Very Difficult Interview

Economic Consultant Interview

Economic Consultant
New York, NY

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Deloitte in April 2012.

Interview Details – It was 2 1:1 interview on campus with Deloitte Tax for the Economic Consultant position. Because they were hiring primarily for consultants in the transfer pricing group, you really have to know a lot about transfer pricing before going into the interviews. So my advice to future candidates would be to be prepared.

Deloitte Access Economics Graduate Program Interview

Deloitte Access Economics Graduate Program
Melbourne (Australia)

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Deloitte in April 2014.

Interview Details – 1. Online application: a few general and behavioural questions, plus cover letter and resume.
2. Psychiometric test: 10 logical questions, make the right choice based on a short paragraph of article.
3. Telephone interview: By a graduate recruiting team member, asking some general questions again.
4. Assessment Centre.

I got to the phone interview process a week after completing the psychometric assessment, which was completely unexpected. I did not perform well in that interview, and received a rejection email next morning. One of my friends got his invitation to the assessment centre at the end of his phone interview, which made me jealous.

Interview Question – 1. Why have you applied to Deloitte Access Economics?
2. Please tell us a bit more about you Honours year thesis.

Junior Economic Consultant Interview

Junior Economic Consultant
London, England (UK)

I applied through a staffing agency and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Deloitte in October 2012.

Interview Details – I was first interviewed by a manager, who met me at the Deloitte offices and took me to a coffee shop for the half-hour interview. I hadn't brushed up enough on economics so I was rusty on the technical questions (there were normal competency questions and a discussion on econometrics). I was given a second round on the basis that, while I needed to be better on the technical side, the interviewer liked me.

I next met with another manager, for an hour-long meeting with a few case studies (Royal Mail Privatisation, Cigarrette taxes) which I felt had gone quite well. Was rejected at this stage, advised to return in a year with more experience.

Interview Question – When would you use logit or probit?   Answer Question

In the second question the discussion was devoted in deeper details on my qualifications and skills for the specific position as well as my value to the organisation.

Economic Consultant Interview

Economic Consultant

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Deloitte in November 2010.

Interview Details – Interview - Washington DC office

1st round interview was on campus.
On campus interview consisted of a case interview and a fit interview. I met with three people for 30 minutes each.
2nd round interview was at the office. Took the train, arrived by 9 am. I met with 16 people in the office that day. I would say that half were more senior levels and other half was junior levels. Most of the senior people were Economics Ph.D's.

My overall experience with Deloitte interviews was unpleasant. Office atmosphere was dead and silent. Junior people were nice but dull. Senior consultants and partners did not seem approachable nor friendly.

Interview Question – Why did you do so poorly on this course?   Answer Question
