Performance Improvement- Customer Intern Interview

Performance Improvement- Customer Intern
New York, NY

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 days - interviewed at EY.

Interview Details – I applied through my career website and got a call from HR and scheduled an interview for the next day which was kind of fast. I then had a 45 minute behavioral interview that covered a range of topics like leadership, strengths weaknesses, etc. The interviewer was very very nice and I was very comfortable having a conversation with him. After my interview, I had a timed writing assessment.

I applied through college or university and the process took 2+ weeks - interviewed at EY in October 2013.

Interview Details – I applied through my schools career website. They got back to me in a couple of weeks saying I had an interview and a pre-night dinner. The dinner was really fun and I got to meet my interviewer. The interview was 30 minutes long and strictly behavioral. He went through my resume from top to bottom and asked me questions. They said I would hear in 7-10 days. There is also a writing sample that needs to be competed, which was not difficult.
About 7 days later I got the email saying I was not selected for the second round interview.

Interview Question – Why EY? What do you know about the position you applied for? Tell me about a difficult time in your internship.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university and the process took 6 weeks - interviewed at EY in December 2012.

Interview Details – Got the initial interview through university recruiting? I think, not entirely sure. Phone interview is 30 minutes. Two weeks later, heard back and was asked to do a writing assessment. I think this was the "2nd round." A few weeks later was invited to a Super Day. First there's a presentation about the company and the program. Then there are 3 interviews: 2 behavioral, 1 case study. You will DEFINITELY interview with someone (if not all) of significance. My first interview was with a partner and I completely ruined it. 2nd interview and 3rd interview (case study) went well. Greeters are young/recent grads. Extremely friendly, they bring you to eat after all the interviews.

Interview Question – Why are you interested in finance if you have no financial experience? What led you to EY? How do you time-manage? Do you have any questions for me?   Answer Question

Senior Consultant Interview

I applied through a staffing agency and the process took 2 months - interviewed at EY in January 2011.

Interview Details – I was called by a staffing agency for this position. After a long phone conversation with the staffing agency, I was told that about my phone interview with an E&Y personnel.

Phone Interview: Interview was for about 30-40 minutes. Started with the basic questions in regards to my prior education and prior experience. The discussion then went into the projects that I have worked on and my role in each project. The interviewer allowed me to explain each project that was in my resume and would ask questions on them. Fairly easy questions based on the project itself.

Once I cleared this interview, I was informed about the 1:1 interview with 4 employees from E&Y. The 4 interviewers held independent (different) positions and had questions based on their requirements. Initial process was same and I had to explain my background and skill sets along with the projects listed on the resume. Specific question were asked, but again they were based on my projects and experience.

On clearing this process, I was interview 1:1 by a partner who was the leading the department where I was suppose to work. Questions were again about my background. The only difference was that the partner asked me more about the consulting industry and my preference for consulting. He wanted to make sure that I understand the expectations of being a consultant working at client locations.

These were all the interviews that I gave. Unfortunately, the salary was a question mark and I didnt get through. I had a very positive experience and each of the interviewers were very respectful and gave great feedback to my questions.

I applied through college or university and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at EY.

Interview Details – I sent my resume through campus recruiting, and filled out online application form on EY's website. About 2 weeks after the deadline, I received an email, stating that I was selected for the 1st round interview at campus by a manager. A week after the interview, I got the rejection by email. 2nd round will be in office and by partner(s), but I will not be able to provide any detail.

Interview Question – Nothing difficult or unexpected, all behavioral. The one I didn't give good answer was "what's your career path?"   Answer Question

Tech Support Interview

The process took 7+ weeks - interviewed at EY in August 2013.

Interview Details – When I first saw the ad on indeed.com, I applied right away. However, there is another ad just like the one I applied but in different location. So, I applied that also. So there are locations NY, and NJ-A
The HR recruiter called me from different location (not from NY, NJ) and set up phone interview with me. So, I talked to her and passed the initial phone interview. I was confused at first because I thought I was talking to her about the NJ location. Anyhow, I don’t mind at all for NY location. She understood, but sent me to NY interview anyway.
So, the interview was set up with the upper manager in NY. ( btw, he is a manager that is above manager from NJ location). The interview went well, but the manager knew that I prefer NJ location to NY location. And so, I didn’t get the job from NY location. However, he did recommend me to NJ location and was telling me the hiring should be done at the beginning of October. So, the waiting game began ….
I was reading some of the reviews of interviews on glassdoor.com. Some posters said that the duration may last 2 months. I checked my application and it started from Aug 1, 2013. And so I thought I still had a couple weeks to wait. At the almost end of third week of September, I decided to send another follow up email to HR (btw, I sent a couple f follow ups already and HR told me to be patience), and this time she told me the position was on hold and may go internally. That is why I can’t get the position on NJ-A.
Oh well, something is not really meant to be. If it is not yours, it is really not yours no matter how well you feel about interview, how manager recommends you to other site. This time the HR told me that there may be NJ-B location to be opened which is very far from where I live, and told me if that opens and asked me if I wanted to give a shot if that opens. I told her yes. However, that may be another months to consider.
The HR recruiter was acting professionally; at least she did give me updates every time I emailed her. Many recruiters don’t really care if you are a loser. However, I don’t think that I have any chance working for Ernst & Young due to the fact that they have a very poor hiring management.
Shouldn't the position be kept internally if internal applicants want to apply first?! Why would the position (NJ-A) be posted online or outside if internal applicants applied for it? If that was never posted, I could have made it onto the NY position!!

Well, this tells that if something is not yours, no matter how hard you try , it is not yours regardless your experience, skill sets, and how good interview went …..

Interview Question – Not really, no tech questions at all.   Answer Question
