I interviewed at Dillard's in October 2013.

Interview Details – The interview process was not made very clear to me. I applied online through monster.com and was called back within the week. They asked me to come in to the store at my convenience to fill out a computer application. Since they hadn't scheduled anything specific with me, I wasn't expecting an interview when I came in, but I came prepared anyway. However, after the half-hour computer application process I was in fact told to wait for an interview. The interview was easy and pleasant - no awkward stock questions, nothing meant to trap me in a negative comment.

Interview Question – This was one of the easiest interviews I've ever had. There were really no difficult or unexpected questions asked of me.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Dillard's in September 2013.

Interview Details – I saw a post on Monster.com and applied through there. In less than a week I received a call from a hiring manager. After getting the voicemail left a few days later, I called and scheduled for an interview with the Cosmetics/Lingerie manager. When I went in for the interview, I was asked to fill out the actual application on a computer. After I was done with the application, the customer service employee on duty printed it out and gave it to the manager I interviewed with to reference. The interview process was pretty laid back. She mostly asked me about past retail experience and schooling. She spent a lot of time telling me about the company and what it's like to work at Dillard's. She said that she felt my personality was perfect for the job and that she likes how out-going I am. When she was done asking questions and telling me about the company, she stated she would pass all the information to her boss, and if her boss wanted to go further with the process, I would receive a call from her.

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at Dillard's in April 2012.

Interview Details – Not much was actually asked of me, basically wanted to know how much experience I had in customer service and retail and if I was willing to work with a sales goal.

Interview Question – Do I know the history of Dillard's and some of their "private label brands"   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Dillard's in May 2012.

Interview Details – Interviewed with the Store Manager at Northlake Mall in Charlotte, NC, along with some female Department manager. I was pretty much told I was hired. We discussed what my pay per hour would be (I think this is where things went wrong as I asked for $12/hr. I could tell the store manager was reluctant to agree to this pay, by his facial expressions). Anyhoo they said after my background check cleared, I could begin training.

That was well over two weeks ago, and I have called several times since, and all they they can tell me is that my background check status is "pending" and they will call me back once it has cleared. Yea...ok..

They basically went with somebody else who they either liked better or was cheaper labor. I didn't really want to work there that much anyway, but got into financial jam recently, where I really could have used the extra cash. I would have only worked through summer before most likely leaving but nevertheless, I feel that they could just been honest. I realized after speaking with some former coworkers of mine that used to work there, that they are one of the worst retailers to work for because they slash your pay if you don't make goals (which is very likely considering they rarely have sales and sell the same stuff as Macy's and Belk that's 50% not including coupon promotions)

So..beware to those of you who leave the interview thinking that you have gotten the job. Don't get too excited unless your background check has cleared and you have come into fill out new hire paperwork.

Interview Question – How would you help bring customers into the store? What type of events would you suggest to management to help increase sales?   View Answer

I applied in-person and the process took 5 days - interviewed at Dillard's in April 2012.

Interview Details – I went in during a week day. I introduced myself to one of the managers and discussed with her that I was seeking employment. She had me write down my information and she would get in touch with me in a day or so. She called, and we scheduled an interview for the following morning. It went great! After the 1 on 1 interview she had my fill out the application on the computer. After I was done, we talked some more.

I applied in-person and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Dillard's in August 2010.

Interview Details – PLEASE READ AND DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE I MADE.
I cannot emphasize enough, how horrible the management of this store in Denton is... I read 100 reviews and thought: well, maybe it's not going to be as bad as they say. I was dreaming I think...
I had visited the store in March 2010 to apply, had 2 interviews the same day and the manager told me they would love to see me back in May when I move to Denton to live. I quit my job, moved to Denton, visited Dillard's, they told me I will need to be in training class, they would love to have me there, but the training class is postponed... I kept coming back for the next 3 months, and training class kept being postponed, until I had another interview, and suddenly next week the class was full, and there was no place for me somehow, even though I called in every week during those 3 months. All that time they were telling me how much they wanted me to work there. That was very wrong move from management point of view, obviously they don't know how to treat people and care less.
I would like to say many more comments, but I think this is enough. This shows exactly what they care about, and it doesn't include humans.

The process took 2 days - interviewed at Dillard's in July 2011.

Interview Details – I received a phone call the same day I applied. She set up an interview with the children's department manager two days later. I get there, and the manager had no idea he had an interview! Very disorganized; no communication. He really didn't ask me any questions, just told me about the position. I'm not sure why they ask which area you choose to work, because you have to "prove" yourself to work in certain departments. You can ONLY start in a select few departments (children's, home, etc.). This manager was interested in hiring me, and said he would pass the information along for another interview with a different manager up to two weeks later. After hearing the details (Sales per hour, department-promotion process, etc.), not sure I'm too interested in this job.

Interview Question – Are you just wanting to work here until something else comes along?   Answer Question
