Very good, very honest and thorough. There is a teach back session involved where you technical and teaching skills are assessed. Usually done the same day as the interview. The faculty are very friendly, professional and direct. They made clear potential difficulties with the job to ensure you know what to expect. However hours and non-class duties where not disclosed until work began.

I applied online – interviewed at ITT Technical Institute.

    Interview Details

I was called at 7:38pm for a phone interview which ended at little after 8:30pm. The face to face interview was average with behavioral based questions regarding various work situations. Afterwards, We discussed my big plans for Thanksgiving weekend as filler chatter. I was asked to complete background check and invited back for an interview with campus president the week after since it was a holiday. I was later sent an email asked to come in the day after thxgiving. (After they were well aware I would be unavaible and had family plans as per the discussion) and then to return on that Saturday. There were emails that kept saying urgent and asap, need to get you in here. Although I am flattered that they wanted to hire me I was completely turned off by the lack of respect for work life balance. If this is the interview process what would it be like if I were an employee? I decided not to move forward. I've work for many companies that are productive I'm willing to work evening and weekend hours but this was BlATENT. Upon further research I saw the BBB accreditation revoked as well a cfpb pending lawsuit and other unethical issues. I cannot work for a company that operates like that.

Pending lawsuits CFPB, no BBB accreditation, bad student reviews, no respect for work life balance, office environment not even normal size cube, there were seats next to each other 3x3 no half walls, that is uncomfortable

Called in to interview and was taken on tour of school. Introduced to the staff and felt welcome. Not much training for the position and often management doesn't know much about anything.

I applied online. The process took a weekinterviewed at ITT Technical Institute.

    Interview Details

Applied online. Received a call about 5 days later with a brief phone interview with basic questions such as: What interested you about this position? What was your start and end salary of your last job? What would your minimum required salary would be? Etc. Was then asked to come in for an interview the next day. That interview consisted of about 20 situational questions such as: "Describe a time you had to deal with a disgruntled customer/what did you do to solve the problem." Most questions were "Describe a time when". Interviewer (and supervisor to this position) was looking out the window half the time while both asking questions and listening to answers- not engaged or welcoming. I asked follow up questions that seemed to be unexpected and a little unwelcome such as, "What have people in this position gone on to do- is there a healthy internal promotion plan or did they leave to go work elsewhere." Answer: left to work elsewhere and retired. Not a good sign. Asked what a day's work looked like. Answer: 90% phone work. Was told they weren't technically "cold calling", but later was informed that they do. At least two nights a week required until 9pm and every other Saturday (holidays included). Was shown the office and it is a call center with tiny half-cubicles with 12 others in small space all wearing headphones making repeat phone calls. Was told by employee who gave me a tour that, other than himself, people don't stick around very long in that position.

Was scheduled to come back in for a follow up interview with the director but decided to cancel after seeing how the first interview revealed that the job description was a little misleading.

Based on different Sales and HR related questions given by the Director of Recruitment and the Director of the campus. The interviews were more based on how you carried your self in an admissions environment then, what experience you had. An example is the director of recruitment asked how I would sale a student on our school, and I said the value of education is ever giving, the only debt that you can see that adds personal value to you as an individual.

I applied online. The process took 3 weeksinterviewed at ITT Technical Institute.

    Interview Details

Interview was typical. First portion was a screening company asking a set of questions online; second part was in person interview, including a short "demonstrate teach."

The curriculum for each class is pre-set and includes PPs, handouts, and graded activities for each chapter. The grade book is set to record each assignment from the syllabus, so you have no opportunity to pick and choose topics / assignments according to class composition. It is often very hard to present the certain material to the wide range of academic levels and abilities within the student body. Some students can barely read, some feel the assignments are too easy and get frustrated that they are required to complete such primary work. Since you, the instructor, is evaluated on attendance, you must find a way to make sure each student finds value in coming to class each week.

Peer tutoring is not readily accepted by many of the the advanced students because they feel they are not advancing their knowledge. Sometimes peer teaching reinforces learning for the advanced students, but in many cases I have found the academic divide too great and shared their frustration. My solution to the problem has been to create enrichment activities with enough direction for the more advanced students that would not distract me from the teaching and helping those students working on the required assignments by the other students.

I often find myself walking the fine line of using classroom management and human psychology to keep the class feeling united.

Being an adjunct means that you are only there for your class time and that limits your opportunity of meeting other staff members. It can provide a sense of freedom, but it can also contribute to obstacles in collaboration with fellow colleagues and support staff.

Finally, being an adjunct means you never know whether you are teaching a class until a few days before the quarter begins. In addition, the Department Chairs have recently been required to increase their teaching loads and that has reduced the number of adjunct jobs.

Given the uncertainty of getting a class for the term and low pay of $24-28 an hour (excluding time for preparation / creation of special assignments / grading, copying handouts [copier always breaking down], making weekly phone calls to each absent student, completing 2 mandatory online classes for continuing education each term and attending at least 2 faculty meetings per quarter), I would recommend this job as a hobby or an outlet for community service, not as a money maker.
