Senior Operations Analyst at Capital One

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Aug 2011 – Reviewed Aug 31, 2011

Interview Details – Applied through university posting. Worked with helpful recruiter who coached through the online tests (work style, quant, verbal) and on-site interviews. CO has the process down cold: travel agency books flights/drivers/hotel, you just show up at your home airport the day before, fly, get shuttled to your hotel, to the campus the next morning, through the whole process, and get dropped off at the airport again. A quick 18-24 hours total.

The interviews were two behavioral, two case, group lunch, and possible interview after lunch based on remaining questions. The company stresses risk averse, ethical banking, and a collaborative, meritocracy, non-hierarchical, workforce. They want people who WANT to be there (many I spoke to have been there 10+ years), and even have on-site career counselors to help you find other positions or even outside jobs if you are not happy. Friendly place and people, beautiful sprawling campus in upscale suburb. They are rapidly expanding on the retail banking side with a goal of becoming a top five bank in the US, and I heard they are hiring THOUSANDS in the next few months. Good luck...

  • CASE: Recovering Written-off Past Due Balances
6 months past due, avg $2000 balance, 15% pay in full, profitable? If introduce settlement option for 60% of balance, 10% pay settlement but 5% of them dont pay in full, better choice? With new model, now 9% pay in full, but with settlement option now 10% take settlement but a third of original payers dont pay in full, better? etc. (poorly worded and confusing case. unhelpful vague interviewer, arggg, cost me the job).

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Aug 2011 – Reviewed Sep 6, 2011

Interview Details – Applied for position listed on career website. Next day heard back from recruiter requesting that i complete assessment. It was basically like the GMAT. I passed that and was contacted to come in for a "Power Day" where I interveiw with 3 people. One interview was a behavioral interview and the other two were case study's. I did well on the behavioral and one case interview. Messed up the final case stupidly. That was it. Informed within 5 days that I would not continue on with the process.

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Aug 2011 – Reviewed Aug 22, 2011

Interview Details – First, HR did phone screening. Then took 3 (Numerical reasoning, verbal reasoning, behavioral )tests online. Then scheduled for on-site interviews that consist of 2 behavioral interviews and 2 case interviews. Case interviews are little bit tough. I have been told that results will be known in 3 to 5 days. I have not received any response for 5 days. I contacted the recruiter and she told I have not been selected. It looks like case interview is the most important thing in decision making.

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Jun 2011 – Reviewed Jul 22, 2011

Interview Details – The process took around 3 weeks. A HR contacted me and asked questions for general information. Then, she sent a couple of emails, which include instructions and the link of online test. As described by others, the online test has two parts, numeric test and verbal test. The numeric test is pretty difficulty mainly because of the ticking clock at the top of screen. The verbal test is much easier. Overall, the test is like GRE/GMAT.
On the same day, the HR sent another email and notified me that I passed the test.

The onsite interview was scheduled after two weeks. The arrangement was very professional. There was cab service picking at the airport, hotel and office campus.

There were four section in the interview, two for behavior questions and two for case study. The behavior questions were quite dummy. The case interview was difficult. Basic knowledge about finance is required to understand the questions.

No Offer – Interviewed in Plano, TX Jul 2011 – Reviewed Jul 14, 2011

Interview Details – I Applied Online and received a phone call from a recruiting cordinator inviting me for an online assessment which I passed the same day. The following day I received a call from a recruiter inviting me for an onsite interview in Plano, TX. I was flown in really lookd after as I was put up in a nice and contemporary hotel across from the campus.

The day of the interview, I discovered that there were about 10 other individuals interviewing as well. The onsite interview consisted of a behavioral interview and 2 case studies. Behavioral interview consusted of 3 questions and then there was enought time foor me to have informal discussion.

The Case interviews were a little more intense than I expected. Both were related to Credit Card industry. The first was about finding profit based on variable APRs ( PROFIT = REVENUE-COST) . Make sure to think out loud and let the interviewer see your approach. Second Case Interview was about calculating the break even based on probability of good and bad credit applications.

My advice is to have few examples ready for beahviorial interview and brush up on basic algerbaic and probability formulas. Best of Luck!

Interview Details – Submitted my resume online, received a response asking me to complete an assessment test. As a result i qualified for the final round of interviews where they flew me out to Richmond, VA. There in the evening I got the opportunity to meet some of the current employees, we had a few drinks and had a chance to ask them any questions that we had. Next day I had to get up early for three interviews, which consisted of one behavioral and two case interviews. While case interviews are not difficult make sure to catch up on simple algebra.

Declined Offer – Interviewed in McLean, VA May 2011 – Reviewed Jun 15, 2011

Interview Details – First round was the telephone screen by HR. It was just about the resume.
Second round was five interviews at their Richmond office. They fly you and put you in a nice hotel. The process was really comfortable. Second round consists of three case and two behavioral interviews. Cases were not traditional cases. They were analytical and based on cards business entirely. The final round case was really hard.

Interview Question – Case based on Credit Cards. Mostly driven by probabilities and expected value.   View Answer

Reason for Declining – Opportunity for career growth seemed low

No Offer – Interviewed in Richmond, VA Apr 2011 – Reviewed Jun 10, 2011

Interview Details – The interview process at capital One was fairly involved. First there was an online application portion which was relatively easy. just the normal resume cover letter stuff. Then if you got past that portion you had to do online tests for personality and quantitative skills. finally if that went well you had a face to face on campus interview. If all the prior steps went well then you would move on to be interviewed in richmond virginia. This this consisted of a day long interview on their campus. which essentially was 5 seperate inverviews with 5 seperate people.

Interview Question – What would you say is your greatest weakness?   Answer Question

Interview Details – The online test was straight forward, with a section with behavioral questions and one with GMAT type verbal and quantitative questions.

The on site interview was more challenging. There were two behavioral interviews and two case interviews. The case interviews were challenging and relevant to Capital One's card business. Overall, it was a positive experience.
