    Graduate Buyer's Administrative Assistant Interview

    Application Details

I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at Debenhams in July 2014.

    Interview Details

Filled out an online form through their website which I must say was very straight forward and user friendly. Later I received an email asking me to come in for an interview and prepare a SWOT analysis of their footwear products to present in the meeting. I researched the brand inside out to prepare myself for the interview and headed to their stores to get a sense of their customers and to take a closer look at their products. Having let the receptionist know I was here for an interview, I was asked to wait in the lobby area for the Head Buyer to come down to collect me. I waited over 20 minutes which was not really professional or respectful at all. I met two ladies, one a Head Buyer at Debenhams and the other ..... still not sure to this day. But they both took me into a small meeting room and I was interrogated from start to finish. The interview lasted about half an hour to fourty minutes. I was asked endless amount of questions. Unfortunately, I came across really nervous because I really didn't expect two people in the interview and in all honesty, the Head Buyer was arrogant. It didn't seem like she was interested in anything I had to say. I knew I hadn't got the position after one minute of conversation with her. On top of that, I was asked not to present the SWOT I created, inside they wanted to take a copy away. I only devised brief points because I was expected to present it, anyhow we went through it together and at least she said it was very good. After a week or two, I heard back saying I didn't get the position and was informed that I could call to receive feedback from the interview. I thought this was very good of them, especially because not many company's offer to do this, and it helps you to really understand how you are perceived and how to prepare for next time.

I applied online – interviewed at Debenhams in October 2013.

    Interview Details

Had to fill out online application form, giving answers to variety of questions based on certain situations,
week later got phone call for phone interview. When have you given great customer service,
services Debenhams offer, tell me about debenhams etc. I found out ther and then if I passed.
I was then booked in for interview at wasall a week later for Christmas temp sales assistant. At interview we had to pair up then find out things about each other then tell about other person to rest of group. Then we had write what things make good sales assistant and tell to rest of group. Then we was put in pairs for different departments of debenhams with piece of paper and pen and write what was wrong with department and how you can make changes. After back as group the manger of store came in and we each had to tell him what we wrote. Very strange.
In one on one interview everything I said the woman just wrote something different. Most questions went along the lines.Compared to M&S and next xustomer service how can debenhams improve theirs. How would ypu rate Debenhams customer service etc. It was like they looking for free advice. Really bad and unprofessional. I received email week later saying I didnt have ability to do the job. BASED on what, all questions were nothing to do with how or why I would be good for store. The manager is one without yhe ability. I have worked for debenhams before in another area and had no problems. Its a joke

I applied for a different role and the HR got back to me after 6 weeks and said they had a role that was more suitable for me as I was at a more advanced level than the position I applied for.

I thought this was great, the interview was good and pretty laid back. They didn't get back to me for 7 weeks, of my repeated emails and calls, and then just said Im sorry you don't have enough experience. It turns out they had only interviewed me and I think the job was not yet authorised.
