I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at ExxonMobil International in October 2012.

First contacted by Production company then sent over to Development. Booked flights on Friday for interviews on Tuesday, so very last minute. Host was great, food was great, and great trip. 7 interviews on site (met another interviewee and they only had 4 interviews, so the # varies). All touched on the same topics so be prepared to repeat yourself, ESPECIALLY leadership experience.

At the onsite visit there were three forty minute interviews with managers. These interviews consisted of multiple questions regarding behavior, leadership, and analytical skills, but they do not ask technical questions. The interviews are not bad at all. The managers are very personable and you have plenty of time in between them so you never feel rushed. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.

I gave my resume at my college's career fair. I went to their information session then to an interview. The interviewer did not actually have any position in mind and was not a technical interviewer. She just asked questions about my resume. Got an email a week later that they have sent my resume to the hiring managers. 2 weeks after that I followed up with the interview coordinator, and he said the process takes a long time because they have so many candidates. Does not look like there will be any action before I must make a decision on my offers.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took a day - interviewed at ExxonMobil International in October 2010.

Talking with the procurement recruiter after my CV was passed around the company. had a phone interview. asked me to talk about my biggest struggles, how i overcame them, best professors in college, etc. first question off the bat was for me to tell them about myself. not a lot of feedback when it came to the interviewer listening, seemed very scripted and removed from the conversation. fairly impersonal.

be sure to know the "Standard" interviewing questions and have very good answers ready for them.

General Behavioral interview. Took us into a room and briefed us on what the interview would be like, then individually we went and interviewed with a recruiter. Very laid back interview, my interviewer had gone to the same college as me. Everyone was very friendly and open, and relaxed and had a good time.

I applied through college or university. The process took 3 days - interviewed at ExxonMobil International in September 2009.

I only made it so far as the screening interview, but this was my fault. ExxonMobil uses the standard behavioral interview. They are basically seeing if you will fit within the 5 selected career tracks within their company, which I knew. I knew of two specific career tracks I was interested in them, and geared my entire interview towards them, rather than being completely open to any of the career tracks. I actually thought the interview was pretty easy, but immediately knew I didn't get the position.

I recommend going after them, i've heard rumors of them starting out college grads at $60k+. It was an easy interview, but be open to everything and make sure that is clear. Don't push for any of the tracks, just take the job with them if they offer, it's a great place to work.

    Scheduler Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took a day - interviewed at ExxonMobil International in December 2009.

    Interview Details

First, I had an on-campus interview. We reviewed my resume and my interviewer described the company and the position. He was a nice guy and a top level manager. Some companies send new hires or HR folks for a behavioral interview, but this guy was an engineer who'd been with the company 20+ years and had great answers to my questions - very knowledgeable.

I was invited for a second interview at their Fairfax, VA location and was pampered throughout the interview process. The whole process was quickly and smoothly arranged for me - couldn't have been easier. The recruiting department was nice, helpful, and responded promptly to all my questions.

I was assigned a host for the two days I was in VA. She was a wealth of information and made the process even smoother. She picked me up from the hotel when I needed to leave, brought me from interview to interview, and showed me around the facilities. She took me out to dinner the night before the interview and to breakfast that morning. She and the other newer hires I met really enjoyed their jobs. It sounded like a high-stress job and long hours but with good compensation and a friendly culture. Not for someone who doesn't want to work very hard.

The interview day was tiring. I met with 6 managers over the course of the day. Each manager had 20+ years of experience at Exxonmobil and each had fascinating career stories. There is a great variety of work at Exxonmobil and most of them had worked 8-12 different positions over their tenure. I can't imagine getting bored.

Advice: Have a lot of questions ready and do background research. It will help you get the most out of your host and interviewers and will leave a good impression.

    Interview Questions
    • Tell me about a time where you had to deal with someone who was difficult to work with. How did you handle the situation? This questions was not unexpected, but I think it is a difficult one to answer well. Be prepared.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 days - interviewed at ExxonMobil International in October 2008.

Flew out to Fairfax and they put me in a nice hotel right next to the headquarters. The host met me and took me out to dinner to a very nice restaurant. The next day, I ate breakfast with the host and traveled to headquarters. I had 3 one-on-one interviews with varies upper-level managers. Mostly it went background, the job itself, and career. Past, present, and future. Prepare for the standard behavioral questions in at least one of them, probably two. Know your resume!
