Retail Sales Specialist Interview

Retail Sales Specialist
Akron, OH

The process took 2 months - interviewed at Goodyear in June 2010.

Interview Details – Interview process was very demanding and required a lot of work but they keep you very well informed. Started with multiple personality tests and very thorough background checks.Had multiple phone interviews and was then flown to Akron for a panel and multiple 1:1s. Everyone was great. Interviews were tough. They were very upfront with everything. The HR director asked the dreaded "what do you feel is your greatest weakness?" question. I was told that this was what kept me from getting the position. I said that I could be cocky but had realized it and was working on it. The people who were offered the position seemed to lean towards saying they had organization issues.

Development Engineer Interview

Development Engineer
Hebron, OH

I applied through college or university and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at Goodyear in March 2014.

Interview Details – This was a great site with info for my interview, so I should share.
Applied online (1.5hrs) via a link from college.
3.5hrs later I got an email to take a proctored online test (1.5hrs).
Took test on Friday morning, got a call first thing Monday, scheduled a 3person phone interview for that afternoon.
Phone interview: LOTS of behavioral questions, plus the 2minute sell-yourself speech. (Both of which I failed as bad as the test I took) BE PREPARED, know your resume and be ready to explain it to them in detail without being asked any side questions!
Amazingly, for failling everything so far I was invited to s 5hr "meet&greet" the following monday.
Meet & Greet:
there we 6 applicants, but only 4 showed up. DO NOT Wear a suit jacket, it would be overkill. I was the only person with a tie besides a GY engineer. Be ready for a full on psych observation from 16-20 people. 1/4 HR, 1/4 GY Senior Engineers, 1/4 Team you will be working with, 1/4 unknown.
2 45minute interviews, both just me with an HR and with GY top Engineer, so a 2on1.
The rest of the time was non-stop questions. BE SO READY FOR MANY BEHAVIORAL QUESTIONS!!!!!! Bring a pen & pad.
I also failed this horribly. Never been asked so many behavioral questions in my life combined!

Great people! Would have been a great job in Hebron Ohio at the new R&D plant.
The pay was never given.

Interview Question – To many to think! Be ready for non-stop "tell us about a time when...." If you stall they note, it's hard.   View Answer

Software Development Analyst Interview

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Goodyear in February 2014.

Interview Details – Had a 20 minute phone interview with company recruiter. They called me back about a week later to set up an in person interview. The in person interview went as follows:
1) 30 minutes talking with department director and IT manager
2) 45 minutes talking with IT manager and and a senior developer - The questions were a combination of technical and behavioral
3) 1 hour being grilled by three more developers with all sorts of technical questions
4) 1.5 hours to complete a 6 or 7 page written "test" that the developers had put together

Interview Question – It was just the shear number of questions from many different people. This was a 3 hour long interview with questions from start to finish. It was tiring and seemed like way overkill.   Answer Question

I applied online and the process took 4 weeks - interviewed at Goodyear in May 2012.

Interview Details – Process began with a HR phone interview. Then an on-line personality assessment. Phone Interview with the hiring manager followed by an on-site interview in Akron OH. This was a combination of one-on-one sessions, a group session, lunch, a formal presentation of a significant accomplishment, and a closing wrap-up. Culture was collaborative and friendly. Overall a great experience.

Innovation Advisor Interview

I applied online and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at Goodyear in December 2012.

Interview Details – I applied online, and the first hurdle is passing through their recruitment agency, The RightThing. In my case, the outside firm declined me but an actual Goodyear HR recruiter contacted me on LInkedIn and got me back into the process. I do not know how to "pass" the screen test from their outside agency, but from reading here and elsewhere it seems to be almost luck. They are not very good at their job nor do they understand the positions.

There was a phone interview followed by an online video interview with the hiring manager. Very good interview and meaningful questions related to the job. Nothing too surprising.

I was invited to a final onsite interview. This was a 3 - 4 hour process and included a lunch interview. My first interviewer was an HR representative. This person was very nice, but perpetuated the stereotype of a worthless HR recruiter. Stock meaningless questions that seemed to come from a negative point of view, e.g. tell me about a weakness (then another one), a time you failed, a struggle, etc. They wanted all of my salary history, but in turn would not volunteer any compensation information. In fact, all of the interviewers followed some sort of corporate guide in asking questions. I then spoke with two potential colleagues. Nice people, corporate questions. This was followed by a one-on-one with another individual and finally a one-on-one with the hiring manager. This included an interview over lunch. His questions deviated from the stock corporate framework and were more insightful and related to the position. My final interview was with a senior VP executive. Nice guy, good questions and nothing too odd.

I was told I would hear back in a couple of weeks, at the end of which I reached out to corporate and their agency. Did not hear back for several more weeks and eventually found out they passed on me. More on that later.

The Good:
Everybody was very nice and personable. They seemed to be genuinely good people.

The Bad:
Terrible HR competency, both internal to Goodyear and external agency. A search for cliche and pointless interview questions would give a good idea of their HR interview approach. Take HR out of the equation, and it would have been better. Nice people, just terrible systems.

The Ugly:
Unprofessional incompetence. While I was very disappointed in not receiving an offer, I'm a grown adult and am OK with a rejection. What upset me was the lack of communication. I interviewed for a mid-senior level position. I was expecting a phone call, which I did not get. At the minimum I would have expected an email. I did not even get that. I received zero communication from them regarding my status. No phone call, no personalized email, no generic thanks-but-no-thanks email. I found out by logging into my online candidate account online.

An absolutely terrible experience. I will no longer ever purchase a product from Goodyear based on their blatant unprofessional lack of communicating their decision. Sort of ironic in that part of the position dealt with the customer experience.

Executive Legal Secretary Interview

Executive Legal Secretary
Akron, OH

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Goodyear in April 2011.

Interview Details – After submitting resume and they are interested, there is a telephone interview based on "behavioral pattern interviewing". If you pass that level, you will be called in for an in-person interview with multiple panels, including attorneys, executive administrators, and HR personnel.

Interview Question – All the behavioral pattern interviewing questions are grueling and strenuous. For example, "Tell us about an example where you made a mistake at your job. What did you do? What was the outcome?"   Answer Question

Business Center Manager Interview

Business Center Manager

I applied through a recruiter and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at Goodyear in January 2011.

Interview Details – I was contacted by a recruiter and asked if I was interested in a Business Center Manager position within one of a possible three manufacturing facilities. After about a week, I received an email to complete an online assessment. Almost immediately after the assessment, I received another email with a link to schedule a phone screen. The phone screen was about a week later and it was conducted by a 3rd party company (not Goodyear). The phone screen was pretty awkward because it was only 30 minutes but they wasted the first 10 minutes asking information that was already on your resume - then they asked about 9 additional questions - the person on the other end typed in information as you spoke and there was very little two-way dialogue. My interview went 10 minutes over. The questions were typical...why are you the best person for the job? Describe a technical process in a non-technical way. Tell me about a time you say someone violate a safety policy. ... About a week went by and they sent another email to stay tuned for further updates, and then finally after another week, I received a rejection email.
