I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at Gannett.

    Interview Details

I had one phone interview and two interviews on site. The first team of interviewers did not ask many questions, and I found myself trying to 'lead' the interview. The second person who I interviewed with seemed as if I was wasting his time. It wasn't a pleasant experience.

    Interview Questions
    • Oddly enough, the first team of interviewers did not ask a lot of questions. It felt as if I had to guide them into the interview.   Answer Question

    Director of Data Governance Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in McLean, VA
    Application Details

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeksinterviewed at Gannett.

    Interview Details

The recruiter found me on social media and asked if I'd be interested in interviewing for the job. Started with the phone interview with the recruiter. He provided some basic information about the job and the company. I learned how big Gannett is. Then I had 2 more phone interviews - each with different VPs of finance. One VP was far more knowledgeable about this new role than the other. The 2nd VP helped me to understand the scale of the problem - and was impressed with the insightful questions that I asked. Showed that I had done this before. He was, however, concerned about the scale of the data governance project at my current company - which is about 7 or 8 times smaller than Gannett. He arranged for me to talk with their consultant - who had been there for 9 months working on the data governance project. When I talked to the consultant, about 1 week later, however, I can see that they weren't serious about persuing me further - due to the scale differences in the data governance project between Gannett and my current company. I never heard back from them.

    Interview Questions
    • Nothing unusual. They wanted to know about the scale of data governance programs that I've managed. So most of the questions were around that. One question (which I was prepared for) was about how I would go about starting this new program (data governance) at Gannett. It was a brand new program that they wanted to kick off.   View Answer

I had a three person panel interview. There were no real trick wuestions. I would say that they want
someone with experience working with Wide Orbit. It was not a very stressful interview. I am hoping to get a call bak or offer soon. I think the interview went well.

    Digital Sales Specialist Interview

    Application Details

I applied online. The process took 5 weeksinterviewed at Gannett in April 2014.

    Interview Details

Originally, the process seemed to going well. I applied for the position. The Director of Digital Sales reached out to me, we scheduled a phone interview. For the initial phone interview, she was "tied up" with a client and asked to reschedule it. I was accommodating and rescheduled it. She actually remembered and called me. It went well, and we scheduled a face to face interview. It went well. She introduced me to a Local Sales Manager, the Director of Sales and two Account Executives. I had another phone interview with someone located in New York. It seemed to go well. Then I waited, and waited. I reached to check the status of the position. I didn't hear back from anyone. I checked the website today, and learned that it was filled. My issue is not that I did not get the job, but when a person goes through as many hurdles as I did, it would be nice to at least be informed that a decision was made.

    Assistant to the Publisher Interview

I applied online – interviewed at Gannett in January 2014.

    Interview Details

I found the job posting on Indeed.com and immediately applied. I didn't think anything of it and then a couple weeks later, got an email from the publisher to schedule a phone interview. Phone interview was short and pretty easy. Just had to go over my resume. During the interview he told me he wanted to schedule an in person interview. It was for a week later. Went to the in-person and met with publisher and another employee. They went over the job details and the atmosphere of the office. They were both really nice and the interview seemed to go well. Unfortunately, they went internal for the position, even though they really liked me.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at Gannett in December 2013.

    Interview Details

I would say that the entire process was not out of the ordinary or unexpected. The very last interview was with the director of the department for which I would be hired. that person did not know or understand what was being spoken about. You would expect that the Director of a Digital department would under stand what lead gen is.

Phone interview with recruiter, who was extremely nice. Didn't seem to be much of an interview at all rather than a brief walk through of my resume followed by a description of the role and the two week training process. I was turned off by the low salary and the the process it would take to actually start "working"
