the HR department shortly thereafter and was instructed on what would be covered on my phone interview the next week and what I should do to prepare. The phone interview was fairly detailed and encouraged creative responses to challenging scenarios. After the phone interview was deemed satisfactory, a follow up 1 on 1 interview with a hiring manager was coordinated. That interview was much like the phone interview however the hiring manager is looking for creative responses that show a well prepared interviewer who has a firm understanding on what the company does and what is expected of the position (information that was provided by the HR recruiter who conducted the phone interview). In the 1 on 1 interview the hiring manager wants to see the candidates personality come out and make a connection with the hiring manager. Most times an offer is issued right at the end of the interview.
Interview Question – How would I handle a situation in which I am on the phone with a customer who does regular business with me, when a customer who I have been trying to reach unsuccesfully calls me? Answer Question
Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation for this position

Interview Details –
I applied through their website after seeing the job posting on my University job board. I was called for a phone interview the next day. The phone interview lasted 1 hour. At the end of the call I was asked to come in asap to meet with the person who would be my manager. I then met with the manager who I really really liked.
The HR person came back to go over the benefits package. Since it wasn't my first offer I asked for time to consider the offer. I was told that I could take a week but the start date would be 10 days out because they have a 6 week training period where they train groups all at once. During our phone interview he had mentioned another start date that would have been more than a month away but that was no longer on the table. I think that maybe the later start date would have been under another manager and that's why it wasn't part of what was available anymore.
The cubicles are really big. There are lots of prizes and free food but the pay for the first two years is the worst. I was also told that to get close to 6 figures in year 4 it would require working 10 to 12 hour days for the first year.
Interview Question – Tell me about a time when you had to overcome an objection. Answer Question
Reason for Declining – Hours too long for low earnings initially.
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Chicago, IL Jan 2012 – Reviewed Feb 18, 2012
Interview Details – Pretty standard interview process for a sales position. Job entails making 85-100 cold calls a day. 100% inside sales. There is no physical person-to-person sales at all. Base Salary is $25,000 and 10% commission. Very nice people, but this was just not what I was looking for.
Interview Question – Give a detailed example of a time your previous employer disagreed with your idea? Why? What did you do? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – I have zero interest in sitting in an office all day on the phone making cold calls. I would much rather be out in the field doing personal sales.
Declined Offer – Interviewed in Mettawa, IL Oct 2011 – Reviewed Feb 10, 2012
Interview Details –
The hiring process was ridiculously rushed. I was interviewed by phone and after a day I got a call back telling me that if I wanted to be considered for the job, I had to do an onsite interview within 4 days. (I got that call on a Wednesday night). I went to the interview got an offer a day later.
But then, I get told by the recruiter. "Oh, and if you want the job you have to start Monday." This was during a phone call on the Friday night before.
Right there I declined the offer. They have no sense of courtesy towards the people they interview and have no respect for people's time.
Interview Question – You have a customer that ordered a printer of a certain brand and model, but we don't have the printer in stock. What do you do in order to 1) not loose the sale 2) give the customer what he wants? Answer Question
Reason for Declining – I was given a few days notice of a MANDATORY starting date. If I couldn't make their starting date, I wouldn't be hired. So I told NO.
No Offer – Interviewed in Lake Forest, IL Jan 2012 – Reviewed Jan 20, 2012
Interview Details – All I have to say is, if you have any type of sales experience at all and are NOT right out of college then RUN. Dont walk RUN and or dont even bother to attempt to get a job here. There base is 25k a year and you are required to cold call all day long hoping to land some accounts. The manager that hired me basically did the worst interview I have ever had. Could of chatted with him over the phone rather than waste my time going in to talk with him. This job should of been a slam dunk.......I have over 5 years of sales experience but I felt that during the interview that this manager wanted nothing to do with someone with actual experience!! Got the over qualified look plenty of times. Basically I think CDW likes to hire people to train from the ground up so they arent scared of someone with experience coming in and taking their job. Just my opionion.....
Interview Question –
Why do you want to work at CDW?
Really, this was the hardest question during my interview! Kinda comical. The rest was all small talk
