I applied through an employee referral and the process took 2 days - interviewed at General Motors in November 2010.

Interview Details – First, you are contacted by an HR rep who asks you about why you are searching for job and what salary you are making now and what you plan to make working for GM. Then I was asked in for an interview, where I met with 4 people, 2 at a time and the interview as all behavioral and very challenging. I was asked back again and had an interview with the director and all questions were traditional

Finance Manager TRACK Program Interview

Finance Manager TRACK Program

I applied through other source and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at General Motors.

Interview Details – This is an MBA recruiting program. I went to NSHMBA without any leads or contacts at GM but made a good enough impression to get a first round interview. I had two separate 30 minute interviews, one was behavioral based and the other was technical based. I was then flown to Detroit for a final round 'Super Day.' There were 4, 30 minute interviews where interviewers mixed behavioral, situational, and technical based questions. There was also a technical screen where you were given 90 minutes to read over a business case, build a forecast model, and write a memo about your findings. Your fifth 30 minute interview consisted of a presentation of your analysis along with other technical questions and critiques of your analysis. It was a long process.

Interview Questions

  • If GM were to pay a large one time special dividend, how would this impact our cost of debt?   View Answer
  • Can your cost of debt ever be greater than your cost of equity?   View Answer

Negotiation Details – I asked to gross up the signing bonus and receive the bonus in advance in return for cancelling two scheduled final round interviews. They said no. I talked to three other candidates that received offers that all tried to negotiate to no avail. They have an offer for you to either take or leave.

GM Dealer Sales Consultant Interview

GM Dealer Sales Consultant
Detroit, MI

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at General Motors in May 2013.

Interview Details – Applied online and received a phone call from from a talent acquisition representative within 48 hours. The phone interview was about 20 minutes long and consisted of basic questions about my resume, work experience and salary/benefit expectations. I received another phone call from the same rep. the next day and he scheduled a face to face interview in Detroit for the following week. First part was a 30 minute orientation about GM and it's benefits etc. Second part was broken down into 2 separate hour long interviews. Each interview was with 2 managers. Interview questions were in the Lominger format but some of the questions would digress into questions about my resume and work experience. Each interviewer would constantly stop the cadence of the interview to write down notes as I answered each question. Know your resume and be prepared with different situations to base your answers on to avoid sounding repetitive. They will press you to elaborate extensively on some portions of your answers just to see how you respond to unanticipated questions. Overall a positive experience, interviewing managers are very friendly.

Interview Question – Describe a time you employed rigorous logic to complete an assigned task?   Answer Question

Negotiation Details – It was a generous offer with great benefits. I did not negotiate as it was beyond my salary requirements.
