Internship Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied online and interviewed at GrubHub Seamless.

Interview Details – Starting process was different than what I have experienced before. I was actually emailed a list of questions to respond and send back - usually this would be over the phone.

Interview Question – All questions would be something expected normally from these types of interviews   Answer Question

User Experience Research Intern Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied online and the process took 5 weeks - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in September 2013.

Interview Details – Applied online. Recruiter reached out via email with some initial background questions and a research exercise. I completed the research exercise the same day and 10 days later heard back to schedule a phone interview with a member of the UX team. Phone interview went well, no unexpected questions, and the interviewer was very nice and knowledgeable. Didn't hear anything for a couple weeks, and then received another email asking to schedule another Skype interview with the UX research team. Unfortunately at this time my circumstances changed and I had to withdraw my application from consideration. Overall, my experience was very positive, and everyone I interacted with at GrubHub was very friendly.

Interview Question – What is the most interesting method you've used to recruit research participants? Who were you looking for and how did you find this method useful?   Answer Question

IT Interview

I applied online and the process took 1+ week - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in April 2013.

Interview Details – The interview process was as expected. They brought me in for the day, lunch with the prospective team, interviews with various groups and teams. The ask me to perform a "role play" scenario with the team which just seemed odd. I left thinking "..what were they searching for?"

Interview Question – Most of the interview was expected and good, but the role playing was just strange. This left more questions than answers. The people are very nice, but glad I read these reviews online. From what I hear the pay is not good and the employees worry about losing their jobs once the takeover happens.   View Answer

Software Developer Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied through a recruiter - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in April 2013.

Interview Details – The interview consisted of multiple phases. In one two employees presented me with a Monopoly game and proceeded to enumerate the many rules. They then asked me to design an appropriate object model for the game. They critiqued my work and asked me to explain/defend certain design choices. In another phase I was tasked with completing a coding exercise with two developers looking on.

Interview Question – The design portion was tricky because they clearly had a design in mind - and in case like me you haven't played Monopoly since childhood - there are a vast number of rules and options here. Were I designing this professionally, I certainly would have been allowed more time to consider the design, or had coworkers working with me instead of critiquing as I went.   Answer Question

Marketing Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied online and interviewed at GrubHub Seamless.

Interview Details – They wanted free consulting: The salary band for the position I was interviewing for was lower than my asking salary. With that said, I was brought in to interview with a Director who spent 2 hours asking me extremely detailed questions about what I'd do with the program.

Interview Question – I was actually asked to solution marketing problems (in serious detail) in the interview. I'm an industry expert, clearly called in for a freebie.   Answer Question

Data Analysis Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Chicago, IL

I applied through an employee referral and the process took 5 days - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in September 2012.

Interview Details – The turnaround time from contact to interview and decision was very quick. I had a 1/2 hour interview with my potential supervisor, then was asked to come in for an in-person interview the next day that required I sit in a room and what felt like random people came in and out. I wasn't ever given an org chart, or any sort of guidance as to how the people I was talking to fit into the overall structure. I found the atmosphere casual, as to be expected in a tech company, but so casual as to be unprofessional.

Interview Question – I was very surprised to be asked to fill out a paper application that included Driver's License and other personal information at my initial interview.   Answer Question

Marketing Position Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Chicago, IL

I applied online and the process took 2 weeks - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in November 2011.

Interview Details – HR contact phone interview one day, followed by Marketing contact phone interview, followed by in-person interview with 2 people in marketing.

Coming from a more structured environment, the interview at the GrubHub offices was a little rocky. I was required to fill out another form on a clipboard that seemed more situated for the customer service positions that they fill, not marketing. I had an interview in an odd clear open room with completely exposed ceilings where you could hear everything I was saying and I could hear and see everything going on just 2 feet away - slightly distracting.

The two marketing women that I met were disorganized and spoke poorly about the HR contact that set up the interview with me, in front of me. That left a poor taste in my mouth.

Interview Question – Tell us your social media strategy and how you'll grow our fans to a very high quantity in a very short amount of time.   View Answer

Online Sales Interview

Online Sales
Chicago, IL

I applied online and the process took 4+ weeks - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in May 2012.

Interview Details – I applied online through Indeed.com. A week later I was contacted by HR via phone to set up an initial phone screening. After that was done, they called to congratulate me for earning a phone interview (30 minutes). After that, I was contacted and congratulated for making it to a live interview. It lasted 3 hours and consisted of meeting with four different managers. They contacted me two weeks later and said they wanted someone with more experience. Woof.

Interview Question – "If people say "What's in it for me?" to sign on with GrubHub, what will you tell them?"   Answer Question

Inside Sales Executive Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate
Chicago, IL

I applied through other source and the process took 1 week - interviewed at GrubHub Seamless in July 2012.

Interview Details – The initial screening process was a brief 15 minute phone call with one of the managers of online sales. The manager did not have very many questions and seemed to be focused almost exclusively on my prior experience in inside sales within a structured environment.

The next step in the process was an in-person interview at Grubhub headquarters where I spoke with 2 different online sales managers for about 25 minutes (each separately). The interviewers were casual and treated the interview more like a conversation.

Interview Question – They asked me to give them an example of the type of cold calling script I had worked off of in the past. What type of pitch did I make and what communication style did I employ?   Answer Question
