I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in January 2015.

I was contacted by a recruiter through university career center, and she asked me if I am interested in this position, I could apply online. So I submited my resume and transcrip to their career website. A few days later, they emailed me to schedule a phone interview. He, HR, just went over my resume and confirm with me about the information I submitted. I remember that he did not ask me any behavioral questions. He did ask me about the expected salary. I am still waiting for the phone interview result.

The online assessment everyone takes should take 2 hours maximum. I don't think it's nearly as hard as some people in other forums might say. They just want to make sure you have a decent grasp of grammar, logic, and basic math skills. The coding component probably tests how well you learn new skills, in my opinion. There was a 30 minute phone call that was very basic ie walk me through your resume, what do you see yourself doing in 5 years, etc. A current PM will interview you. Mine was very friendly and even chatted with me at the end a bit about Madison. The on- site interview includes a short 10 minute presentation (to make sure you can talk to people), a non-technical case, a fit interview with a current PM, and another interview by your recruiter. You get to eat lunch with current workers and take a tour of the campus (which is awesome). The night before a PM will take a group of interviewees out to dinner in Madison. It's a great chance to ask any questions you have about Epic, the role, or Madison.

Not much room for negotiation. They are a big company and don't need to really go out of their way to attract top talent (it comes to them). It might be different if you're a coding wizard though.

Phone interview is very easy. Assessment is very difficult and you have no way of preparing for it. Ultimately the second interview is based on how well you do in the assessment.

Once you apply online, your interview is the next step which usually comes within a week or two after they review your credentials. The usual interview questions about your resume, how much of a people person you are, how you communicate and lead. However, the exam sorts out all the possible candidates obviously. Very intimidating online exam...

Went through campus recruiting. Submitted my resume and transcript through their website portal. I was emailed within a couple of days of submission requesting a phone interview and also was asked to take their online assessment. The phone interview was simply behavioral and was not stressful. The online assessment was a bit difficult and the live proctoring via webcam added pressure.

I applied at a college career fair. I was contacted to schedule a phone interview and a skills assessment test. I did the phone interview first. It was very straight forward - questions about my resume and any questions I might have about the company, position, and location. The women I interviewed with was very nice, and made a great impression on me concerning the company. Next I was asked to complete the skills assessment test. It is time consuming and somewhat difficult, but not nearly as difficult as I had heard it would be. There really is no way to prepare for it, just expect basic grammar, math, and logic questions. Also there is a section on pseudo code.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in December 2014.

    Interview Details

I applied on their website by filling out a basic information form and uploading my resumé. I was contacted two days later to schedule a Skills Assessment test and a phone call with a current employee. I scheduled the Skills Assessment test for the 21st of December and the phone call for the 22nd of December, very soon after I received the initial email (17th of December) asking me to schedule all of this. The Skills Assessment test was tricky and graded for time and accuracy (all of the questions can be found on Glassdoor if you look hard enough, which I didn't take full advantage of). The phone interview went fine for me, my interviewer being very personable and helpful in answering my questions about Epic, etc. I received an email on the 5th of January (today, not even 30 minutes ago) stating that they had decided to proceed with other applicants.

My advice: Put all of your marbles into the Skills Assessment. The phone interview is a very, very insignificant part of the first-round process. Make sure you do your research on Glassdoor before you take the Skills Assessment test. Almost every question on the Skills Assessment can be found on this site.

About me: 3.6 Arabic major from Dartmouth College. Involved in medical research, a member of Varsity Crew and other extracurriculars.
