Project Manager Interview

Project Manager
Verona, WI

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in September 2007.

Interview Details – I was originally contacted due to my resume on careerbuilder.com. The first phone interview lasted about 15 min, we then set up the first in person interview, which took about 3 hours. The second interview took about 4 hours. The first in person interview consisted of 2 tests, an intelligence test and a programming test. The second interview consisted of a 10 min presentation and a personality test. Sometimes your personality test is what determines what role you will have at Epic.

Interview Question – What healthcare experience do you have and how will it relate to this job?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – If you are an implementor/project manager negotiate for $60k plus, they will then work you down to the mid to high $50k range.

I applied through college or university and interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation.

Interview Details – 30 minute phone screen including questions on why I chose my major, different elements of my resume, as well as my "life goals" and my "dream job." Got an e-mail 2 weeks later inviting me to come on-site for an all day interview. The on-site interview consists of a building tour, a software demo, then a bunch of interviews. one is a case study you do with another person, then you do a 2 hour assessment exam, you have other HR interviews. It's ultimately not that difficult.

Interview Question – Are you detail-oriented or big picture thinker?   View Answer

Reason for Declining – too much traveling and they hire so many project managers each year that I felt like a number/no personal investment.

The process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in April 2011.

Interview Details – The process was really nice and they treat every recruit as if they will get an offer. A recruiter found my resume on monster and invited me to apply for the PM position. After that step, I took a personality test, and then had a phone interview where a PM asked me some basic background questions, discussed the position, and allowed me to ask some questions. Two days later, I received an invitation to fly out to their HQ in Madison. They flew me out, took me out to dinner, and put me up in a nice hotel. On the day of the interview, I took a cab over to their campus (about 30 minutes, and again paid for) it was beautiful, modern, and fun. The day consisted of learning about Epic and a whole bunch of interviews. There was a case study, a presentation that I gave, and an interview with HR. After all of that, I sat down and took some evaluation tests, and I'm not sure how well I did on those. Its been five days since the interview, and they told me that I would hear within a week or two.

I applied through college or university and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in October 2010.

Interview Details – The interview process at Epic was very straightforward. I was informed of how the process would unfold and it never deviated from that path. I was contacted by an HR rep after they had received my application to schedule a 20 minute phone interview. Then I was required to take a three hour skills test. The final step was an onsite interview in Verona, Wisconsin. It was very systematized. Epic clearly wants as many candidates to choose from as possible.

I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in April 2009.

Interview Details – The interview process was straight forward and well executed. After a short phone interview and personality test, I took some written assessments. After those were scored, I was invited on site to an interview, which lasted an entire day. They tell you everything you need to know so just pay attention and plan accordingly. Even if I didn't get an offer, I would still have considered the interview a positive experience because you get better at interviewing every time you do one.

The process took a day - interviewed at Epic Systems Corporation in September 2009.

Interview Details – Epic recruited at my undergraduate business school. However, no interviews were conducted on campus. After collecting my resume at the career fair, I was invited to take an online aptitude test. After the completion of this test, I was contacted by HR to schedule a "phone interview." This was not an interview at all, but rather a 15 min conversation with a current employee in the same position describing what the job entailed. After this, I was asked if I was still interested in the position and then invited to an on-site interview at the headquarters in Wisconsin.

For the onsite interview, I flew in the day before and stayed at a nice hotel at the company's expense. That night I also went out to dinner with a current employee to talk about the position and see the city. Early the next morning, I went to the campus. First we got a quick tour of the building, got a short demo of the software, and then was given a math, english, and programing test. Following this, I conducted a case interview. Next, I was required to deliver a 10 min presentation I had prepared ahead of time to 5 employees, then lunch at the campus. Following this was a short interview with someone in HR.

Interview Question – Interview questions tended to be behavioral, pretty much same-old from every other interview you've had. A few "trick" questions in the testing, but if you're bright enough to get an offer you should get most or all of them.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – The company has received mixed reviews to work for, and the position I was offered was outside of my real interests. Appears to be little room to advance or move within the company as well, but hard to say without working there.
