Declined Offer – Interviewed in New York, NY Dec 2011 – Reviewed Dec 13, 2011
Interview Details –
Was contacted by a recruiter. After basic skills screening by recruiter, I had a technical interview by a director. As next steps, E&Y wanted me to come meet the team in person. Kept asking me to come to NY at a 2 day notice. Planned for a trip, did not know interview schedule until Wednesday eve. It seemed very haphazard.
I had 5 onsite interviews scheduled. The team had obviously not looked at the resume and had basic questions like have I published anything, which was clearly called out in the resume with names of publications, dates and titles. This was rather annoying.
Started by talking to one of the partners, who showed up 20 minutes late. I knew 10 minutes into conversation that the team simply would not be the right fit. The questions for me were very specific, technical screening type which was already done. He however did not want to elaborate on their plans and approach to support the aggressive growth targets and got visibly upset. Not sure if the expectation was that I would toss out some fluff questions and base a career decision out of that.
HR interview was not really an interview but compensation history, work authorization and salary requirements. Of the other 3 interviews, for 2 the questions were really the same as the first interview. One interview was with the director whom I had an earlier phone interview with.
The last interviewer did not show up, because of some client commitment. If I can take a break from my client commitments and take a day to come meet you, surely you can take 30 minutes out to do the same.
I have worked for one of E&Y's direct competitors and have had interviews in past with the big 4 and the overall experience with E&Y was not good. My immediate followup to the recruiter was that I was not interested in continuing discussions with this team.
At each step, they seemed unorganized, I was not impressed with the team which was too myopic in its view, and simply speaking the overall experience was severely lacking. E&Y is a good company, maybe it was this particular team, but this was the most underwhelming interview experience ever
Interview Question – Would you be willing to narrow your focus? View Answer
Reason for Declining – I declined to continue discussions with this team. Their focus is way too narrow and the people involved just did not seem to be people I would want to work for or work with.

Interview Question – Why EY Answer Question
Negotiation Details –
There is supposedly offer on the table, appears to be a tussle with regards to disclosure of information. Why does EY need a candidate's W-2 information to make a competitive offer ? Is it because they are unable to value talent ( concerning as this is an advisory firm charging for valuations) or because they like to make low ball offers to candidates?
I am curious if others have been required to provide the same ?

Accepted Offer – Interviewed in San Francisco, CA Oct 2009 – Reviewed Nov 19, 2009
Interview Details – Very well planned, interviewers know what side are going tackle each. 3 interviews in a row withough a break was tough. Interview was productiive. Very behavioral, could have entered into more technical details, which makes me wonder how interested they are in your past experience or specific knowledge of what your resume says. Interviewers are very very responsive and interested in sharing what EY stands for.
Interview Question – None really Answer Question
No Offer – Interviewed in London, England (UK) Feb 2013 – Reviewed Mar 3, 2013
Interview Details – Process was very drawn out and included 5 interviews from telephonic interview, assessment center to partner interview. Assessment center interviews were well organised and conducted professionally but were done by senior managers so only one level higher than position recruiting for so no real opportunity to engage with very senior management. Assessment center interviews included a case study, overview of experience to date and a group presentation.
Interview Question – Group presentation question was very vague and more of a discussion topic providing no real direction on the outcome required by the candidates. It is important to spend time structuring answer rather than thinking of the first thing that came to mind. Answer Question

3 interviews - one with a Senior Manager at the London Headquarters. 90 minutes, questions on the CV and other areas of my work not covered. Nothing too technical. No Assessment Centre.
Second interview was in London with a Director who had just general questions. I was referred by a contact who was already in the firm so that may be why it was a bit light.
