    Applications Engineer Interview

    Application Details

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3+ monthsinterviewed at Harris in September 2014.

    Interview Details

The in person interview was an all day affair.
It started at 0830, meet the recruiter and getting an access badge, followed up with my first interview with a Lead Engineer.
-- This interview was mostly technical in nature
2nd interview was with an Application Engineer
-- Again this interview was technical and included a tour of the campus.
After the tour I met up with a Functional Manager
-- This interview focused on professional and interpersonal skills
The next interview was with an Operations Manager
-- The interview was over lunch and covered technical and professional skills
After lunch I meet up with a person from HR
-- We discussed benefits and career progression
The last interview ended at 1400 hours and was with an Applications Engineer from another division
-- again, another technical driven interview
Over all I liked the thoroughness of the process, but it wore me out.

I applied through a recruiter – interviewed at Harris.

Very focused and relevant. There were about 5 interviewers with varying levels of expertise. Some knew less than the interviewee. Most interviewers wanted to make sure there was a good attitude and fit - that is a good thing.

The interview process was all done remotely over the phone. All communication was very prompt and professional. The questions asked gave the hiring manager a good feel of how well I knew the technology used. The hiring manager answered all of the questions I had and was friendly.

    Senior Electrical Engineer Interview

I applied online. The process took 3+ monthsinterviewed at Harris in July 2014.

    Interview Details

Interview spanned from 10AM until about 3PM. First met briefly with the hiring manager and discussed the job description and my background. Then I presented my vitae to a panel of about a dozen engineers. The tone of panel was good and questions allowed me to expand on my experience.

Afterward, met with a series of individual interviewers. The second interview was over lunch in the company cafeteria. Sessions lasted over half an hour each. Most questions were technical in nature of easy to moderate difficulty. One interviewer asked only behavioral interview questions. One of the senior engineers I met with was very knowledgeable and experienced but was not good at interviewing.

The last two persons I met with were security and HR. Those two were mostly a waste of time, but it was good to meet them in the case that I did accept an offer.

Many of the interviewers asked all of the taboo personal questions about family. This may have been just friendly but it wasted interview time and showed poor ethics for a company of its size and background. I got the vibe from one senior manager that he knew better.

It only took a week to get a response after the interview.

Got an interview call through career fair. Interviewed for the first round involving questions in C++ and C. Basic questions asked which were easy. Concentrated more on semaphores, mutexes, multi-threading programming and interrupts. Started with questions on resume and asked few programming questions.

Pretty simple process. After I applied I received a call to do a phone interview. The phone interview lasted for about twenty minutes or so and was pretty basic. About a week after that I got another call to do an in person interview which was a whole day affair.

    Systems Integration/Test Engineer Interview

I applied through college or university. The process took 2+ monthsinterviewed at Harris in December 2013.

    Interview Details

I first met with a Harris recruiter from Mechanical Engineering dept at a College Career Fair in early October and had an initial screening interview. Several weeks later, I got a phone call out of the blue asking for a phone interview on the spot. I interviewed with about 4 engineers from the Systems Integration & Test department, for about an hour. It was easy and laid-back, and the guys seemed to like to talk a lot. Asked several questions like your favorite class, talk about senior design projects, why do you want to do systems integration, etc. I got a call a couple weeks later to come in for a site interview on December 17th.
It was a half-day ordeal, with some miscommunication because there were different schedules between mine and some of the interviewers. It started with a breakdown of the company's benefits. Then spoke with security for 10 mins. Talked with engineering manager for 10 minutes, but he seemed a little scatter-brained and not too interested in spending too much time talking with me.Then a panel of 4 engineers in the department for an hour. They all showed up at different times, but it was easy and laid back. Similar questions to phone interview, and we talked about the area too. Then went to lunch with an engineer, who was nice and gave me a short tour of campus at the end, since the engineering manager wasn't back yet. Talked to HR last. I waited until after the holiday break to hear back. I was surprised to get a no since they went through so much. I didn't apply for a specific job, rather the department, so I'm not sure how they decide how many new grads to hire.

I applied through college or university. The process took 4+ weeksinterviewed at Harris in November 2013.

    Interview Details

I attended a career fair at my school and my resume was forwarded to the different departments in the company. I received an email about doing a phone screening a couple months later which led to a follow up interview at the headquarters in Melbourne FL. The interview lasted from about 8:00 to 3:30 with 5 different staff members. The questions were straight forward and about what I expected.

    Interview Questions
    • Very unusual question by the last interviewer.

How many musical notes are played on a radio station in 24 hours?

Horrible interview process. I went to Rochester to interview for a position supposedly in Chelmsford, MA. I have no idea how the interview went because I can't get any response for the company HR department which is to tally unprofessional.

Met at job fair, recruiters were very friendly. I felt like I got along with them. After we met, I interviewed that week. Then a couple of weeks went by until I heard the news that I was invited to corporate headquarters. Had multiple rounds there. Their facilities are state of the art, and growing. Seems like a good place to be if you like Melbourne, FL
