I met with GM during the career fair at my college. At that time I was told I had an interview the following week on campus. I was interviewed by one woman who began by telling me about the changes in the company. She then asked me questions of the star format.

There was a phone screening first, nothing technical. Then two interviews after that. Both in person interviews were mostly behavioral questions, pretty much "Tell me about a time when...". Both interviewers were very nice and answered any questions that I had. There were also a couple of recruiters there to cover basics about benefits/days off/etc...

The worst kind of recruiting team I have seen. I got called each time by a new person and they have no record of who I spoke with before. They send me meeting invitations with wrong time and with wrong job titles. I ended up missing an interview due to the mistakes made by the recruiter. Finally I sent an email to them stating that just based on the interview process, I am not interested in GM any more. The hiring manager that spoke to me before personally called me and assured me that if I reconsider GM, she herself will handle all the interview scheduling. And she did. I attended a technical interview after that. I was surprised that it turned out to be a behavior test than a technical interview. Two of the interviewers who talked to me one after another.. asked me the exact same questions. And even the 2 technical questions they asked are exactly the same. Surprisingly, their answers are not logical. When I opened a discussion about the answers and their reasoning about it, they did not follow through the conversation. Its almost like they have book of questions and answers.

I applied online – interviewed at General Motors.

The process was a joke and I don't know how this company finds good talent.

I applied online. A few days later a member of the Talent Acquisition team contacted me for a phone interview. I replied with my availability and didn't hear back for over a week. I followed up with them and heard back the next day to setup the phone interview. They also had me answer 5 questions via email and send back to them before the interview.

The day of the phone interview the recruiter sent me a Google invite 7 minutes before the interview. I accepted and the time for the interview came and went. GM was over 10 minutes late in calling me. The recruiter didn't apologize or even recognize they called late. They asked me two questions, "Describe Yourself" and "Why do you want to work for GM?". I talked for about 10 minutes and then the recruiter said that was it. What? There was no follow up from them at all. No feedback. I tried to ask questions about the position and they said they can't answer those and I would have to ask the hiring manager.

The next day I received an automated email that said GM does not have a specific opportunity for me at this time.

My resume was a great fit for this position. I didn't even have a chance to speak with someone with technical expertise who could accurately evaluate my skills.

Company visited university and found my resume. Emailed me the night before for a morning interview. Then had another interview the next day. Total of two interviews, and both were done on campus. Predominantly behavioral. Don't know yet if I received the job, so tentatively saying no. Will update once they get back to me.

Received interview after speaking to recruiters at Career Fair. Fairly straightforward as they are recruiting heavily from my college. Met at the faculty club where all rooms were being used by GM for interviews. I was told that they were impressed with the communication and technical skills but because they were primarily looking for Juniors, I stood a slim chance.

2 back to back interviews, approx 40 min each, followed by a case test sent during the weekend to be completed in 4 hours. Interviews were a good mix of behavioral and technical questions. The case was very technical and asked you to analyze a potential JV in China for a new line of cars.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4+ monthsinterviewed at General Motors in November 2014.

    Interview Details

I was referred by an employee, but I still had to apply online.

5 days later they wanted to set up a phone screen. The standard questions like why GM, why this role, willingness to relocate, salary expectation, brief overview of internships/coursework.

3 weeks later I was notified of an hour long video interview with 2 of the HR managers.

At the interview they told me this role was for midlevel career people, but went ahead and did the interview anyway. Bit confusing as the posting had also included entry level.

Both alternated in asking questions and wanted to see me demonstrate the STAR method, what I learnt and how I have used that knowledge in another experience. Some of the questions were tough to answer since I didn't have much experience out of school.

There were around 10 questions in total, which took up 90 minutes, more than the allotted hour. The rest of the time I got to ask questions. The interview actually lasted 2 hours and my eyes were exhausted staring at the screen for so long. I had to follow up with them a month later; they said I'll be referred to a graduate-level position.

2 months later I'm invited to another 2 hour video interview for the SAME POSITION, but with different people. Apparently the first interviewers didn't put me in the system that indicates I've gone through this stage. It was more of the same questions and they'll notify me in 'a couple of weeks'. Highly inefficient for such a big company.
