    Home Delivery Coworker Interview

    Anonymous Employee in Carson, CA
    No Offer
    Negative Experience
    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 2+ weeksinterviewed at IKEA (Carson, CA) in May 2015.

    Interview

Applied on-line and received a call a week later from a recruiter. She asked me several behavioral questions involving my previous job experience. The recruiter liked me and gave me a date for an interview. The recruiter emailed me my appointment information and the email said that the hiring manager would provide a copy of my application.

I was interviewed by two managers. I was asked if I brought a copy of my application. I replied the recruiter's email said that they were to provide a copy. I showed them the email but the two hiring managers did not seem to believe me. They said HR always forgets to email a copy to interviewees.

I was asked more behavioral questions. One question asked if "I enjoyed not working?" I responded that I did not and one of the hiring managers replied that even he did not like to show up to work at times and would rather be playing his xbox FIFA game.

Once the interview was over I was asked to fill out a paper application because I did not bring a copy with me.

    Application

I applied online – interviewed at IKEA.

    Interview

I first applied for the Carts Coworker position online when I saw the listing posted. I heard back from them soon about an interview over the phone. After a quick and easy phone interview of about 15 minutes I received an email inquiring about an in-person interview. That was the first interview that was in-person and it took about an hour. I was with another candidate and we were required to fill out a similar application form to the one online. After we were engaged in a fun and short exercise where the candidates learned and talked about each other. The managers then took us separately and interviewed us asking some questions. A couple weeks later a background check was done and that's when they called for a second in-person interview. In my case I was recommended for the cashier position instead of the carts position. The second interview interview was to finish up some additional questions as well as submit a drug test and fill out an official hour sheet. Overall the interview process took a while (about a month or so), but it was pretty smooth and not the most difficult.

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at IKEA (Charlotte, NC) in February 2015.

    Interview

I applied online and received a call about a week later and had a phone interview. At the end of the interview, I was able to schedule the on-site face-to-face interview. Once there, I interviewed with the person who was in charge of the department, and it took roughly an hour (knew that was how long it was scheduled to take before arriving). At the end of the onsite interview, the manager informed me of what the next steps would be regardless of if I was selected to move forward or not.

    Interview

They have certain questions that they have to ask in the interview that are already pre worded. When I was hired there was no technical portion, but when I was interviewing candidates for my position I added a technical portion of the interview in order to select the right kind of candidates.

    Interview Questions

    • Describe a challenge you had at work and explain how you dealt with it.   Answer Question

    Negotiation

They let me know about normal compensation for the role, asked if I was looking at other places and if I had any offers on the table (always say yes to this). Negotiated a little more than the average that this position makes but it was still very low comparitively.

    Interview

About a week after I applied online I received an email requesting me to call for a phone interview. A week after the phone interview I received an email letting me know when the store was having their next hiring event. At the hiring event I completed a paper application and had to creatively "sell/market" an item. I was at the hiring event for approx 5 hours.

    Recovery (As-Is Area) Coworker-HL3 Interview

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ weekinterviewed at IKEA (East Palo Alto, CA) in May 2014.

    Interview

Overall process is very negative and confusing. I applied online and received an Email with instructions to attend the IKEA coworker event. On the day of the event I only find out my name was not even on the list. They told me the person who emailed me is only doing screening online and does not even work in IKEA, so I had no person to talk to about my situation.
Then I was greeted by a person who told me he's neither a recovery manager or sales manager, since both of them are too busy interviewing other people. He told me he doesn't usually do the interviews, but since they both are busy, he would interview me on that day.

So, I talked to him, and from the very first sentence I can immediately feel that the guy does not trust my words at all. I don't know why and how should I react, so I just tried to be myself. I can feel that "this guy is BS'ing" facial expression constantly from the interviewer throughout the whole conversation, even though he tried to pretend he's actually listening to me. He does not ask about IKEA history at all.

the guy is trying to pretend that he does value you and he just tried to kick you out as soon as the interview is done, and still tries to put on his mask of excitement of seeing you for interview and professionally.

Few days later, I had the opportunity to speak with other coworkers and only find out that the job descriptions posted online only gives out a very vague and misleading tasks of what a recover coworker should do, and what I expected to do for the job is very different.

The overall experience is very disappointing to me, and the person who interviewed me was unprofessional. The IKEA Concept and IKEA Group values are theoretically very good, but they fail to be realized within the company management

    Application

I applied online – interviewed at IKEA.

    Interview

I filled out the online application and received an email not long after telling me that they were interested in my application and to call for an interview. I called the same day and spoke with a friendly woman who asked me only a few questions. The interview took only five minutes, and she told me that she would forward my information on to the hiring manager who would call me within 5-7 days to set up an in-person interview. After a week, I hadn't heard anything, so I called the woman I originally spoke with to ask about the status of my application. After unsuccessfully attempting to reach her several times, I eventually resorted to emailing her. She eventually emailed me back and gave me the phone number for Human Resources. I tried calling them, but the phone would just kept ringing and I never even reached an answering machine. I am still waiting to hear back, but after several months of not receiving a phone call or email, it is safe to assume that I did not get the job.

    Interview

Applied the day it was posted online and received and email 4 days later saying they were interested in me and I would be receiving a phone interview. I missed the call when the interviewer called and called back and got her voice mail. She would be out of the office until Tuesday and return her messages then. No call back Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday and I kept trying to call her back and always got voicemail. Finally I called and got the interviewer late on Thursday. Had a 15 minute interview and she said I was perfect for Ikea. Told me the salary and weekend requirement and said I would be getting a call back from the manager no later than Wednesday. That was two weeks ago and I have never received a call back or email from them.

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeksinterviewed at IKEA (Woodbridge, VA) in January 2013.

    Interview

I first received a phone interview, this lasted for about 17-23 minutes. It all depends on how talkative you are.
The generic conventional questions such as: Why Ikea? Weakness? Strengths? Do you prefer to work independently or in a group?

Apparently they had suspended hiring even though I was told I'd get a call the following week.. I received an email and call in January.

    One in person interview.
A week later another in person interview.
Called in separately to fill paperwork.
Called in separately for a drug test, and finally hiring papers!

Can be lengthy process, unless you're applying before summer or winter holidays.

    Interview Questions

    • Have you ever made a mistake?   1 Answer

    Negotiation

There was not any negotiation, they had a pre-printed paper from HR that said $9.50
