First Vice President, Business Development Interview

First Vice President, Business Development
New York, NY

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 8 weeks - interviewed at Citi in May 2009.

Interview Details – The environment during interviews was as expected - very blue suit, red tie, financial servicves atmosphere. Polished executives, serious conversation and quick paced. The culture seemed more friendly than some brokerage firms, especially given the many I know in NYC, but still it was very much a company about investments and advisory services, and very serious, focused and specific in approach to any topic.

Interview Question – One difficult question was regarding the changing marketplace and how advisors are moving from commmissions to fee-based compensation. It was not fair to ask this so soon in the conversation (in 2 out of 5 interviews) when you have not built up to it, and when it really cannot be covered well in a 30 to 45 minute conversation where you also need to cover other things.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – I negotiated. And it was reasonable, with the process proceeding like a negotiation should - 3 back -n-forth's,, a small sign on bonus, etc. Very professional and polite HR team in addition to the hiring manager.
