I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Family Video in October 2013.

Interview Details – I was given three interviews, made a 95% on the test and told that I would make a great addition to their team. I was told I would receive a call within a week telling me when to come in for training. After over a week I called the manager, who was not in and never called me back. After calling several more times and never being called back, a month passed from my interview and I gave up. Still haven't received a call!

Interview Question – It was exactly what you would expect from interviews.   Answer Question

Reason for Declining – I was never told when to come in.

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Family Video.

Interview Details – I received a call for an interview. I went in and stood in an isle while they asked questions then I left. My second call was for a test. This test is stupid, its in the style of an ACT. You have to score 70% or higher to be hired in. I got another call for a time to meet the district manager. I went for that and we walked around and they asked more questions. Then rammed me with a million other things I had to try to remember.

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Family Video in April 2012.

Interview Details – There is one interview with the store manager. This interview is consists of basic get-to-know-you questions and customer service questions such as describe a time you went helped a customer. This interview is very laid back and conversational. After the first interview is a timed, basic intelligence test. It tests basic math skills, spelling, and reading comprehension. If this test is passed then there is a second interview with the district manager.

Interview Question – Describe a time you went above and beyond to help a customer?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiation. Part-timers start at minimum wage usually.

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at Family Video in November 2013.

Interview Details – The hiring process is broken down in to 3 steps. The first interview, you go in and talk to the employees, ( I believe it's to see if you fit in well there. ) and if you act like yourself (yet respectful) and let your personality shine through you'll do fine. The second part of this process is a test. It is pretty difficult, with only 45 minutes to take. The test consists of math (fractions, a sudoku-like puzzle, and square roots), some alphabetizing, and spelling and such. This test is basically used to ween out those who cannot competently and quickly think on their feet. You need to pass with at least a 70% to even get a call back for the third interview. As a 18 year old high schooler, it wasn't that hard for me since it's still fresh in my brain. I suggest studying up on your math. The third and final process of the interviews is an interview with the nearest district manager. During this, remember to dress professionally, be polite, but most importantly, let your personality stand out positively. The district manager is really going to judge you the first moment you shake their hand and you begin the process. They're looking for someone to represent the store, so you need to make sure you can show why you're the best choice!

Interview Question – They weren't really difficult, I got "Who is your role model?" and "Where do you see yourself in five years?" The most challenging one I think I was asked was the question "Why do you want to work for this company?"   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There was no negotiation. I was simply given a minimum wage salary.

I applied online and the process took 3 weeks - interviewed at Family Video.

Interview Details – The hiring process was quick and efficient! I applied online and had a call back the next day (the store is required to view these applications online everyday). I received a call from the store manager about coming in for an interview in their store and scheduled a date for me to come in. The interview lasted about five minutes or so and the manager told me that he/she liked me and asked me to come in for the skills test that they have. I came in that same week and took the test (which covers basic math skills, ability to spot errors, vocabulary, etc) and passed (you must get a 70 or higher). The manager called me soon after my test and scheduled another interview with the district manager. My final interview was about a week later where I sat one on one with the district manager and discussed my goals, reasons why I wanted to work at Family Video, and other casual conversations.

Interview Question – Describe yourself in one word.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – There are no negotiations - you are paid a basic wage!

I applied online and the process took a day - interviewed at Family Video.

Interview Details – Interview was being asked questions in the front of the store, while the manager continues to work, answer phones, check out customers, and return movies. Then you get the enjoyment of taking a clerical exam, of which they give you ridiculous time limits for all of it. If you can pass that, you get to interview with the district manager. This is where they tell you that if hired, you are under a 30 day probationary period and if they simply don't like your personality, then they will let you go. What they don't tell you is by "letting you go" they mean take you off the schedule and never call you again. Awesome!

Interview Question – No real difficult questions, but doing math on the test kind of sucked when you've been out of school for a little while.   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – No negotiations, simply here's your pay, you'll get more if we like you and you stay.

I applied in-person and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Family Video in October 2008.

Interview Details – -three part interview process; one with store manager, a skill test (basic arithmetic and customer situational questions), and one with the district manager
-if they call you, be super bubbly on the phone.. its part of the job.
-be as cheerful, polite, and happy as possible in the interview; Family Video prides themselves on great customer service so they want happy employees

Interview Question – Tell me about yourself.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – No real negotiation; they give you want they want to as far as pay goes. If you have a lot of customer service experience you might be able to get more than minimum wage, but as an Assistant Manager I only made $9.00/hr. The flexible hours and easy work is a major perk though; plus there's benefits to being full time and vacation time.

I applied in-person and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Family Video in April 2013.

Interview Details – The interview was open and conducted within the store in a secluded isle. The interviewer was very friendly, asked me basic questions (tell me about yourself, why do you want to work here?, what was your favourite job position so far and why?) The next day I was contacted to schedule a clerical test. I looked it up online and read some of the reviews here so I knew what to expect. The test was timed and covered topics like filing, comprehension, basic math (discount calculations mostly) and synonym finding. I got a call the same day saying that I have passed the test and the next step is the interview with the district manager. I was told that I'll be contacted within the next couple of days to arrange that. And that's what I'm waiting for :)

Interview Question – Take the square root of a 5 digit number without calculator.   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I preferred to work at the store location closest to my house (since they were hiring for all store locations), and I was told it'll be taken into consideration. as for the wage, it's basic for part-time positions so negotiations would be pointless.

I applied through other source and the process took 1 week - interviewed at Family Video.

Interview Details – The local family video was hosting an open interview session during a five hour gap. Through on some business clothes and went it. Sat down with who I suspect was the DM, he introduced himself just not his title (but wasnt the normal store manager). Asked questions mainly about personality who I was and what I had for future plans. That interview lasted a few minutes, went home.
A few days later I got a phone call asking me to come in to take a test, so i promptly went in and took it. The test was timed however it was SAT Styles, so you didnt need to finish all the questions in each part, they just graded what you did finish. I wasnt told my grade.
I got a call yet again, a day or so later and was asked to come in, filled out some paper work and was offered the job.

Interview Question – Why did you leave your last job and why do you think this company will be any different?   View Answer
