Transfer Pricing Consultant Interview

Transfer Pricing Consultant
Washington, DC

I applied online and the process took 2 days - interviewed at Deloitte in May 2014.

Interview Details – Had a first round phone interview and then a full-day final round. Day-long interview included several written tests (math, writing, analytical), a sales pitch, and a group transfer pricing exercise and presentation. Exercise was surprisingly technical rather than a general aptitude/intelligence test. Very friendly throughout, but long. HR contact was uncommunicative after the interview.

Interview Question – Explain why transfer pricing has become an increasingly important part of multinational business strategy.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university and interviewed at Deloitte.

Interview Details – I applied through my university's career website and had two phone interviews. A lot of the questions were about my past experiences. They wanted to know specific details about the tasks that I was responsible for and what I successfully accomplished during each of my experiences. They wanted to see a real interest in transfer pricing, especially why one would choose transfer pricing over everything else.

I applied through other source and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Deloitte in October 2011.

Interview Details – First round is the phone interview with HR. General questions that you could possibly think of, such as, why Deloitte, Why Chicago, Why transfer pricing, etc. On the face-to-face round, most of the people on the team are from foreign countries. I met an italian, brazilian and an japanese. During the lunch, we talked about economic dynamics and global issues - not only domestic ones but also european and asian economies. So be prepared.

Interview Question – There's not really anything unexpected. Just not be nervous and express your opinions about the current events in the world.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Chicago is too cold for me:)

Transfer Pricing Analyst Interview

Transfer Pricing Analyst
Chicago, IL

The process took 2 days - interviewed at Deloitte in December 2009.

Interview Details – First round was on campus, was grilled hard about valuation, and random things about how to choose suitable comparable companies. Held my composure throughout it all and left the interview not thinking I would get a second round but I did. Second round was more behavioral based. I talked a lot about why I wanted to do transfer pricing- my econ background, the international and analytical focus, etc.

Interview Question – How would you choose comparable companies?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – Chose to decline because the company and division didn't seem to be a good fit.

Interviewed at Deloitte

Interview Details – I applied through the website stepstone. At first it was a telephone interview which turned out to be really good. Two weeks after there was the actual job interview which consists of two parts: an interview part and the case study. Either part was really nice. After the ending of the job interview we went through the transfer pricing department and I had to chance to get to know my prospective colleagues.

Interview Question – No typical consulting questions. Rather about life or the job.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No possibilites since I just graduated from school.

Transfer Pricing Analyst Interview

The process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Deloitte in August 2011.

Interview Details – Started with a phone interview mainly asking about academic and career background, 10 minutes at the most. Next was the first interview, initially met with a senior manager and an associate partner. Consisted of the standard interview questions and discussions, very light and conversational. Later, had a discussion with a partner, this was mostly informative; he discussed the job, the opportunities that were possible, the work-life balance etc. About a week later a second interview, where I met with the same senior manager to discuss the details of what the job entailed, another senior manager from a different team to ask general interview questions (this, I believe, was more to determine fit within the company than anything else). I met with a manager and a senior analyst for coffee (again to determine social skills within the team). Finally, I met with the associate manager from the first interview to discuss compensation, start date and an outline for the first few months as well as future career progression. Another week went by and I got a call saying that all interviews went well and that I should expect an offer shortly. Offer came the next day.

Interview Questions

  • Provide examples where you worked as part of a team both in an academic and workplace setting.   Answer Question
  • Explain what you think Transfer Pricing is.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – Being that this is my first job out of school, I did not attempt to negotiate salary, vacation or anything else like that. There was some room to discuss a start date and we came to an agreement that worked well for me.

The process took 3 months - interviewed at Deloitte in July 2010.

Interview Details – The interview process takes forever. It started with a phone interview and then they bring you into the office a couple of times. My last interview was most of the day with meeting almost everyone in the group. There was also a lunch with two directors at this time. Mostly behavioral and fit questions. I think fit is huge because the group is pretty small.

Interview Question – Why did you leave your last job?   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – The work did not seem interesting. Also the interview process takes entirely too long.
