I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Capital One in February 2014.

Interview Details – Applied on their website, phone screened by recruiter with 5 easy math questions.

Then was invited for an on-site interview with 2 case interviews and 2 behavioral interviews.

Behavioral questions are(they are allowed to be taken out, and I had them written down on paper, so these questions are exact):
tell me a time when
1. you called on an expert for their expertise
2. successfully avoided an obstacle to deliver a project on time
3. learnt something new to accomplish a project
4. had to turn a general goal to a realistic plan
5. responsible for implementing a new project/process. better use an example that involved someone else
6. had to take significant risk to sell an idea when others did not see the potential of the idea

Case questions are(the notes are not allowed to be taken out, but ok if by memory):
1. Capital One is working with a department store on a credit card. Initial opening bonus paid to store, interest cost, annual fee etc. are given on a piece of paper. You'll need to calc the profit. And it's not profitable. So what's the BEP of opening bonus? What if we want to have a progressive opening bonus based on accounts opened? What's the curve of profit against accounts opened? Where's the highest point and how much?

2. You are CEO of a satellite TV company by the time when it's unpopular. What's the advantage and risk for this situation? Then you're given estimated revenue and cost(variable and fixed). Calc profitability. There are 2 ways to increase profit, 1 is to offer more free months and attract more customer, 1 is to reduce fixed cost but might reduce customer. Which is optimal? Where does the reduced customer and original proposal breakeven?

Then when they decided to give you an offer, you'll be arranged to be called by the director of the department you'll be assigned to.

Very much thank to the 998 Glassdoor interview reviews when I was preparing the interview. I've read 600+ of them, all about Analysts and even some of Tellers and Managers, Directors interviews. Get yourself familiar with the cases here, none of actual cases will be from what you read but they all give you a sense of what it would be like so that you won't panic, that you won't fail on junior high school maths and basic economic logic. Prepare behavior questions accordingly and actual questions will be very similar. And even if they are quite different, be flexible and use your examples accordingly, emphasize the characters asked in the actual question, NOT WHAT YOU PREPARED.

I read 600+ of the 1000 reviews here and I rated the interview to be easy. If you believe me and thought the interview will be easy, HAVE YOU DONE WHAT I'VE DONE?

Good luck! See you in Capital One!

Interview Question – Prepare 6-7 situations for behavioral questions and be flexible if they questions is not asked in the way as you are prepared. Try to find the character they asked from your prepared examples. Cases are easy, if you make mistake and feel your answer is awkward, ask for help and modify your calc. I did make a mistake. It was a typo carried to next step's calc. And I found out and asked for help, and found out what's wrong with the formula I wrote.   View Answers (2)

Negotiation Details – I did try to negotiate but frankly speaking, the salary is fair for the location I am placed. I had orally accepted the offer and is in process of signing and background check. If you want a life-time company, and/or a graduate company, here it goes.

I applied online - interviewed at Capital One in May 2014.

Interview Details – I read about all the case interviews I can find before the interview. You shouldn't have any problems with them if you gather all the information you can get from Glassdoor and other websites. I think I did OK in the case interviews, but what impressed the interviewers were the behavior questions I prepared. They were trying to match your experience with their real situation work. So if you read all the case interviews online, you can get a general idea of what this position does in the company. And when you do prepare for the behavior questions, you should try to make them similar to the case interviews you read. So give them what they are looking for and make them believe that you can fill the role with former experience and knowledge. Try to be confident and don't panic. Casers are very friendly and there to help you when you need it. Good luck.

Interview Question – The interviews last about 4 hours. Very exhausted.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Haven't really decided to go or not. Doesn't have the option.

I applied through college or university and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Capital One in September 2013.

Interview Details – Applied through college, got an interview date with them. In the interview they will ask you to do a case study. Nothing to be afraid of they will help you with the information and they might droop hints as to how to tackle it. Try to speak through your process as it helps them understand and as well as help you work through the problem. The question that they asked was if Capital One and your school wanted to do a venture together with credit cards (then he gave you some numbers) calculate the profit.

Interview Question – The case study for the first interview is not that hard, the ones for the final round is. The final round consist of 3 case studies and a behavioral interview.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Capital One in February 2014.

Interview Details – First met during on grounds Career Fair. Had a first round interview with a simple math based case that revolved around calculating the per day profit from an account given the current balance and various rates (interest rates, reserve requirements). Heard back within a week that I had been selected to go to one of their "Power Days" in Richmond. The Power Day consisted of two math based cases and one behavioral interview. The case interviewers were very helpful in guiding you through the cases. Power Day was on a Friday and I received an offer on Monday.

Interview Question – The cases and behavioral questions were very straight forward. They actually gave a list of sample behavioral questions to the interviewees the day before and then drew from that list.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation salary wise, but they did ask me for my location preference.

I applied through a recruiter and interviewed at Capital One.

Interview Details – Contacted by a recruiter. First round phone interview was easy, 5 simple math questions, algebra and such. Invited to Richmond for the second round interview. two behavioral interviews and two case interviews.

One case interview was about a call center. they showed you a table about how many minutes per call they got for customer service from Monday to Sunday and how many calls they got each day. asked about the average minutes per call. then they told you there are two types of calls: one type is the representative can solve immediately, the other type is the call has to be transferred to another person. they told you the percentage of each type and the cost of each call per minute. they told you type ii is more expensive because it takes longer time. now they want to cut costs by $1 million. how much is the percentage of type ii calls should be.

second case interview was about atm. they want you to know how atms make profit. by charging customers from other banks. two types of atms again. one they put at their branches. other they put elsewhere. they told you the costs of two types. type ii is more expensive to operate but can make profit. they want you to calculate break even points. then ask you to draw a plot. don't remember details.

Interview Question – be careful about the details when you do math (units and such).   Answer Question

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Capital One in March 2014.

Interview Details – Had 2 case interviews and 2 behavior interviews:

For behavior interviews: looks like they have a standard list . please read thru BI interview post in glass door. I had to answer about 5 BI questions and they all are available in these interview reviews.

However I felt more emphasis in on case Interviews and problem solving skills of the person being interviewed.

1. 1 case interview was based on basic profit equation. profits= revenues- costs. case was based on credit card scenario. credit card user population is divided in to two groups. for group 1 I was given all numbers and asked to calculate profit per year. For the second part i was asked to calculate the how much a different group has to spend to generate the same amount of profit. we need to make some assumptions here. I made some mistakes and the interviewer help me thru the case.

2. second case was interview was based on a campaign and calculating the benefits of campaign. Interviewer asked me how I would calculate the profits related to campaign. he was expecting an answer like " I would have a target and control group and based on the difference in the increase in revenue before and after the campaign I can tell what % of the increase in revenue is due to the campaign". something like that.

Interview Question – my second case interview where I has to calculate the increase in revenue from campaign   View Answer
