    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeksinterviewed at Deloitte (Arlington, VA) in March 2015.

    Interview

I submitted my resume in advance of a Deloitte-hosted networking event. Within 18 hours of uploading my resume I was contacted for an initial screening interview. The call was about 40 minutes: What did your manager say on your last performance review? Why are you looking to leave your company? What level do you think you should come into? The next day I was contacted to come in for an in person interview. My interview was scheduled for 10 days later, after work hours. Its as a series of 3, 30 minute interviews. The first was a fit interview: walk me through your resume; have you had to do stakeholder engagement? Asked a question about how I can balance multiple priorities and clients at a time; asked a few clarifying questions about my experience. Second interview was a case study, pretty straight forward; only had time for the interviewer question: what are the organizational challenges. The third was a technical fit interview: what do you like about Human Capital? Where do you see the strengths of your experience? We are considering you for senior consultant--can you talk about your experience with teams?

My interview was on a Thursday and I got a call the following Wednesday confirming information on my application, and informed me they would be making an offer. Offer was made the following Monday. The whole process took less than 4 weeks.

    Interview Questions

    • Can you walk me through your Resume?
What experience do you have with working in and managing teams?
At Deloitte, there is an expectation to work on your client project but also contribute to Deloitte HQ activities--have you worked in a position before where you have to switch back-and-forth from priorities in this way?

I applied online. The process took 3+ monthsinterviewed at Deloitte (Rosslyn, VA).

    Interview

Initial contact was a phone screening conducted by Recruiting during which I was scheduled for an in-person interview. I was offered to interview in two days or wait 3.5 weeks, I opted for the two day. Once on-site realized they have a unique process for 'interviews'. There were approximately 40-50 people awaiting to be interviewed. Once the magic hour began a mixed team of recruiters and staff consultants entered the rooms and started calling out names, diving the 40-50 into about 6-7 groups. Each group was escorted to an area where each candidate was in a work room. Once settled the process began when the first interviewer showed up at the room. Candidates were given a schedule with name, title and time of each interview. It was a round robin affair offering individual interviews by three staff consultants with mini (5 mins.) breaks between. At the conclusion of each of the interviews each interviewer provided their assumption on the next steps, consolidation of the days information and discussion with the HR recruiting team before a decision for further interviewing.

    Interview Questions

    • NONE. That was the most disappointing part of the process. There were no difficult questions. Nothing of substance to the kind of work were were discussing was asked. Most qustions, with the exception of 1-2, were repeated across all three interviewers AND all of those were focused on regurgitating what was on the resume. Every one of the interviewers had a hard copy of the resume in front of them. A couple did some homework, I could tell they read it ahead of time...one wrote in the margins and the other had highlighted some areas. The 1-2 quality questions were asked by one interviewer who inquired into methodologies and commonly practiced evidenced-based models/frameworks. Excellent! We are going somewhere, then it stopped. I left thinking it was very superficial. I just expected a much more sophisticated and deeper examination for talent recruitment of such a highly regarded company.   1 Answer

    Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Deloitte in November 2014.

    Interview

A friend in the company gave me an employee referral, which got me a screening interview with a recruiter for a Consultant role. I answered the typical screening questions with the recruiter (tell me about work you've done with teams; in a leadership role; etc.). A couple weeks later, I had a behavioral/situational phone interview with a Director. There were two questions with very in-depth follow-up. A couple weeks later, I had the final round in-person interviews, including two 1-on-1 interviews with questions about work experience and one case interview with a Managing Director. The next week, I was informed that my interviews went great and that I would definitely receive an offer. However, this was November, I had two competing offers on the table, and Deloitte said that they couldn't give me an offer until January, based on the current project load. I couldn't turn down my existing offers with only the promise of an unseen offer in two months, so I had to turn down Deloitte.

    Interview Questions

    • The business case was challenging, but it was the standard organizational change management question: a client is implementing a new (ERP, payroll, billing, whatever) system. What would you do to prepare for and implement this change?   1 Answer

I applied online. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Deloitte (Arlington, VA) in May 2014.

    Interview

Started with a phone interview and one week later I was invited to a 3 part interview (technical, behavior, case study). I prepared and had everything ready to go and the interview was AWESOME! The staff were very kind and I was asked 1000 times if I wanted a beverage. While sitting in the lobby, several employees were stopping by to pick up t-shirts for Deloitte's volunteer day. I inquired about how the company ensures work life integration (I read this was an issue for several employees) and was informed this is an area Deloitte is seeking to improve. Overall a great experience!

    Interview

    1. Applied on website
    2. Recieved email from Recruiter in Alberta regarding job in Burlington, ON
    3. Informational interview with recruiter over the phone
    4. Behavioural interview with same recruiter over the phone at a later date
    5. In person interview with Senior Manager in Burlington
    6. No offer

Several issues regarding Deloitte's recruitment process were unfair and unprofessional. The recruiter had to ask an HR rep in Toronto to contact me to ask when she could call me back for a behavioural interview to be done from Alberta over the phone. Recruiter and HR rep failed to follow up and keep contact for weeks at a time despite numerous requests for an update. Interview with hiring manager was rescheduled and cancelled several times and delayed for weeks. HR rep set up a behavioural and case interview, after travelling for 3hrs to get to the location, the hiring manager bragged about his credentials and reputation for 30mins, talked about the job for 20mins and asked me several discriminatory and disrespectful questions pertaining to ethnic, religious and place of origin, and then closed the interview. Recieved an email about 2 days later saying I did not 'fit' . The hiring manager did not even conduct a behavioural inteview or case, but instead rambled on about totally unrelated points. End result and my suspicion which was confirmed was that they were just doing the interview for fun and had already made up their mind prior to my even coming in for an interview. As well, the recruiter never followed up on a request for feedback or further information. Non-GTA Deloitte offices have almost no visible minorities and are coupled with prejudice and racist managers.

End Result: I would not suggest this to be the first choice for new graduates or even experienced candidates. Better opportunities available elsewhere and the salary is quite low.
