Interview

GE came to my university looking for Spring semester co-ops. I applied and received a call to schedule a phone interview. The HR manager interviewed me a couple weeks later. We Talked through my resume and she asked behavioral questions. Heard that I received an offer a month or two later.

    Interview

Your standard behavioral based interview. Little reaction from the interviewer. She read from a list of questions and took notes from my answers. She was in HR and NOT an engineer. Not looking for technical information. High emphasis on ability to communicate.

    Interview

Campus recruiting. They scheduled the interview the next day. They were very friendly and approachable. I did not expect to get an interview from them but it was a give away sort of deal. The process was easy. you set up a time where you are available the next day and you come in for a one on one interview.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at GE Aviation (Lexington, KY) in February 2014.

    Interview

My interviewer was really cool so I felt comfortable and relaxed. They used the STAR type format for the interview so most of the questions were talking about certain scenarios you've encountered in school and/or work. After the interview they sent a job offer a few weeks later which I accepted.

    Interview Questions

    • Tell me about a time you had to deal with an issue with a teammate/partner/coworker and how you overcame the issue.   Answer Question
    • Tell me about a time you had to over come differing opinions between parterns in a project.   Answer Question

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at GE Aviation (Houghton, MI) in March 2011.

    Interview

I had worked on test equipment in a past co-op and that was really my in on getting an interview. They have a minimum of a 3.0 gpa so be sure your grades are good or you will not be considered. You start out the interview just learning about the the company and how the Houghton UDC works. This lasts about an hour. Then there is a technical part of your interview where they have you do circuit problems, op-amps, and etc. (This is for EE's don't know what it is like for ME's) Make sure you are prepared for that. If you don't know just tell them as much as you can about the circuit. Study for it like you are going to be taking a test the next day. It is a pretty serious interview compared to other ones I have had. No questions on your personalty or what you do for fun. They get right down to what you know and what experience you have had.

    Interview Questions

    • What is the voltage across this resistor? What is the power dissipated?   1 Answer
    • Solve Op-Amps   1 Answer

    Negotiation

No negotiating. At least I didn't...

    Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 dayinterviewed at GE Aviation (Lynn, MA) in April 2007.

    Interview

The interview was arranged through my university and was held on campus. A number of representatives came from the company and each interviewed people individually. The interviewers were not actually there for their own departments, so the person you interview with is probably not someone you will work with. The interview was not very intense. The interviewer was dressed like they do for work at GE. No suit and tie, just business casual. He seemed more interested in industry experience (or at least understanding) rather than cheerleaders for the company. Standard behavioral-based questions were asked. The whole process was probably about 20 - 25 minutes.

    Interview Questions

    • Always a fine line to tread, but "Describe an experience in which you failed, and how did you deal with the situation?"   1 Answer
    • I was coming from another aerospace company, so they expected a full explanation as to why I had decided to work for the competition.   1 Answer

    Negotiation

GE, as a rule, does not negotiate at all for any position. Don't bother trying to get them to change salary or anything like that. The co-op job offer was a little strange. You don't interview for a particular position, just a job at the company. If they decide that they like you, they offer you a specific job in a department of their choosing. Take it or leave it.

    Interview

We sat in a room with 2 chairs and a desk. He welcomed me, told me the general 'way' the interview worked, and then we started. He asked easy/simple questions mostly how i acted in certain situations. It was over pretty quickly and he wasn't too intimidating at all.
