Field Engineer - Wireline Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate

I applied through college or university and the process took 3 months - interviewed at Halliburton.

Interview Details – As you may have read already from other comments, the two day interview process is very laid back. Meet-and-greet, presentation, and dinner on the first day and field or shop visit, lunch, and out-interview on the second day. What I came to find out from the region I went for (Northeast) is that they do almost everything the same I expected from reading glassdoor comments about field engineer interview process, but the out-interview a bit different. It was 45-60 minutes long instead of the 15 minutes I thought it would be. The interviewer made all the same behavioral questions from the first interview I had on campus, he asked technical questions related to my field of engineering and also about the presentations and shop visit, and gave me a short written exam with electrical and mechanical problems to solve with out a calculator. The technical questions were very basic (i.e. difference between pump and motor, standard household voltage/freq, what does bentonite clay do when drilling). The written exam had a problem of solving for total resistance of a simple circuit, one of hydrostatic pressure, one of step-up transformers, and one wireline problem about calculating the voltage needed to power a tool down the hole at certain distance.

Field Engineer - Wireline Interview

Field Engineer - Wireline
Oklahoma City, OK

I applied through college or university and the process took 3 days - interviewed at Halliburton.

Interview Details – I had an on-campus interview for Halliburtons' field engineer position, and had a second follow-up in Oklahoma City for Wireline and Perforating.

The second interview was pretty standard--there were about 7 of us, and we spent a day touring the Halliburton offices and drove out to a distribution center. The actual interview process was pretty typical, although one question was in regards to engineering, albeit an easy one.

I applied through college or university and interviewed at Halliburton.

Interview Details – Had first interview on campus at university career center. This was fairly serious, consisted of hardball behavioral questions along with casual conversation. Then was invited for a two day site visit which basically the entire time was an interview. Got to know employees and a hiring manager. Took seven of us out to eat. Paid for lodging, food, and travel to the location. Was given an offer, and accepted.

Interview Question – Think about your past experiences in employment, and any difficulties associated with satisfying customers needs.   Answer Question

I applied through college or university and the process took a day - interviewed at Halliburton in November 2010.

Interview Details – Haliburton came to our school. Did a 1 on 1 interview. Asked, how to keep a customer happy?. Pretty easy. They then paid for a plane ticket to Denver, and spent the day showing us the wireline facility there and trying to convince us not to take the job. Then had a 1 on 2 interview that lasted 20 minutes. They asked have you ever McGuivered anything and why are manhole covers round...easy stuff. Asked a little about leadership, and if you mind working crazy hours. I got back 2 days ago and am sure they will make an offer. They liked my military experience more than my degree or grades.

Interview Question – Have you ever McGuivered anything? You know the guy from the tv series that could make a bomb out of a matchbook, electrical tape, and a stick of gum.   View Answer
