I applied through college or university – interviewed at Deloitte.

    Interview Details

The interview process was pretty typical of big 4 firms. I went through the on-campus interview process, which started with 1 interview with a Partner and if you make it past that, you have a series of 4-5 30min interviews in the office. The interviews are mainly for fit/compatibility, if you made it that far, you're generally qualified for the position and they want to see your personality.

I applied in-person. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Deloitte in December 2013.

    Interview Details

First I had a phone screening with the recruiter to find out what position I would be interested in. Then, I was brought in to the office for two interviews, one with senior manager and one with partner. Know the discounted cash flow (DCF) inside and out! Also know the income and market approaches. Very analytical internship, very repetitive, but will look great on your resume and if you get the offer and stick it out for a year the exit opportunities are unbeatable - into an investment bank possibly, hedge fund, or private equity firm.

The interview was very casual. It was 4 back to back interviews that were focused on behavioral questions. They wanted to see if I was passionate about finance and how I had shown that in my past experience. The more technical questions came up later in the interviews but they were nothing too difficult.

I applied through college or university – interviewed at Deloitte in October 2013.

    Interview Details

    Started with On-campus application.

2 30 min phone interviews (for most people this was on campus but I was applying to an office not near my school.

    "Super Day"
5 30 minute interviews with senior managers and partners
Spent the rest of the day interacting with associates and senior associates
Ending with associates taking all of us candidates out to lunch.

All the interviews had a similar format, mostly conversational, some personality/scenario questions, with a few technical/finance questions

    Interview Questions
    • Compare the three financial statements of a restaurant and a software company.
Walk me through a DCF, WACC, financial statements calculation.
There were some tricky "soft ball questions" ex. tell me about a time you failed or struggled to live up to expectations.

    Business Valuation Associate Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 daysinterviewed at Deloitte in October 2013.

    Interview Details

First round interview was over the phone with a manager at the group. Conversation revolved around my interest in valuation, industries that I followed etc. A behavioral round with emphasis on why I decided to enter the field and why I was interested in Deloitte in particular.

Final round at the office with 4 managers. A technical round with basic questions on valuation methods (how will you value a private company, what market multiple would you use to value a bank), financial statement analysis (how are patents recognized on the balance sheet, what ratio would give you an indication of the firm's ability to pay of it's interest expense etc.).

Business Valuation - Winter Internship Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took a dayinterviewed at Deloitte in September 2013.

    Interview Details

Hour-long interview (two 30-minute face-to-face interviews with directors/managers). From what I could tell, it didn't seem like a true consulting role - Deloitte Valuation seemed more like advisory/assurance. Interview was relatively comfortable and relaxed, though they do ask a lot of questions. I thought I did amazing but they must have had some good candidates. Go in knowing about the business, read the website's case studies, know the financial formulas and you'll do fine.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Deloitte in December 2012.

    Interview Details

I had a phone interview then I was invited to interview on site. I had three 1:1 interviews, with manager, senior manager, and partner. Straight forward - discuss background, why Deloitte, why valuation, etc. All fit questions. Be prepared to discuss your resume in detail and what experiences you have had that would make you a good fit with Deloitte. Emphasis is on culture of the firm, and how you would fit in.

Financial Business Valuation Associate Internship Interview

    Application Details

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Deloitte in November 2012.

    Interview Details

1st round: Technical phone interview with senior associate; 30 minutes
Need to know: DCF Valuation (all of the steps and what each step represents), Common multiples (i.e. EV/EBITDA) and how to calculate them. It is a very technical interview, may vary with your experience (major, work, extra curricular). This is the step where they weed out those without some technical background.

2nd round: Two 30minute interviews (one with two senior associates, another with the principal. The first interview was largely behavioral and the second was like a conversation. With the principal, I mainly asked him questions about his position, experience (i.e. challenges associated, typical day) and the position itself (learning opps, process). With the two senior associates, it was behavioral question (i.e. difficulty working with a team). The whole interview process was casual and very conversational.

After 2nd round, follow up was 1.5 weeks later with offer.
