Summer Business Analyst at Capital One

No Offer – Reviewed Mar 14, 2013

Interview Details – First round telephone interview. Calculate profitability of an advertising campaign. Conceptually very easy, few math mistakes. Sales data was given for a 2 month interval - be careful with units. No fit component to the interview at all. Interviewer was very friendly. With telephone interviews I think it is important to speak your math steps out loud as you go.

Summer Business Analyst at Capital One

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Dec 2011 – Reviewed Feb 13, 2012

Interview Details – The first round was an easy case interview, 2nd round was online tests, and the 3rd round consisted of 3 in-person interviews at their office in Richmond. One was behavioral and 2 were case. The case interviews were definitely more challenging than in the first round. I am not allowed to describe the case problem, but they were quantitative in nature, not mind benders such as "Why are manhole covers round?
The people who interviewed were very nice and courteous. After the interviews, we got a free lunch and a tour of the building.

Interview Question – Solve a case question in which you are merging two firms. With new acquisition, are you losing or saving money? Can you identify ways to save the firm money?   Answer Question

It was a case about comparing two industries and which one to target, followed by some calculations. There was a calculator available for use. The interviewer was super nice and guided me through some tough spots.

Interview Question – Which industry should we offer our services to?   Answer Question
