Hostess/Front Desk Interview (Neutral Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at Cheesecake Factory in December 2012.
Interview Details – I applied online, then one of the managers called me to set up an interview. The first interview was a one on one with one of the managers and the next interview was with the GM.
Very Easy Interview
Hostess/Front Desk Interview (Neutral Experience; Very Easy Interview)
The process took 1 week - interviewed at Cheesecake Factory in May 2010.
Interview Details – Started with a room of 50 people all filling out an application, and people just kept coming and going. If you got called in you interviewed with several managers before interviewing with the general manager. Do what you would do for any interview, dress professionally and because this is a hospitality job, be friendly and big smile.
Interview Question – Do you wear your seatbelt? View Answer
Negotiation Details – It was alright, they made it clear that they would rather hire under qualified people for less than hire me for more than they were offering. To be fair I was the highest paid host.
Hostess/Front Desk Interview (Neutral Experience; Easy Interview)
I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at Cheesecake Factory in July 2011.
Interview Details – Simple basic interview with a manager and then he got his GM.
Hostess/Front Desks Interview (Negative Experience; Difficult Interview)
I applied in-person and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Cheesecake Factory in February 2011.
Interview Details – I initially walked in to apply, I was told to immediately come in for a time alotted for interviews. Around 2pm in the afternoon. I arrived 10 minutes early, I waited literally 4 hours for the interview because the hostesses in the front had not placed the applications in order. It was not a minimum wage worth waiting for, but I persisted. I interviewed with the assistant manager who was a woman, she was very warm and friendly. She asked 2 questions then asked me to come in for a personality test. She seemed exhausted by all the interviews but was willing to give me a chance.
The next week I came in for the personality test, I interviewed with a young man who was probably in charge of the espresso/bakery bar. He was also very nice and always had a smile on. During the personality test I would honestly admit I was unprepared for it. It was an oral test consisting of several pages of questions from rating yourself, how would you describe yourself and basic interview questions. At the end, he offered me to meet with the General manager.
I had thought by now I had gotten the job since I went through already two interviews. But when I met up with the General Manager he seemed very disinterested. I arrived again early during the slow hours, but somehow, I had to wait for an hour for him. He came over, we shook hands, he asked me if I had eaten here before. My advice to future applicants is come prepared. The entire interview he was cold and very distant unlike my previous interviews. He barely smiled and I felt like I was being stared down. He told me he would give me a callback, and I never got the call back.
Hostess/Front Desk Interview (Positive Experience; Average Interview)
I applied online and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Cheesecake Factory.
Interview Details – They were opening up a new place, I applied online and had my first interview (there were two total) about a week after. It was a pretty standard restaurant interview. Questions like, "what will you add to our company, tell me about yourself, etc."
Interview Question – Tell me something you've learned today. Answer Question
Negotiation Details – I didn't negotiate, but definitely could have. Some people got paid more than others based off their experience.
