Interview Details – I saw the posting on my University's Career site, I then sent a follow up email to the recruiter. She then let me know in that she wanted to have a phone case style interview. (about a week)

I had the phone case style interview. The interviewer was very nice and reassuring over the phone. He asked me about paperless banking. First he asked how we would get more customers to join paperless billing. We then talked about incentives. If we send out 100,000 emails. two plans 1. 50,000 20% response rate and $4 credit and 2. 50,000 30% $10 credit.
we save lifetime $12 on people the switch how much do we make.
I was then asked to calculate the break even response rate for the $10 credit email.

Interview Question – They sent me a rejection email but I never got it. I followed up with the recruiter and she was like. Oh I sent you a rejection email. You never go it?   Answer Question

Operations Analyst at Capital One

No Offer – Reviewed Mar 3, 2013

Interview Details – The first interview was a case interview. The manager interviewing me had a background in engineering so I feel like we approached the problem in completely different ways. He seemed to me like a huge bully and was very short with me if I proposed a solution he didn't like. Creativity was not what he was looking for at all. The way he presented the problem and phrased questions was completely confusing to me. When I was asking further questions about the position his answers made me feel like he didn't want me there and was trying to discourage me from continuing in the process.

Operations Analyst at Capital One

No Offer – Reviewed Feb 22, 2013

Interview Details – Had to complete online process first, involving math and technical questions. After that, was invited for an on campus case interview. The question was not too challenging but they are just trying to figure out how you think. Made it to the next round and they flew me out to South Carolina. Went through a power day of three case interviews and a behavioral interview.

Interview Question – The most difficult question asked was a case that involved many different credit card rates. Each new part of the problem introduced changed all of the previous steps so it was difficult to keep track of.   Answer Question

Operations Analyst Manager at Capital One

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Nov 2012 – Reviewed Dec 10, 2012

Interview Details – Was contacted by a recruiter via LinkedIn about a Business Analysis Manager position. I responded to the email and set up a phone conversation for the same day. Initial conversation with the recruiter took about 15 minutes with general background questions for me and gauging my interest in the position. He spent most of the time talking about how great Capital One is. After the conversation, I was instructed to go the company's website and formally apply for the position. Within a day I received an email about the testing process.

I spent a couple afternoon/evenings preparing for the exam. The materials (websites) they provide you with should be enough to get you up to speed on the type of questions they ask. The sample tests, in my opinion, were much harder than the actual tests. I found myself running out of time on the sample tests, but cruised through the actual tests online. After completing verbal and math sections, there is a personality test that is pretty long. After completing the tests, the recruiter emailed me to let me know I passed and we set up the interviews in Richmond for a couple weeks later. One thing that bothered me a little bit...he initially approached me about a Business Analysis Manager position, but I was confirmed to interview for the Operations Analyst Manager position. When asked about it the recruiter said that I was a better fit for that role, but I felt like it was sort of a bait-and-switch situation. The roles were similar enough in terms of what I was looking for, so I went ahead with the operations interview.

Interviews were on their campus in Richmond, VA. There seemed to be about 30 people interviewing that day, with people shuffling in and out of the interview area. The Ops Analyst candidates were separated from the other candidates and handled by a separate recruiter. Interviews consisted of 2 case and 2 fit. The fit interviews were very basic...3 "Tell me about a time you..." questions. The case interviews were tough, but I thought I did pretty well. It really is a race against the clock...the cases are designed to go the entire 45 minutes. Both of my cases had to do with some aspect of credit cards. One thing to note is that the case interviews were administered by analysts while the fit interviews were conducted by people in other parts of the business who, to be honest, seemed a little more personable.

After interviewing, they treat you to lunch and a tour of the facility. All of the operations analyst candidates went to lunch together with a 2nd year analyst as the host. I was interviewing for a Manager position and was hoping to go to lunch with somebody a little more senior who could answer some of the questions I had. After the tour, they brought everyone back to the interviewing area where most of us were dismissed while a couple people stayed (I believe) for another case.

I was told that I would receive word the following week, but I never did. After reaching out to the recruiter a couple weeks later, he sent me an email letting me know that I was not recommended for employment and he apologized because he thought he had sent out the email....very professional of him!!! The fact that they give you bad news by email is rude and impersonal...they also don't give you any concrete feedback which also stinks.

Interview Question – Nothing really difficult or unexpected...but you need to move through the cases at a pretty good rate to complete them.   Answer Question

Operations Analyst at Capital One

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA May 2012 – Reviewed Oct 25, 2012

Interview Details – I applied through campus recruiting and was brought in for an on-campus case interview. This was followed by 2 online assessments - one behavioral and one quantitative. After these, I was invited for an on-site interview with some other OA candidates. We had 2 case interviews and 1 behavioral interview before lunch, and then a small handful of people, including myself, were kept after lunch for an additional case. I found out within a week that had received an offer.

Interview Question – I was super nervous for the case interviews, but unexpectedly, the behavioral interview threw me off more than the cases.

Name a time when you had to convince someone to do something that they did not want to do. (something along those lines)
