    Assistant Manager Interview

I applied online – interviewed at DSW.

I'll echo a few of the reviews on here already. Very disorganized and the experience left me with a negative view of the company. 5 interviews for 2 separate assistant positions. I will say that the store managers I met with were all very nice and knowlegeable. The district manager in one case, not so much. I've never actually been offended in an interview until DSW. First, she was 25 minutes late for a phone interview. In the end, I was as unimpressed by her as she was with me.

I took both time off and a step back in my career for a few years to raise my children when they were young. I was very honest about this. I did not feel that a company that prides itself on work/life balance would have an issue with that decision. I went from a store manager to a merchandising coordinator in a better company. I then took a few years off. The district manager asked me, "Why would you ever think that was a good move?" I was asked the exact same questions by the DM that I was already asked by the store managers. At the end of the interview, I asked when the company would be making a decision. The answer was, "Probably sometime in January." This was in December. Never heard a word or even got so much as a rejection email.

A second DSW store called in the meantime. Much better experience and the DM actually took the time to meet with me personally. I felt the interview went well and spoke with both the store manager and the DM for well over an hour. Honestly, by the end of the conversation, I felt like I had the job. At least in this case, they sent the rejection email within a week. However, after 2 rejections, I did want to find out if there was something specific about my resume or my verbal interview that resulted in the company going with another candidate. I left 2 messages for the store manager. I did not get the courtesy of a return phone call.

In both cases, not a single phone call was made to check a reference or to contact my current employer. I'll say the same thing as another candidate on here - I certainly don't expect to get every job I interview for, but when a candidate gives you their time and their energy, you should at least be willing to have the difficult conversation, even when it's awkward and uncomfortable.

Was a good Interview. You are on a game show. There are three doors, behind one of which is a prize and the other two is a chunk of coal, and the host knows which door holds the prize. You choose door? You are on a desert island, and all you have is a pair of dice. You know that a plane flies over the island on the 30th day of the month. Using the dice, how can you make a calendar that always tells…”

I had two interviews. They went well. I was asked basic questions about my experience. Nothing out of the ordinary. I was told that the regional manager was out of town and would be back the following week. I was told that I would be interviewing with him. I never heard another word from them regarding the position either way.

    Store Manager Interview

I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at DSW in January 2015.

    Interview Details

The recruiter was very agressive, did not spend time listening. He over spoke me throughout the entire conversation. I never was made felt unvalued over a phone interview in my career. I feel that this specific recruiter needs to have a refresh course on evaulating talent over the phone. Also, do not use judgemental words, it does not make the interviewee feel valued.

    Thanks

Sent an online application in. Had to do a few assessments that were tenuous but nothing horrible. Got a call 2 weeks later saying I got an interview. Went in a few days later and it went well. Was one on one, easy questions. Scheduled a second interview for a week later. Was also easy. Told me I'd get an email about doing a background check if i RECIEVED the job.

    Interview Details

Applied online, called for a follow-up and called back a month later for an interview. It was my first interview ever and was really nervous, so I don't think I did very well. Got an email a few days later saying they were pursuing other applicants. Make sure you know what their core values are and be sure to have some situational answers prepared

I applied through college or university – interviewed at DSW in November 2014.

    Interview Details

I submitted and application online and was selected for a phone interview within the next few weeks. The phone interview was incredibly conversational. Only asked me questions about my resume and seemed very excited to talk to me. About two weeks later I got a phone call saying I was selected or a second round interview. I interviewed with five different people over the course of about two hours.

I applied online – interviewed at DSW in September 2014.

    Interview Details

Complete BS taking the extensive assessment test. I wasn't even able to complete the times one. 10 minutes is far to short of a time period to be able to take in each question and find the correct answer. All this for a part time store job is ludicrous and not cost effective. I've had 9 years retail experience and could be a proven asset but because I can't "pass" an assessment test I can't qualify for an interview.

I applied online. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at DSW in September 2014.

    Interview Details

Filled out application online. Was called for interview next day. Most questions were geared toward team work. There seemed to be a set list of questions the manager was following. The job description was for a stock associate, but the actual position involved all duties, including sales and cashier. I was called in for a second interview but decided not to accept based on that factor.
