Difficult Interview

Junior Accountant Interview

Junior Accountant
New York, NY

I applied online and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Con Edison of New York in January 2014.

Interview Details – Took approximately 3 months and consisted of an accounting knowlege exam, practical exam in typing for speed and accuracy, as well as a practical in Excel. The most difficult part was the interview.

Interview Question – The BEI interview was difficult as I was not prepared for it and being under the normal pressure of an interview had trouble thinking of examples to express my skills in the way they asked. Be prepared to give examples of leadership, problem solving, and working with deadlines.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 5 months - interviewed at Con Edison of New York in March 2013.

Interview Details – First of all, was given the wrong address but was able to figure out where to go. A security guard at the gate was unaware of me having an interview and refused to let me in or call. A manager who was supposed to interview me could not be reached by phone. I waited outside for an hour to get a call back and to be escorted to the office. The interview itself was pretty much a standard one with general questions. In my opinion it went quite well especially because of my background/experience in management working for an energy company. I tried to follow up a few times and last time I spoke with a section manager she got annoyed of me calling back. Needless to say I never heard from them. One year after that I checked ConEd website and found the same job posted there. A few other jobs I found there in 2013 were posted again in 2014 so I am not sure if they rehire annually or those are "fake" jobs. Personally, this was a very bad experience for me.

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Con Edison of New York.

Interview Details – You take an aptitude test via computer for whatever position you are applying for. My test was all basic accounting and if you dont know when to debit and when to credit then just stay home.

Interview Question – The questions are very straightforward situation questions where they ask you how you would handle a scenario in which... I blew a question relating to grey areas in work rules regarding working unpaid overtime. I told I had done this on occasion in hopes the manager would give me a favorable recommendation.   View Answer

I applied through college or university and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Con Edison of New York in January 2013.

Interview Details – Behavioral interview over the phone that was about 30 minutes. Actual interview at the New York office. Most of the interview was technical, with a lot of emphasis on project planning. The in office interview consisted of two interviewers that alternated asking questions. One would ask the question the other take notes.

Interview Question – If you were asked to get the average number of customers in a bank over the course of the week how would you do it? You cannot talk to any of the customers, you only have 30 minutes at the bank to figure out the average.   View Answer
