    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took a weekinterviewed at Deloitte (San Francisco, CA) in January 2015.

    Interview

Applied through my university's career center and was notified by email that I have been selected for round 1 of interviews. Round 1 is a virtual interview, phone, in this case. It was 2 30 minute interviews with 2 different hr reps. The first one lasted about 30 minutes and was the behavioral interview. They asked me about myself, about different things I was involve with in school, and how I have handled different scenarios with regards to group activities, leadership and being organized. This interview was fairly easy, and like many others I have had.
Then just after finishing up with the first interview, the second recruiter called for the technical interview. This interview lasted about 30 minutes as well. I was asked about various topics with regard to project management and operations and then focus shifted toward excel based questions. First these started out basic then they got more challenging (pivot tables, vlookup, etc).
This was all for the round 1 interview.

    Interview Questions

    • What is the difference between a budget and a forecast?
What is the purpose of internal auditing?
Describe one time you had to relay sensitive information to someone, and how you did it
What is a circular error in excel? What is hard coding?
In excel how can you find which cells have formulas in them and which do not? And how would you let someone know something regarding information in a particular cell? (highlight or use comment feature)

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Deloitte (Philadelphia, PA) in November 2014.

    Interview

Applied in school's career service. The whole process takes about two weeks. The interviewers are very nice and easy talk. Actually, it is one of the things that they are seeking from candidates. Communication skill is extremely important to them. Be prepared for a case interview. Not easy. Be sure that you know Excel and budgeting well. This is more like being a "CEO" under the control of Deloitte. Very bright future.

    Interview Questions

    • Tell me your stories. What do you think the most important for being a leader. When you meet conflict schedule, how do you handle it, and make an example. When you realize that you can not make it before the due, what will you do? If the travel fee is increasing rapidly, what will you say to the customers?   Answer Question

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeksinterviewed at Deloitte.

    Interview

I was a referral and the first interview was simply the recruiter making sure I was a good fit and understood the role. That was followed by a staff level interview that went well and was a get to know you kind of conversation. Questions were quite limited on that call and we talked a bit more about what my work preferences were and my experience including experience with different tools.
The third interview was a round of 3 interviews in one day. One interview was with a manager and the last two with 2 different senior managers from the practice. For the most part those questions were behavioral questions but the last interview was a case study. Talked about different ways I would handle situations of managing client work. Tough last interview but got the offer.

    Interview Questions

    Negotiation

Not too rough. They knew what they wanted to pay.

    Interview

Two step interview process. First step of the interview was part technical and behavior. The technical part was mostly based on Microsoft office and the behavioral part were your typical behavioral questions. The Second step was a case interview followed up with another behavior interview. Overall the process was great and all of the people I met at Deloitte were very nice and welcoming.

    Interview Questions

    • At the beginning of my behaviorally interview I was asked to describe myself and right as a finished the interviewer said "Tell me who you really are" - it threw me off completely   Answer Question

    Negotiation

Didn't negotiate, the initial offer was better than I was expecting.

    Interview

Very nice recruiter, the people at the office seemed nice. At the end of the interview they tried to sell the company with a presentation on "Deloitte U", a first year summit. It seemed as though they were using to to sell the position and company.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Deloitte (Chicago, IL) in February 2014.

    Interview

My first interview was with a Deloitte recruiter who asked me to walk him through my resume - very general. The second interview was with a current Senior Project Controller who asked me some Excel/Basic financial questions. The next was in-person with three senior managers who ask standard interview questions and also a case study portion (see below). It was not as intimidating as I would have assumed for Deloitte.

    Interview Questions

    • You will have a case portion - but not like McKinsey or Google type questions where they ask you "how many trash cans are in New York City?" These questions will make you act like a Project Manager and ask your opinion when issues arise. For example: How would you cut costs? Make sure you know how to calculate project margin as well.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

Did not negotiate since salary is great for a salary starting. Benefits can't be beat.

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeksinterviewed at Deloitte (Chicago, IL) in October 2013.

    Interview

The process is very friendly and straightforward. I was referred to Deloitte by a personal friend who also works at Deloitte, contacted by a recruiter for the position, and then we set up an initial phone interview within a couple days of that first e-mail exchange. After that phone interview, where we just went over my resume and basically it's applicability to the job, I was told I would be recommended for a second "technical" phone interview with someone from the group at a level higher than the one I was applying for. I had that phone interview a couple days later and we also mostly just discussed my resume and some soft-skills type questions about time-management and delegation, for example. Both phone calls were very laid back and low stress. A few days after that (could've been even a week or so), I heard back from my original recruiter (who did the first phone interview) and she said I was going to be invited into the office for in-office interviews. It took a while to get the official invitation from another HR representative (1-2 weeks) and then I was scheduled to come into the office about 2 weeks after that. I had three in-office interviews: 1) a fit interview (same as the phone interviews, basically), 2) a 'financial' interview (where I also talked mostly about my resume and past experiences), and 3) a case interview. I will say that I read a text book on case interviews cover-to-cover, practiced at least 50 different cases, and put in a total of close to 30 hours of studying for this case interview - and it was 30 hours too much. I didn't really get a case in the true sense of the word but was given a very general scenario and asked how I would (or have in the past) handle it. Everyone I talked to was very friendly, approachable, and I felt completely comfortable. I heard back within one week with an email saying that the team was preparing an offer and I got the actual offer another week later (so probably two weeks after my interviews).

    Interview Questions

    • There really weren't any difficult questions. It was one of the best interview experiences I have ever had!   Answer Question

    Negotiation

No negotiations. I had read on here that most people who tried to negotiate were turned down so I had a plan in my mind and as long as they met that plan, I was on board (and they did).
